This is one of the reasons I think people will see scratches,

I myself noticed the hook always hits off the case when taking it off

Over time this will indeed create scratches.

I can’t say one way or the other whether that’s going to create scratches. Presumably the clip is also titanium so it isn’t any harder than the watch case. But I wlll say that it’s awfully annoying!
May be a scotch brite could have expedited the polishing task? Although it poses a risk to the screen if not handled properly.
I can’t believe people doing this disregard the issues created by getting fluids (Cape Cod cloths) or bits of abrasive into the various little holes in the Apple Watch cases. I’d rather have some cosmetic imperfections than abrasive crap and goo getting into the watch, but everyone is entitled to make that call themselves. I only suggest that they think about it before jumping in with two feet.
Do not sand the case of your watch! Yes, Scotch Brite counts. It will damage both case and screen.

Where are people getting these insane ideas?

That’s not nice.

He’s an idiot because he prefers a different look?

There are names for people like you too.
I don’t know if someone is an idiot for doing this, but there’s nothing that suggests that this is a good idea. If it were my watch, I’d make a different choice.

As I was walking to my kitchen, I passed the door really too close and BANG! my Ultra hit the door. I looked at it, there was some white paint on the chamfered side of it… I removed the paint with my finger sweating like hell, scared about what I would find under that layer of paint and maybe wood…. And…. Nothing, not a scratch, not a dent, scuff or gouge. I may have been lucky or my door is really too soft 😅. See you next time dents, scuff, gouges and dings… I am sure you will win at the end.

Titanium, aluminum, and some other metals naturally form a layer of protective coating, and this process happens even after cosmetic scratches. These guys are interrupting the whole process to cheese grate their watches. It’s absurd.

Got a Ultra yesterday. Scratched today while staying home doing nothing special. I have been using a S4 SS for 4 years and it looks new. Didn’t expect the ultra to scratch this easily.

Before you guys come with all guns glazing I request you to watch this video-
Just because it doesn’t sound right doesn’t mean it can’t be done.
The series titanium is brushed the Ultra is bead blasted. You can’t fix scratches on bead blasted watches by brushing them.

This appears like gouge in the metal. Was it a big impact ?
As ultra sits tall it would take some getting used to with the spatial awareness .
I struggled initially for good few weeks.

I have no idea. Stayed all day at home. Not even an impact. Maybe I washed the dishes that’s the most extreme thing I did that could potentially scratch it! I was so upset that I returned it anyway.

Ya I am pretty scared when doing the dishes too. 😂
Well I am glad your Ultra agony has come to an end!

So glad I returned mine. It may be durable when doing a tough mudder, but it cannot stand up to laundry, dishes, and normal around the house things lol.

Yes it’s not as durable as stainless steel versions .
But having used ultra for 2+ weeks I can’t see myself wearing an other Apple Watch. Ultra is like a wife - can’t live with her and can’t live without her.😏

My ultra also got some small dents already after 2 Weeks.. But I already got used to it, as I got used to the scratches on my AWS 4 SS. I see it as a working device that has to serve for me and no the other way around.

I guess these are on the sharp edges around the screen and crown?

Apple should have put a slight curve on these edges which would reduce the chance of dings like this.

No, this can happen with the rounded parts as well. It’s the fact that titanium is a harder material.

I,agree on the sharp edges of the titanium surrounding the screen. It should have been rounded or better yet, the screen should have been imbedded flush with the Watch body. The existing sharp edges will take a lot wear.

But they also made that design decision to protect the screen from cracking as this is a sports watch meant to be banged around.

‘I believe that the screen would have been even more protected if sunk into the body of the Watch rather than be “perched” on top surround by the Ti ring with sharp 90 degree edges.

Well that’s gonna make it look ugly like a gshock the current design is a compromise between aesthetics and protection. Those sunken g-shock screen are a bit too much for me.

Aesthetics vs durability. The Ultra is not the nicest looking watch either way.

I love mine. I prefer it to to the looks of the regular watch. So who is right and who is wrong?

I stand corrected!😃

I guess it is in the eye of the beholder. I love my Ultra and my Series 7 SBTi but like it looks of the S7 better than my Ultra. Does not mean I think the Ultra is Ugly, I guess it is more utilitarian where my Series 7 is more sleek and beautiful.

it is good Apple give us choice as you prefer the Ultra. There is no right or wrong, just different people making their own choices.

You know if the rest of the world come to this same understanding we would be a better world!
