I can not make or receive phone calls on my iPhone (or my wife's iPhone) inside our house. Calls received are dropped usually within 20-30 seconds of answering. Same for calls made. I live in Cary, NC (a suburb of Raleigh). My solution is to get a MicroCell unit (I hope that fixes the problem). I would switch back to Sprint (even if I had to pay ETF), except for the fact both my wife and myself absolutely love our iPhones and can not imagine using another phone at this point.

You should read up on the htc Hero. It seems to be a pretty decent alternative from early reviews. I'm in the same boat as you.. i do like my iphone very much but the prospect of getting away from ATT and saving a few bucks every month with the data plan on Sprint seems like a pretty good option. So i think I'm giving it a try. The hero is released on Oct 11 (its an android phone).

Where at? Depends on where you are and what building but I've never had an issue in Chicago.

I'll be at/around the Metro, which appears to be near-ish Wrigley, from what I could tell on the map. Of course, I don't plan on using the phone much once we get inside the building, but I don't know how long we'll be waiting in line outside or wherever beforehand.

In San Diego the closer to the city you go the better the service. Head east (El Cajon) and the coverage is very spotty. Dropped/failed calls on a daily basis, and SMS that get delivered from 1-hour to 24 hours later.

ATT service in Texas really good

I live outside Houston, and ATT has great coverage in this area. I travel through central and east Texas and service is very good. Went to Leakey to the Frio River and all or neighbor's phones on Verizon didn't have service, while ATT edge was full bar. At the deer lease in east Texas I can sit in deer stand and get edge full bar. 3G coverage is very good in area too. There have been some upgrades around my house, for the last month I get 3g full bar in house where before I had to step outside for 3g. I have been with ATT for 10 years, and for the areas I frequent there isn't a better cellular service provider. The Iphone is icing on the cake.

Your 3G will be fine. There isn't a Cubs game so you'll be good. You may only get EDGE in the building, though.

Have fun seeing Sunny Day Real Estate. I wish I was going.

I would vote yes but the one place where I think I'd use the service the most (work), the signal is terrible.

I live in Lafayette, Indiana (about halfway between Indianapolis and Chicago), and At&T service is actually really good. I have had very few dropped calls and the data speed is great. I'm not afraid of an MMS overload either...I think our towers in this area can handle it.

Edit: I should add I have full bars of 3G most everywhere I go. Had 3G capiblities in this area since June 08 (Ironically around the launch of the iPhone 3G).

I have had no problems with AT&T. My reception is amazing and I have not had one dropped call.

I feel sorry for the folks who have had less than satisfactory results with AT&T.

I hate AT&T. I just moved back to college, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Pretty nice school. I used to have service all last year, but now I come back, I can't get a phone call out anywhere. Now I live in appartments on campus that were recently built and I dont get service in my apartment. The AT&T reps on campus stated that the towers just simply don't reach there. When no less than a quarter of a mile away the other apartments have perfect service. I hate AT&T and their horrible service. I hope the system crashes for everyone once MMS comes out.

That's nice and mature of you

AT&T is fine for me.....

"I just moved back to college." Apparently you just live on campus but don't actually attend classes?

And WTF is up with wishing ill will on every other AT&T customer just because you've got an issue?

Gee, I got a flat tire so I hope every other car in the world gets a flat tomorrow so that everyone is as unhappy as me.

cal poly slo is a great school:)
are you talking about the appartments on the hill over looking the the baseball/softball fields if so i can see where you might not get service.

i hope you really dont wish bad on mms to many have waited to long:D

Lol yeah I love in the new apartments in Poly Canyon. Really nice but no service. There were AT&T reps on campus and I asked them "I have 5 bars of 3G, why can't I make a phone call?" And they were simply stumped and were having the same problem. It's quite comical, it's all over the campus the reception is bad. Never had a problem last year but this year it's really tanked. Anyways, I'll just live on verizon for the year then quit if AT&T gets their act together. They probably won't though. This issue is a continuation of last years. Complaints were filed, promises were made by AT&T to bring up more towers by late '08, but of course it didn't happen. Oh well, verizon here I come.

Never really had any problems with AT&T, but I do wish their plans were a bit cheaper.

What do you think?

I took these screenshots while I was sitting on my couch:

Not really. Too many drop calls & network searching too often :( iPhone :apple: is the reason I'm still with them.

My phone doesnt have a battery life anymore because its constantly trying to pick up a signal on campus. Constant "searching" and one bar then "searching" then no service back to "searching..." it really wears a person down. But who cares verizon will get my go phone business and everything's gonna be alright!

Please be specific in your issue with the cellular service, and where you are located (would help)...

We all know the iPhone is amazing... Nothing beats it, and I don't know if there will be anything close to the iPhone in years to come. In my mind, the next best thing for the iPhone - is for it to be released to Verizon and other carriers in the next year or so.

Hopefully, the MMS update will be a smooth transition for AT&T...

Friday the 25th may be a crazy day, so give it some time to level out - http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/ATT-Nervous-About-Smooth-iPhone-MMS-Launch-104606

Alright...

Northwest suburbs of Chicago - great reception all around. Had some 3G holes a few months ago but at&t closed them and expanded their 3G coverage.

Downtown Chicago - 3G everywhere but, depending on the building you're in, the reception dies. That's the building, not the service.

Northwest side of Chicago - great 3G reception. I've noticed no holes.

North side of Chicago - great 3G. Same as above.
