You’d be crazy to upgrade from Ultra 1 to Ultra 2.
on the other hand (no pun intended) my S5 is looking decidedly tired, beaten up and pedestrian… S2 Ultra might be just the thing… the orange ocean band might seal the deal… because lets face it the Ultra is all about the pose…

My thing is… which “average customer” would even buy an ultra Watch? Lol. It’s meant for diving and people are really engaged with the features. People are buying it just for the esthetics

I think it's ugly esthetically, but I may buy an ultra 2 for the battery life and bigger screen than my AW6.

Edit: Make that "did buy", and I still think it's ugly, but I like functionality over esthetics every time. :)

who/what defines your "average customer"?
I paid $849 for my S7 Ti, the Ultra was cheaper and offered much more, so guess ... and whatever reasons people have to buy one should not really be your concern to begin with ...

I did look into it just to see what it would cost to do a trade-in and purchase the Ultra 2. Trade-in for Ultra 1 is about $340, so one would be paying a little over half to upgrade to an Ultra 2. I'm a little surprised that the trade-in value was so good (or tell me my assessment is wrong. :) )
Keep in mind $100 of that is technically for the band, the other $700 is for the watch, so that makes it seem like more of a deal

I honestly see zero reason to upgrade.

Gestures are covered in accessibility.

I regularly run on very sunny days in the summer and never had a problem with the brightness of the screen. I can't imagine a situation where the 2000 nits was too low.
I live in NZ and will take all the brightness increases I can get. The sunshine here in high summer is like a blowtorch sometimes!

Apple's trade-in for the Ultra is actually $380, in the US. that was part of my reasoning to get the 2 as historically AW trade-in values were extremely low
