Unfortunately for Android, both tablets and phones, their image is associated with cheap junk.

It's only recently that their phones have got better and Android have become somewhat respectable to the market outside of geeks and poor people. Their tablets have not. I have bought so many flagship Android tablets and have always been disappointed with them.

If it wasn't for KODI, I think I would have given up on them along time ago. Getting KODI on my IPad Pro is a pain in the a..
I don't think that's a fair summary to be honest. I used Androids from 2008 to 2012 and I never got the impression they were junk. The interface wasn't as polished as we see today I agree. I also don't agree they were ever associated with 'poor people'. Not everybody sees a phone as a priority in terms of spending and mobile phones have never been a measure of somebody's wealth.

Samsung do not care about their tablets. Development has not match the pace of their phones.
They still do not have an acceptable tablet in the market. They silently released a new Tab S2 (version 2) but this was just a small spec bump.

Tab S was so laggy that it was unusuable. Tab S2 was better but it basically a blown up Note 4. How about giving us a blown up S7 or better a blown up S7edge especially with NO PLASTIC.

Even their new Windows tablet is a POS relative to the competition.

Huawei seem to be making a decent charge in all spaces and have released an interesting metal Android tablet. However , it a Huawei so not for me.
I think it is pretty obvious that Samsung does NOT care about their tablets (at least about their mid and long term lifespan). It seems like they come out with new models every 4-6 months, abandoning their previous models. Because of that, 3rd parties don't invest too much in providing accessories for them.

I however disagree about plastic. My GTab Pro 8.4 doesn't feel cheap or inexpensive. I love the backing of it. It doesn't REQUIRE a case, and has a nice feel to it.

For as much as people say that TouchWiz performance is improving, it may have improved slightly. I find Samsung's bloatware more offensive in draining performance. By simply rooting my Pro 8.4 and freezing all of Samsung's services running in the background I was able to attain some excellent performance and battery life improvements while keeping TouchWiz active.

But Samsung does know their audience... which generally has hardware specs as their top priority (as is evident by most of Samsung defenders pointing to specs as the reason for their tablets' superiority. User experience is not as high of a priority)

One thing I've noticed as I've drifted over to some Android devices is that in tablets the cellular approach is much more restrictive than it is with iOS tablets. With iOS virtually all carriers are supported so you can buy the cellular versions in a store and not have to think about which carrier. But in the Android world, that is not true at all, or at least from the two 'brands' I looked at.

Nexus branded seem to be all GSM unlocked, or at least can be. But no Verizon unless I'm misunderstanding.

Samsung's all seem to be locked/sold to support a specific carrier. That alone would keep me from ever considering Samsung tablets. To be honest, my past history with Samsung support on a few other products usually means they aren't on the 'list' anyway.

These days I will only buy a phone or tablet that is totally unlocked and preferably cover all carriers. Since there isn't any carrier subsidy on phones for the most part, and never really was on tablets, I'm just not interested in their 'self interest'.

I had the original Nexus 7, the 2013 Nexus 7 then the Nexus 9.

All had faults, but the biggest steaming dog turd of them all was the Nexus 9 - slow, laggy, unresponsive, overheating et alia.

Went for the iPad Mini 4 and it's like night and day - stellar device.
