Don't give me the nexus is pure rubbish, my 7 became a coaster once I put MM on it. And I'm Guessing you haven't had a Sammy tab for a while , the tab S and S2 are chalk and cheese to the earlier tab 4 etc. Same as the s6 and S7 are miles better than the s5. TW is incredibly light and fluid these days. If anyone says differently they are just plain wrong and have some hidden agenda.
Considering that I didn't mention Nexus nor vanilla Android and you believe that your opinion is irrefutable fact, I can only conclude that you are not interested in a serious discussion. Feel free to carry on.

There are no metal Android tablet. All cheap plastic. That is my biggest gripe with Android tablets and the sole reason I haven't bought that many. They all feel cheap.

Even new laptops are now only metal.

However, there is nothing wrong with the OS. Perfectly fine. I have a Z4 tablet and did also own a Samsung S2 Tab for the Amoled screen but gave it away as the plastic and design bugged me too much. Samsung claimed the S2 was the thinnest tablet on the market. I didn't bother to measure but on feel alone it felt twice as thick as the Z4 tablet. Couldn't work out why but probably due to the cheap feeling plastic Samsung uses. Samsung needs to adopt the S6/S7 design approach to their tablets.

The Tab S2 is .22 in thick and 10.51 oz and the Z4 is .24 in thick and 1.86 oz

The plastic back doesn't bother me in the least. It is a bit of a fingerprint magnet which needs to be wiped off once in a while, which is the only time I even think about the back. I always put a skin on the back of my iPads anyway to keep from scratching up the aluminum. I think it's a great tablet. I've hardly touched my Air 2 since I bought it. In fact, I just sold the iPad a couple of weeks ago. I think the build quality is solid and the screen is excellent. I think it's the best tablet out there right now. Just my opinion of course.

Why would.that be when the best tablet you can get is made by Samsung, and is on a par.with an ipad at the same price point.

Not market opinion, and market opinion is what's most of relelevant when it comes to this thread

No I detest cases. If I drop my phone and scratch it badly I will buy a new phone. I also don't use screen protectors.
LOL. Not me. My metal iPhone SE and my glass S7 Edge both sport Spigen "cheap" plastic cases. And my Tab S2 sports a cloned leather Apple iPad "smart case". I like to keep my mobile devices in pristine condition.

But your point about how something feels "cheap" just because it s made of plastic smacks of an 'elitist' attitude. Kind of like saying a Corvette is cheap because it is made of plastic (and unless you are driving a carbon fiber La Ferrari or Bugatti Veyron, your car must feel pretty cheap too.)

After a few years i tried again a Android tablet with the tab s2. And it's Not better than a few years Ago. So many phone apps and no Smooth Experience. Even my ipad air First Generation was a better Experience in nearly every app. So i selled it and ordered a ipad pro 9.7 now.

Tablets as a whole are dying, but I don't think we'll see them disappear completely. Personally, I think most Android tablets are total junk. The only Android tablet I would buy right now is a Pixel C, since it comes close to matching the iPad. Other than that, they are janky in my book.

Love Android on a phone, not so much on a tablet.

You bang on about bloatware and touchwiz, which logically means that you consider the Tab S models to be inferior to those Devices without such things.. I.e. nexus tablets....when in reality they are no where near as good.

I agree.

The S2 is nowhere as good as the Pixel C, which is the newest vanilla Android tablet you can get.

The problem is Android lacks a premium quality tablet to match the iPad.Lets be real here, the Tab S2 despite having a better display than the Air 2 still feels very cheap and also a half hearted effort from Samsung considering we know what they are capable of in the S7.

Android also continues to blow up the phone apps and while it works fine on 7 inch screen,it looks downright atrocious when you bring 10 or 12 inch displays into the picture.Blank spaces and huge text makes it look weird

I don't think Android on tablets will go anywhere until Google actually decides to Make a killer iPad like tablet

Im pretty happy i can buy an app from playstore and run it on my phone/tablet/tvbox.. Some apps may not be optimized for tablet/tv but they work just fine. I would be disappointed if i couldnt run the same apps with all devices and was forced to buy those same apps for each of the devices.

I have several same apps running on my tablets (ios/android) and i cant really tell the difference between ios/android that i could say ioad is much better. Sure you can name some specific app you like better on ipad but most cases i dont see any differences..

I'm curious what are some of these "phone apps" people are mentioning. Name some names.

If you want to talk about unoptimized tablet apps, on an iPad in the music app, if you turn on home sharing, songs with long title names are truncated. Just a lot of white space on that iPad screen.

