Apple will launch its annual Back to School promotion for university students in the United States and Canada this week, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

Apple's back to school sales provide students with a free Apple gift card when purchasing a Mac or an iPad, and this year's promotion could help Apple push the new M2 iPad Air and M4 iPad Pro models. Last year, Apple offered U.S. students up to $150 when purchasing a Mac and up to $100 when purchasing an iPad.

Apple actually began advertising its Back to School sale on social networks in early June, with some Instagram users seeing an ad promoting Macs with discounts to college and university students.

The ad depicted a Back to School image with the following text: "Buy Mac for university or college with education savings. Plus get a gift card for up to $200." The screenshot of the ad was from a Canadian user, and that price point suggests we will see the same $150 discount in the United States that Apple provided last year.

Clicking on the ad redirected to Apple's education website, but the ad seems to have gone up early as there has been no sign of a Back to School promotion as of yet. Last year's back to school sale began on Monday, June 5.

I would really hope they increase the iPad Pro gift card for this year based on how expensive it is now. Should be the same as the Mac gift card @ $150 USD.
At the very least, free Apple Pencil Pro with the purchase of iPad Pro M4. I am betting both iPad Air and iPad Pro (along with Mac mini) will be a $100 gift card though, and $150 gift card for MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and iMac.

I literally just placed an order that said it'll arrive July 1 thinking I can just get an adjustment or something when I get it, lol. If it's only a few more days to wait, I'll just cancel it and buy it when the sale goes live.
They won’t make any adjustments. They will make you return and rebuy. As long as it’s within the return window otherwise you’re up to the store managers discretion.

If it goes live within the 14 day return period, Apple will honor it.

Ok, it's the same outcome either way. But now that I know the sale is coming this week, I'll just wait an extra couple days.

No they wont. If its within the 14 day return window, they will honor it. I have gotten an email the last 2 years for devices I bought within the return window and gotten the gift card.

And yet I never have. I wonder what drives the difference? I’ve always had to package all the stuff up, return and rebuy. I much prefer your solution. It really makes the most sense.

That’s probably best. But another user here said they’ve gotten emails to claim the gift card. I will say that most of the times I’ve done this it was when they did beats headphones or AirPods, so maybe with a physical product it’s different and I’m behind the times. But I have done it when they’ve given gift cards and they make me bring all the stuff back.

So I bought the 12.9 M2 Pro from Best Buy for $799 and I'm still in the return window. Should I get the 11 inch M4 for $899 and get the $100 gift card? I don't use a keyboard or pencil. 12.9 feels too big but now my 2018 11 inch Pro feels small lol. What should I do?

So if you’re within the return window, do they just let you come in and get the gift card or do they have you make the effort to bring in boxes and return/rebuy everything? I assume it’s probably her latter because, as a business, they probably gamble on seeing if the customer is willing to put the effort for $xxx.xx gift card or not.
