Bizarre. I've been to at least 10 Apple Stores, and none of them were in malls. Are there others?

The Chicago area has 2 that are in Malls, Old Orchard in Skokie and Woodfield in Schaumburg. I bought my iMac at the Old Orchard store on Black Friday 6 years ago. I may get my 2nd today.

I suppose Apple could sell cheaper if they closed the stores and stopped advertising... That would be a more level playing field with amazon.

But I am not in a mood to quibble - the more money apple gets - the more they can spend on making products that are worth paying that bit more for.

Or, the more money apple gets - the more money they can make on bad QC products that they know people will keep buying.

No, not so bizarre. The Apple Store in Louisville KY is in the Oxmoor Mall.

I ordered a 32 Gb Touch online with today's discount for my wife. I managed to convince her that getting the iPod-to-AV cables would be a good idea-- they're compatible with both the touch and my new nano, and we could play the video clips I record with the nano while on vacation next month on the hotel TV. On top of that, it'll charge whatever's connected. Score!

Apple's Black Friday sale is a joke? Seriously, what was the point of it? I guess the rumors of 20-30% were greatly exaggerated.

No need to bash Asus, I've got plenty of very good very fast reliable PC's I've built myself. Yeah, Windows7 and Vista are crappy OS's and drag the performance down, but WinXP is still pretty fast.

Anyway, I was hoping some Mac Mini's would be $100 off so I can could buy 5 of them and setup a nice render farm (for QMaster FCP) and install SL server. Oh well.

Too bad, I think Apple really missed the opportunity to bring on board a bunch of cheap PC fanboys. At the very least it would have made the PC/Ballmer leg humpers see the "other side" of computing. And who knows they might even realize what they're actually missing rather than the constant myths they spread about Macs.

Just go to Tom's Hardware sight, endless false information posted about Macs. But the reality is these dweebs are just cheap, make something cheap enough for them and they'll buy it.

^^^^^^ Cheap people aren't necessarily good customers. Why should Apple devalue their products just to satisfy them?

Maybe Mercedes and BMW should have a sale to bring cheap customers to them too.....

Oh, and to the guy who says that Apple Stores aren't in malls....... are you having hallucinations from eating too much turkey?!?:D

I just saved $120 on a Quad-Core iMac with my company EPP and the Black Friday sale. That is better than the educational discount.

The best discounts are from Apple employee friends with an end of lifemsiacoutn,'combined. Apple employee discount 25%, end of life, 15%, if it's a product returned because the user just bought it and wants the newer on, tack on another 10-15%. Got both my macs that way. The last one I got was a 15"'$2499'for $1469'or something like that. My next;'i hips and pray will just be the 25% off when the mac pros get to 16 cores.

Mmm mmmmmm good.

If you kind of have a mac friend that you always deal with, ask him if you can use his. He gets one per
year and starts over in January. He might offer you one of his two family and friends discount. Similar to college discount but 20% off eveything. Se items higher or ask him/her to see if there are any end of life macs you can get. For example all
the iMacs prior to the new ones out now are now end of life and it does not affect their 25% I believe. You would save'up to 40%!! Good luck.

Every luxury brand has a sale,
BMW and Mercedes always offer very competitive lease rates for example.

There's no reason to sound elitist, it's the Holiday season people are going to spend A LOT of money so of course they would like to save a good chunk while they are shopping for TV's, laptops

I'm not trying to sound elitist.

When you significantly lower the price of your own product/service, you devalue that product/service. It gives consumers the impression that the regular price, which is what is charged for 364 days of the year, is too high. That can cause consumers to feel less inclined to purchase that product/service at that price, which may force that company to lower their regular prices.

Part of the perceived value that the public has regarding Apple products is because of the premium you have to pay to own them.

When, for example, Amazon provides these lower prices, the consumer most likely understands that Amazon is losing the additional profit, not Apple.

I'm not saying that I wouldn't be happy with a more robust discount directly from Apple, I'm just saying that I understand why Apple chooses not to provide large discounts.

I'm always amazed what you kids learn in Fanboy school. Compare Apple products with BMWs. Use words like "elegant" ,"Delicious" , and "sexy" to describe a computer.

And of course justify the high prices (High Margins) with rants like "Apple doesn't wish to play in the bottom end".. "Market share isn't everything"...

