Oh wow ! Finally got a battle scar! It’s like a superficial scratch on the top coat.I can see the shiny metal underneath. I have no idea how I got it as it’s the bottom part of the Watch and is very unlikely to have received a nick. Must have occurred when I changed the bands.
Now that I finally have the scar I can take it easy and stop being overly cautious.
I am not even sure I can call these scratches . They are similar to patina on platinum.

Did you try taking a wet Terry cloth and buff that out gently?

Dear god!

That happened just by changing the bands, surely it can't mark that easily? :(

This honestly looks like some of the plastic band material on the watch.. buff it off?

To be honest I will leave that for now. It is not looking as awe full as in the pic I posted. I am sure I will gather few more. It’s like patina on my ring.

I am not really sure how this happened to be honest. Only thing I can imagine is during strap change .
But again I reiterate- each scenario is different and each person’s usage is different.
Please don’t let my comments shun you off from the ultra .
It’s truly the best Apple Watch ever created. I fell in love with it the moment I wore it.
You would have to try it out.pics don’t do justice .
I am sure you will fall in love with it.
Get apple care+ for peace of mind.

Good point actually, I had the watch on trail loop initially and that has metal connectors.

And this potential problem is not Ultra-specific, of course. The space black Milanaise band for example is infamous for scratching all Watches, even the DLC coated steel/titanium ones.

Well as far as the alum model goes, I always have paid for the SS because of the better glass, not necessarily the case metal. I refuse to put the watch in a case or have screen protectors.

That photo above^^^^ I bet you could get that tiny blemish out with a microfiber towel, and some fine cut automotive compound in 30 seconds.

Oh yes, seems like the bead blasted finish is smoothed rather than a scratch.
Will be interesting to see a well patinated (had to Google the adjective of patina) the Ultra in the future.

I found this online

I quit worrying about scratches on my Apple Watch long ago when I discovered how quickly they depreciate in value, scratches or no scratches.

This is a good point. I previously felt 5 years was a reasonable expected life of AW (considering software support, battery, superseded features, etc), but after getting severe OLED burn-in on my S5 after 3 years, I now think 5 years is optimistic, and figure I will either need or want to replace in 3 or maybe 4 years.
Sure, there are people still using older AWs, but I wouldn’t count on it. It is pretty much a disposable product, unlike traditional watches.

Apple always leaves it up to the 3rd party manufacturers to solve these problems for users that want extra protection otherwise the ultra is tough enough and build quality is very high. I have nothing to do with this link I’m just showing the OP a solution to his negative.

Look at this link here…..

I guess if one wants to save the finish for the next owner, this would work.
It basically means that one never gets to see the finish that one is trying to keep pristine. Or one takes it off occasionally to admire its pristineness?

I agree! This would be like the iPhone.
You see the phone in all its glory, buy it but case it the next minute.

I have used a few cases mainly to make the watch look bigger, no need with the Ultra lol

Wow that is a big case.
But having said that the ultra’s size shouldn’t come as a surprise as most of us did try these cases on previous Apple Watches at some point or the other, which brought them close to the size of ultra anyway.
