I have been fully on the iPhone 15 Pro Max hype train the last couple months, but I'm pretty disappointed after seeing the keynote. I'm also not usually the person who lets myself get disappointed after Apple keynotes.

Comparing the 15PM and 14PM specs on the Apple website is kind of mind-blowing to me at how few differences there are. I think I'm most disappointed by battery life and the 3nm chip. I wasn't expecting the huge battery increases that some were, but I was expecting at least an hour longer. I don't understand how 3nm is supposed to be this revolutionary change and even got delayed from debuting in the Pro iPhones last year, yet there's only a 10% increase in performance and no battery life gains??? The only thing that makes sense to me is that Apple reduced the physical battery sizes. But even then, I don't understand how they tested the exact same battery life two years in a row. You'd think there would be some variance in battery testing.

I'm disappointed by the colors. I wanted gold. Gray looks too warm to be a futuristic gray that I wanted. Blue looks nicer than expected but I'm afraid it would just look like Pacific Blue in person. As always, you can't really tell how dark the Black is just from Apple's marketing photos.

Also, there were basically no surprises that the leaks didn't reveal which feels pretty unusual. Even for the 11 Pro - 14 Pro years, Apple has always created some sort of secret camera feature (ProRes video, Deep Fusion, ProRAW, Photonic Engine, Cinematic Mode, Action Mode, Photographic Styles, etc.), but there was nothing here that wasn't leaked before.

Then, on top of all this, Apple only offers $650 trade-in on the 14PM. Apple offered $720 for the 13PM at the 14 launch, and $790 for the 12PM at the 13 launch - a $140 difference! I sold my phone last year, but was considering doing trade-in this year for the convenience, but now I really can't justify it.

Idk, I'm just really disappointed. I'm considering just keeping my 14PM which pains me to say because I really haven't liked this phone much. It's been a bad upgrade year for me. I know some people have had great experiences with their 14PM, but I had a bad pre-order experience, a bad eSIM experience, lots of bugs, and poor battery life from the start, so I was hoping the 15 Pro would be a big improvement and fresh start for me.

I'm thinking about just pre-ordering the 15PM and trying it for 2 weeks to see how I actually like it and if it's any better for me in real life because maybe I just got a defective 14PM, but idk. I did a cost analysis to see how much it cost me to upgrade year-over-year last year, and it was around $500. Idk if I can justify a $500 upgrade for no battery life improvements, only 10% performance improvements, and boring colors.

I feel the same way.

I am in the upgrade program and doing an upgrade would cost me nothing. However, I think the iPhone 16 is going to be the more revolutionary upgrade and if I wait another year and pay off the iPhone 14 I own, I can sell it and use that money toward the 16.

BTW, you can get much more money for your old iPhone by selling it online with sites like "itsworthmore.com" or "sellyourmac.com". At least, you should. Now that the phone is announced sell values are probably down.

Weird, the 15 Pro Max wasn't so much a price increase as it was just dropping the 128gb model. Anyway it doesn't bother me too much because I was going to get the 512gb one anyway, it's the same cost as last the 512gb model the last few years.
Same thing I said. It’ll be the same amount I paid last year.

Top tip: Always generate a sell/trade-in quote 24-72hours before an apple event. It cost nothing and you usually have 7 days to make a decision on whether to go ahead or not :) ;)

I’m fine with everything else except the colors. This was the year that I wanted to go back to a gold iPhone. I already have the Pacific Blue 12PM so I didn’t want another blue iPhone.

I feel like Apple has listened to me, personally. I know that's not the case but happy coincidence 🤣

Coming from 11 Pro, please adjust your relative point.

- slightly rounded corners (absolutely hated the sharp corners of 12-13-14, I don't use a case)
- brushed (hated the tacky, shiny tin-like 14 Pro)
- titanium on the outside, aluminium on the inside (nice, 14 Pro was just too heavy)
- significantly lower price than the 14 Pro Max 512Gb version where I live, the most pleasant surprise of the evening

Great!

I don't care about the lack of periscope, ray-tracing is useless to me, the "action button" a complete gimmick, everything else more or less irrelevant dross.

Hate the pillbox but I'll do my best to hide it with a crafty wallpaper that's black on top.

It still hits the important bits. Upgrade time!

I have the 11 Pro as well. Which iPhone 15 model are you considering? 15 Plus and 15 Pro are not too far apart in specs although only $100 US apart, so it's probably better to just to get the Pro for the camera/CPU. They're both a decent upgrade from the 11 Pro nonetheless, though I'm not impressed by the offerings and I think the 11P could last another year.

I will try the 15 Pro Max with 512Gb of storage. I could definitely live with the 11 Pro another year but mine is doing funny stuff even after two battery replacements in the last 12 months.

