The reality is tablet sales are slowing because they are not replaced as often. Again.

Apologist reality? Every iOS update slows it down time so you're forced to upgrade to a newer model to have a good experience and to keep sane. More likely people are not upgrading because it's useless and/or they've upgraded to a superset hybrid device.

I purchased every iPad 1-iPad 6 (aka iPad Air 2)

Currently decided to skip iPad 7(7.5) iPad Pro models unless one of my kids breaks the screens on their iPad Air and iPad Air 2.

For me. Probably iPad Air 2 will last easily 3 years. The kids may even last 4 years.

So tablets almost remind me of my laptop days where I was literally upgrading every 2-2.5 years with the lastest greatest Intel models from 1996-2006. Desktops would last me 3-4 years since processors were better.

But starting around 2006. Especially with the Intel core 2 duo being release that year. I didn't feel the need to spend $1500-2000 on a laptop every 2 year.

Same has happened to iPad. There was much improvement in iPads the first 3-3.5 generation. But nothing major since 2012.

Sure it's thinner and faster and more powerful. But it's not worth upgrading even every 2 years. You are looking at around a 4 year life cycle for (high end) tablets these days.

What the hell does 'apologist reality' mean?
You are talking out of your behind because every topic you take part in you are so anti a certain brand it is impossible to take you seriously.

I know so many people with iPads and I have never heard anybody complain that they are not buying new ones because they have been slowed down by updates. What an absolute load of ill educated tripe. lol

I think tablet as whole is in slow but surely death. As our phone gets bigger and laptop become thinner, there is less need for tablet.

THIS.

I rarely hear anyone talk about tablets anymore - and I see them a lot less than I did a couple of years ago both at work and when visiting friends in their homes.

Doesn't matter if you switch to a different browser on iOS since Apple forces the same broken Safari rendering engine. There's also the issue of not being able to change the default browser app so instead of clicking on a link you have to jump through hoops to copy/paste into non-default browser. Trying to browse on iOS Safari feels a little too much like this...

j4.jpg

When it comes to browser I only have four main requirements that it renders sites correctly, stability, fast smooth scrolling and ad blocking for both 32 and 64-bit ARM. Only Chrome delivers. Firefox is a close second. iOS Safari is broken in all four categories. Seems like every other iOS update reintroduces the spinning wheel "problem occurred with this web page so it was reloaded", javascript engine bug that freezes the iPad, MR forum intermittently not rendering properly, etc. Problem is Apple won't fix any of this because of apologists claiming everything is perfect when it's not.
Actually, you are somewhat wrong. UC browser HD on my ipad pro does not render like safari. You will not get those same rendering issues that safari is known for getting. Go and try it and come back with your consensus, trust me something is wrong with the coding in safari.

I'm still chugging with my iPad air gen1, use it everyday

Im a smaller phone guy though, so I still want a tablet.

Looking forward to the next ipad mini / nexus 7ish type devices though, I want to move down from 9.7"
I'm the same and pretty much everybody I know is too. The 6 Plus is not so common that I have seen with most people using the smaller option on iOS that I know. The iPad still very much has its place due to having a bigger screen but is not upgraded so often.

My parents have an iPad 2 and original iPad Mini with no need to upgrade yet. I have an iPad Air first gen and my wife and daughter use an iPad 3. A lot of my friends and colleagues are using iPad 2's and 3's. I know this because people bring them into work for lunch time browsing. I'd love to know where all these people are that have had their iPads ruined by updates or swapped them for hybrid tablets whatever they are lol.

Not only is the origin a red flag but so is the cloud based rendering where your private data is funnelled through foreign servers. I'd rather suffer with Safari than follow lemmings.

I use safari with anything that I consider private....purchasing goods, paying bills etc...but for leisure and reading UC browser does the job without the rendering issue especially when looking at high graphic websites ....

Since no company cares about their tablets,

Except for Apple and Samsung because I think Apple definitely cares and are very serious about the iPad and I feel it is the same for Samsung as well. :)

But do you think Samsung cares and are serious about there Android tablets?? Particularly there Tab S line tablets??

Thing is, isn't the S tab a better option than S tab 2 based on specs and screen quality?

Yes the Tab S and Tab S2 are different in a few things like the aspect ratio but overall the Tab S2 is definitely a much better Android tablet then the original Tab S mainly because of the 4:3 aspect ratio which it definitely is so much more better for tablets and is better for tasks like web browsing, playing games, reading, more then the 16:9/16/10 ratio(is only good for watching widescreen videos/movies) which I think Samsung definitely made the right move moving from 16:9/16:10 to 4:3 aspect ratio on there tablets.

And all so the Tab S2 is more powerful and more power efficient then the original Tab S because of the powerful Exynos 5433 processor however there is downgrade in screen resolution(not much difference) and size of the battery compared to the Tab S but despite the decrease in the size of the battery, the battery life is still as good(slightly better) on the Tab S2.

But overall the Tab S2 is definitely a much better all round Android tablet then the original Tab S in many ways and when the Tab S3 gets announced later in the year, I expect the Tab S3 will be even better! :) :)

Samsung do not care about their tablets. Development has not match the pace of their phones.
They still do not have an acceptable tablet in the market. They silently released a new Tab S2 (version 2) but this was just a small spec bump.

Tab S was so laggy that it was unusuable. Tab S2 was better but it basically a blown up Note 4. How about giving us a blown up S7 or better a blown up S7edge especially with NO PLASTIC.

Even their new Windows tablet is a POS relative to the competition.

Huawei seem to be making a decent charge in all spaces and have released an interesting metal Android tablet. However , it a Huawei so not for me.

Why are most tablets 'junk'? What is the context of that statement?

Didn't say most tablets. Most android tablets.

Because most of them are cheap chinese stuff with crappy battery life, crappy screens, etc. The market is flooded with junk.

But, as per history, plenty of people will be willing to buy it.

There's a reason Kia out-sells Bentley.

I see what you mean now, but I suppose they serve different price budgets.

Kia make good cars though, I know as I own a Kia Sportage ;)

Unfortunately for Android, both tablets and phones, their image is associated with cheap junk.

It's only recently that their phones have got better and Android have become somewhat respectable to the market outside of geeks and poor people. Their tablets have not. I have bought so many flagship Android tablets and have always been disappointed with them.

If it wasn't for KODI, I think I would have given up on them along time ago. Getting KODI on my IPad Pro is a pain in the a..