Yes it is - it is everything. If there's one thing Ballmer got right it's "developers, developers, developers"... I can't run my business on a naively because developers won't develop the software I need because of low market share - No Anvil, No Autocad, no Primavera Project Planner, no business "standard" accounting package (Like Computereese or COINS).

And please, I need to run standard software, not "Uncle Joe's CADD" or "Joe's Excellent Project Software"...

I love my Macs, and luckily, I can afford them. They're good for safe surfing on the web, email, and doing my media (graphics/movies/photos), but that's about it... Until Apple lowers the prices to where they are affordable to everyone - I (and millions of others) will always need to have a PC to get any real work done...

And please, don't even bring up BOOT Camp or other virturalization nonsense. That's a pain in the ass and it's almost as cheap to buy a complete PC than it is to buy a copy of Win 7. (plus I don't want that garbage infesting my Macs)

Parallels Desktop 5 for $58 at Apple online store, and others

The first post pointed to Parallels Desktop 5 on sale for $69, but Apple's online store has it for $58. Also Photoshop Elements 8 for $68 and and Toast 10 Titanium for $68. Pretty good deals.

this is the very reason why people hate the apple bandwagon. if apple doesn't want to play in the same sandbox w/other retailers on black friday - that is their prerogative (i can accept that); but don't go justifying the elitist stance in their deference. (why are there cheap $50 ipod shuttles??)

Btw, BMW and MB DOES cater to cheapasses - it's called the 1-series and the A/B-class. and yes, they have their "black fridays" all the time, every month.

Rich people aren't necessarily good customers ... middle class people aren't necessarily good customers ... in fact you don't know who is a "good" customer and what even defines a good customer?

Point of having sales (good ones) is to "get the customer hooked" -- then kill them with the accessories (which Apple is very good at doing) ;)

Although Apple's desktop and laptop revenue percentage is high, it's still not high in market share -- and that IS relevant. Apple still NEEDS market share to seriously go head to head with Microsoft, they're in a pivotal position to do that given Windows7 release and many are looking for New computers. Please don't say "Apple aren't interested in going after Microsoft" because that is completely false.

Personally I'd like to see 50/50 Apple vs. PC - that will drive innovation and price cuts on both sides, and who knows, it might even force Microsoft to re-invest in the US rather than India. IMHO, it's Microsoft's investment in India that has produced two of their worst OS's (Vista and Win7) since WinMe -- they just don't get it form a design/engineering perspective. At least Apple is keeping most of their design/engineering in the US while assembly is done outside of the US.

Apple missed a BIG opportunity here.

^^^^ No they didn't. They sold a lot of product through Apple Resellers while maintaining the premium on the products they sell in their own stores. Seems like they took full advantage.....

I'm neither a kid nor a fanboy. I enjoy using my Macs as well, but I am not blinded by Apple propaganda. I am merely pointing out why Apple has chosen their pricing strategy.

If Apple wished to play in the bottom end, they would have lower-end computers that are in the $500 range. Where are these products?

Do not attribute comments/concepts to me that I never made.

Nice rant.....

Why would I want a 1-series or an A/B class?

Let me know when Mercedes and BMW knock 25-30% off of their prices. That is what all the complainers are asking for from Apple.

They're not being elitist.... they're maintaining the premium on their products.

I wanted to see ABSURD discounts on everything for just one day. 25% or more. Just once. Oh well.
:D

COULD WE PLEASE STOP THIS BULL@#$! OF COMPARING MACS TO BMWS ETC.!!!!:rolleyes::rolleyes: I JUST WANT A @!#$%& MACBOOK TODAY AT THE BEST POSSIBLE PRICE!!!!:eek::eek: ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!! THANKS!!!:D:D:D

sorry, I didn't know that you were in charge of the discussion.

I wanted to see ABSURD discounts on everything for just one day. 25% or more. Just once. Oh well.
:D

Well, I saved 20% on the MBP I bought yesterday from Amazon:
Amazon price: $1,049
Apple regular price: $1,199 + 9.75% CA sales tax = $1,316

I saved $267, which is 20% of $1,316.

Don't be smug

You mean the same AAPL stock that you're eligible to buy and profit from?

Save this type of comments for investor forums. People here are trying to figure out how to save 100 bucks and you are advising them to invest in Apple?

What are you driving?

Another smug Mac owner driving Honda Civic, not able to afford Mercedes but feeling superior because of this type of comparisons. Out of curiosity you might check some quality PCs like this HP machine for $7K:
