I'd love to swap out my current AWU with alpine for the trail but the 2 week window closes for me on Friday. Any chance of these popping up in the US by then?

I was lucky as I happened to be in the Apple Store a week after getting my Ultra with the Alpine Loop and I was able to swap it with one with the Trail Loop all be it the blue/grey one. It’s growing on me although I prefer the black/grey one which I have on preorder right now.

Is there actually any real functional advantage in the pull tab, or is it mainly styling?
If the pull tab was missing, would the loop still be able to be undone?

It’s more a style thing then a functional thing. You don’t really need it though to undo the band. I have noticed the Velcro on my Trail Loop is far stronger than that on my old Sport Loops. The material also feels like better quality.

Don’t have mine yet, but as others said looks like an styling gimmick. But, maybe Apple was thinking it would be handy for when wearing gloves. However, you usually remove a watch indoors after gloves are off, so seems gimmicky to me. Perhaps it’s how Apple justifies the $50 uncharge over the regular sport loops. Once I decide to keep the AWU I’m going to snip the loop off. Just seems like it’s going to catch on something or be annoying.

In keeping with the "works better when wearing gloves" design theme with the Ultra, I think it has more function when wearing gloves.

Just got home from my travels and my eBay bargain was waiting for me. Have to say, this is a hugely comfortable band and a much nicer version of the old sport loop!! Can’t wait for my black one to eventually show up from Apple now!

Edit: also very much happy the S/M is shorter than the sport loops of old, so there’s less band looping back over. Brilliant!

Nice band choice. To me, all the other trail bands look like old carpets in a cheap hotel but the one you’ve got looks great

Personally the black/grey and blue/grey are a better choice especially as the beige/yellow being so light is going to show dirt a lot more. I actually like the black/grey the most which I have on preorder. I have the blue/grey and at first I wasn’t keen on it but it’s grown on me. Hopefully in the future they’ll introduce more colour choices.

Sounds valid. Design is always subjective, if you like whichever colour combo - that’s great! I’ve got the white alpine one. When I saw the white one my first thought was - this is what Indiana Jones would wear (don’t ask me why) so I got that and I’m really happy with it. With it being white - I’m someone that doesn’t really care abiit it being dirty haha, I’d probably wash it on a medium temp once it gets disgusting.

I don't understand announcing a band and having it not available for launch. Doesn't seem Apple like. I check daily for local pickup for 2 colors and one is Nov. 2 and one is Dec. 8

I just leave in the bag in the Apple Store app and hope it's available for pickup sooner than later

Oh I'm sure Apple didn't intend this, but there must have been an unexpected production issue.

Not like Apple makes the bands. They outsource it to specific factories.

Some runners have fine fingertip motor skill loss after a marathon. But design looks like styling.

In keeping with the "works better when wearing gloves" design theme with the Ultra, I think it has more function when wearing gloves.

Ideally, the strap should be adjusted before donning gloves, but it could also have the unintended consequence of snagging on something and becoming loose while working.

Very odd that a band would hit production issues, but you are probably right. One band says 8-9 week delivery.

yeah it strikes apple very seldom but it has happened in the past. I bet there was a quality control issue with the bands or unexpected staffing issues at the factory... the thing is apple not only fixes it, but they remember. these factories are loathe to mess up because they lose the apple contracts.

I am surprised there is no in-store pickup yet for these bands separately. Fingers crossed it shows up soon!

Anyone got a listing of the complications used on the trail watch face? Can’t figure out the bottom right?
It's a custom Compass Waypoints complication.
In the compass app I created a waypoint, changed the name, icon & colour to MY BIKE, bike icon & yellow to reproduce the promo pics. It then appeared as an option in the Compass Waypoints complications.

The default Waypoint complications were Last Viewed Waypoint & Parked Car Waypoint.

Returned my launch day ultra and ordered this yesterday (next day delivery) from BestBuy. This is the band/color I wanted from the get go.