I think everything you've said about android tablets is true however I think the end is nigh for tablets in general including iPads. iPad sales have been on the decline for a few years now and show no signs of slowing down.

The tablet market as a whole is on the decline. People are keeping their tablets for 4 years or more as they don't see the need to update yearly or even every two years as they do with mobile phones.

Larger phones have also eaten into tablet sales.

I think another reason is that at the start tablets were hailed as laptop killers. Whilst a few devices like the surface pro can legitimately replace a laptop for many the tablet is still a consumption device.

I haven't personally looked at it systematically in a while, but these quotes, taken from Android tablet reviews in the last 6 months or so mention some names.

The Verge, Pixel C
"One big problem is that most of the apps I use on Android tablets still aren’t truly optimized for tablets. Most apps are comprised of wide, wasted expanses of open space that are technically designed for any screen size but actually aren’t utilizing all this screen real estate. That’s problematic with third-party apps, but it’s unforgivable from Google’s own apps. Hangouts, the perennial forgotten child of Mountain View, is a mess on this device. Even Google Docs (presumably the app best suited to this keyboard) feels more like a phone app than something I can do real work in.

It gets worse with third-party apps. The Pixel C wants to be used in landscape mode, but too many apps assume that they’re on phones. Popular apps like Slack, Twitter, and many more toss you into portrait mode even when the keyboard is attached"

Techspot, Galaxy Tab S2
"While Microsoft’s apps were impressive on the Galaxy Tab S2, there is still a collection of third-party apps in the Play Store that aren’t optimized for tablets, many of which are from popular brands and services. The Twitter app, for example, is appalling on a 9.7-inch screen, as is Facebook Messenger and Instagram, while the standalone Facebook app is only decent in landscape mode.

However, the good news is that the collection of unoptimized apps has shrunk since the last time I used Android on a tablet. There is now a sizable collection of well-made apps, spanning everything from news services (Feedly runs great on the Tab S2) and productivity tools (such as Office, Photoshop, Lightroom, etc.) to video services (Netflix, Plex) and a whole ton of games"

PCMag, Pixel C
"The main problem is, many Android apps aren't designed for large screen in landscape orientation. Load up Facebook, Twitter, or even Google Docs on a tablet like this, and instead of a smart interface tailored for a big screen, you essentially see the phone interface that's stretched wide with lots of white space on the sides or in the middle. The situation has gotten a bit better with time—Microsoft Word, Evernote, and Autodesk Sketchbook, for instance, all are truly tablet-friendly now. But many big-name apps still lag behind. Because of the way the UIs are designed, this is a smaller problem on 7-inch tablets primarily used in portrait mode, and a larger problem on 10-inch tablets that snap into a landscape dock."

For PC replacement tasks Android is far better than iOS. My two iPads are rather useless even for basic things like browsing since Safari is terrible and so is my new Apple TV but people keep gifting them to me. I was also gifted an Amazon Fire 7" tablet that was going for about $35 which I side loaded Cyanogenmod 12.1 so it's much more useful than the iPads. What I'm really enjoying is the $40 Odroid C2 ARM SBC which is a better Raspberry Pi 3 that I use as PC replacement, web/file server, HTPC (makes Apple TV completely useless), etc. that can run either Linux or Android.

You're clearly joking since Android doesn't have an Internet browser as good as Mobile Safari. I'm not saying Safari is great, just that it's better than the competition.

Actually samsungs latest browser is just as good as safari and maybe better in some ways. I own both a large ipad pro, galaxy s6 edge plus with marshmallow, and a galaxy tab s2 and there is nothing lacking in the Samsung browser in comparison to safari. Both are equally good but I would give rendering heavy websites with many graphics a definite advantage for the Samsung browser.

The advantage that android devices have over ipads as being a laptop replacement is mouse support and a file system. The main weakness is the app market but that's not too much of a problem on the 4:3 tab S2.

Oh joy, pushing the same narrative as a lot of people do. Still as wrong as when people used to say that there was a need for a command line or floppy disks.

Why limit yourself to Safari if you don't like it?

Download Chrome, Dolphin or Firefox from the App Store. The iPad is not limited to one browser as you suggest.

I didn't say there was. I just said that the idea of forever needing a mouse and file manager is an antiquated idea. Technology evolves and we need to evolve with it as newer ways of using it take over.

I was avoiding getting involved but the statement "Technology evolves and we need to evolve with it" is just wrong on so many levels. Technology should never be the driver or you end up with people using tablets to do things that are 10 times faster with a pen and paper. Truly ludicrous.
