I use a fiberglass pen from Amazon on the bezel edges if I get a scratch and it works great. Might be more challenging on the bead blasted body but I think some people have had some success I thought I read somewhere. Only 8-9 more months until the new model comes out anyway. I don't care about it much. If I get $550 for it vs $600 because it has a few scratches I don't care. Its designed to be a beater. I would consider a DLC TI version or even ceramic this fall if not priced to crazy.

Idk what ya'll are doing with your watches but I have had mine since launch day and I can't find any dings or scratches. I've even banged it against stuff at times. Only area with some light scratching is the part that contacts my skin which I believe is sapphire and ceramic? No issues with any portion of the titanium or the screen. In fact this is the happiest I have been with an apple watch. My aluminum one definitely got banged up from doing nearly nothing.

Just traded in my S7 for an Ultra. It fell out of my hands when trying to out the band on and down it went on a stone floor.

First iWatch I have dropped and the first one I have worn before it’s case cover arrived. Go figure :)

It’s got some “character” to it but given the fact that these things dont last for more than a few years it’s not worth getting worked up over.

Yeah it’s unfortunate, I broke my rule of not wearing it till I got a case for it. Kind of seems silly to me though since many of us here have watches of greater value and none of us ran out and got a “case protector” for them.

Makes me wonder just when this case cover and protection mindset came into our minds.

Anyways here’s a pic of the “damage” and I am certain the structural integrity of the Watch has been compromised as a result of this poor finish ( sarcasm ) ;)

The first scratch is always the toughest, but to be honest: A case to destroy the great design is not worth it at all with materials like this. Just enjoy it and your "damage" isn't really taking anything away. It actually might make you look like you use it for what it was designed for!

Many people have the AW Ultra… but nobody has one with that exact blemish at that precise spot.

What I’m saying is, now it’s unique to you, like a fingerprint or DNA genome.

I don’t understand how people can be so OCD about something as trivial as getting a small ding, scratch or scuff mark on their watch case? The screen, sure I get that! But a few dings, scratches or light scuff marks on the case just adds character to the watch in my opinion. Each one being a memorable moment that makes the watch personal to you!

Remember, these devices are outdated once the next model is released. Heck the battery on these devices have a limited life span too! Even if you pay Apple for a battery replacement further down the road, Apple will simply replace your watch with a refurbished unit. Who knows what state the internals will be in let alone the exterior. Just enjoy your watch, it will be in landfill before you know it!

I had a TAG_Heuer dive watch, and was walking down a hall that had a really cool looking rough brick wall on one side. I moved closer to the wall to allow someone to walk past, and my wrist (watch) brushed against that wall. Scratched and chipped the 'ultra-strong all natural crystal'. OUCH! And I mean chipped it. One second, a light brush, the right place obviously, and OMG!! 'It' happens. It didn't effect the waterproof seal, but looked really quite gnarly. So sad, crushed, surprised.

From what I have seen the protective cases for the AWU cause more scratches than you have here.

I always use a case and screen protector on on my iPhone but have always gone case free on my Apple Watches. I have had my AW S4 aluminum since launch day and except for some VERY fine scratches on the crystal it looks pristine. I had the very first Apple watch and until the battery expanded and caused the crystal to crack it looked great as well.

I will take my chances with my new AWU and enjoy it for what it is and go caseless. That's just me. I don't judge others for wanting to protect their watches or whatever.

So many people on these forums bash people for wanting to use screen protectors or cases on their items. I never understand why others are so concerned with how people protect their items.

That's fair. I get stuff happens but I also would not expect any watch to survive rubbing against brick without a scratch. I think people just seem to have crazy expectations about durability. Day to day use without rubbing against an abrasive material or dropping it it seems to hold up in my experience.

Had another TAG watch, less than a couple months old, fall from my hands about 2 to 3 feet onto a tile floor and shatter the crystal. One drop, not even that high, with nothing but gravity helping it to the ground. *SMASH* Heuer wouldn't warranty it, even thought they said 'durable natural crystal watch'. I learned that natural crystals have a 'grain', and if it's hit on the right spot with the right amount of pressure, it sets up harmonics that shatter and chip them. (Like the back window of an old car that was loaned to our group doing extrication drills. Three people were placed in areas in the car and the 'responders' had to figure out how to get them out with the neck and backboards and crew they had. They had a fairly well known point in the intact rear window, that when hit with a surprisingly light amount of force, the entire window would shatter, and not being tempered, or multi layer, the whole thing was a pile of glass. So one guy showed us 'that spot', completely shattering the window. The responder group had to reimburse the yard the cars came from because that was a rare window to survive an accident and was in high demand. Oops...)

I don't know if it's just me or not but the Titanium finish of the Apple Watch Ultra seems to have a coating akin to the Aluminium Apple Watch. Notice how in the photo below, the light scatters across its surface. The Apple Watch Edition, by contrast, is a brushed titanium finish.

I've ordered an Ultra but I'm a bit concerned about scratches and chipping. I know that the natural titanium of the edition could be easily restored with a refinishing pad. But I get the impression that this isn't the case with the Ultra owing to the texture.

it also seems to have a slight chamfer around the raised casing that I'd imagine is going to chip or get dinged rather easily. Does anybody else have any thoughts on this?
I’ve smacked mine pretty good a few times and I don’t have any marks or scuffs. It seems much more durable than the standard Apple Watches

Y’all know Ti is softer than SS right?

Lots of advantages for Ti, there is a reason some call it “gods metal”, but taking physical abuse isnt where shines

That said if you’re ruff enough on your watch that you’re scratching the Ti, how did you do without the sapphire lens on other apples?

That being said I wish Apple would have went polished Ti, matte or brushed anything gets marks easily

Polished or brushed would be easier to restore. This bead blasted finish is impossible for the user to remove scratches or blemishes from.

Titanium is a strong metal but isn't a hard metal. There is a very good reason knives are not made from titanium and instead made from steel. The AW Ultra uses titanium because it is a huge watch and needs to be lightweight. This doesn't meant the surface finish will be as durable as a steel watch, but then this is an extreme sports watch and isn't meant to remain pristine. I get the impression this watch is mostly bought by 'desk divers' though, but then most mechanical dive watches are also.