PS: I thought I should elaborate:

1) it overheats when using CarPlay (wired or wireless) to the point where it's very hot and it won't charge
2) it drains way too much battery when playing podcasts (screen off) - it's also quite hot, as if this was some challenge

To top it off, after getting a Flip 4 as a different contract phone (I won't get into details), I realised how crap the speakers on the 11 Pro are to the point that I just use the Samsung for any youtube stuff, it's way, way better.

I’m unsure, wife and I both have an iPhone 12 and it still works perfectly fine. Not sure if it’s really worth upgrading to the 15. My contract is done with Telus now and we have our phones outright, would be nice to keep the plan cheap since it’s only $115 a month for both phones including taxes.

I think this will be the first year I'm considering the non Pro version. Had my 13PM since launch and to be honest I dont feel I'm a "pro" user anymore. I've actually made a conscious effort to reduce my screen time and use my phone less so it doesn't make sense to get the most expensive version. Only thing I'm hesitant about is going back to 60hz

$115. Cheap!? Is this the 'one cell line provider available' thing I hear about in US cities? I pay £12 p/m for 50GB 5G. £27 all in for me and my partner and a line for my Ultra.

Like most years, I jump on getting the new model at the very first minute and often return it within days. I’m in the same boat this year, I’ll get it at preorder and give it a week. My iPhone 12 Pro works great. No issues with battery and looks and performs just like new. I just have a problem with the compass (it points the wrong way). Really annoying when walking and looking for directions. Never managed to fix it despite following all of Apple’s recommendations. So I think it’s a sign to get something new.
I was going to get the Pro max for the better zoom camera, but not really impressed with the specs and I feel this is a first Gen feature and this will be bumped to 10x or more next year or 2015. I prefer the smaller form factor anyhow and all the other features are the same (except battery life).

Been busy today, havent followed the keynote but

is the difference essentially-

better cameras
titanium side but not much lighter
same battery life (sigh)
usb-c port
a17

for 15 pro max? I see $1199 and starts at 256gb as well

The colors arent great imo, I dunno may just hold onto my 14PM

It's been a busy day for me too. I caught the tail end of the Apple Event right as they were discussing the 15 pro and pro max cameras. As a 14 pro max user who does use their phone occasionally for photo and video jobs, the 15 pro max is tempting for that reason. Also, I am a BIG gamer, and hearing that the 15 pro and pro max will be able to run console versions of games like Resident Evil 4 remake and Resident Evil 8 is INSANE. I honestly don't care to much about the titanium side or USB-C.

Sadly, Apple is offering a low trade-in value for 14 pro max and I don't really need to throw 600-700 dollars at upgrading since I also have a Disney World trip with friends coming in November and a trip to NYC after in December... So I may just have to hold out until the iPhone 16 :(

I‘ll be keeping my iPhone 13 Pro another year I guess. Nothing I saw in today’s event is enough to make me upgrade. The USB C connector would be convenient, as would the lighter titanium body, but the 13 Pro still meets my current needs extremely well. Might be different if I was a professional photographer/videographer or played games on my iPhone. Looks liked I’m getting locked into the 3-year upgrade cycle since I went from the XS to the 13 Pro previously.

Hold up if I get the base model iPhone Pro Max it would only be 550 out of my pocket with the 14 pro max trade-in…. Let me think about this. 🧐

I’m thinking of upgrading 12 pro to 15 pro but now looking at the 15, is there much difference? What would I be losing if I went from 12 pro to 15? The 15 and 15 pro seem almost identical other than the lack of telephoto camera on the 15.

I am planning to upgrade however I use Spectrum Mobile which is an MVNO on Verizon. You can’t use your Apple Card unless you are on AT&T, Verizon, or T-Mobile per Goldman Sachs requirements.

Why would I pay in full upfront instead of 0% interest for 24 months which is why I have the Apple Card.

Nope. I have the 13 and I think the 15 has some neat upgrades I could use but nothing that speaks much to me. My family passes phones down until they stop working and my previous one was a Samsung that my sister is using currently, but she mentioned she wants to try an iPhone out. I might give her my 13 and get a 15 because of that. The Pro as usual doesn’t speak to me although I wish the regular had a higher display refresh rate so it’s gonna be a regular 15 if I do end up picking one up.

Super happy they added rounded corners as I couldn’t agree more, those sharp corners were terrible. 14 Pro, 13 Pro, no gym needed, those phones have some weight. Glad to see the 15 Pro now weighs roughly the same as the 14/15 non-pro. Even the Max losing 20g is nice.
As for the pillbox, at first I thought it was gimmicky but it’s actually really useful, especially if I have YouTube music playing but in another app, just touch the pill box and I’m back to YT music. It has its upsides. As for the mute switch though, well—at some point they were bound to remove it. Holding it for a few seconds would be annoying though just to turn on mute, if I saw that demonstration right.

Nope. He‘s referring to the great Canadian Mobile monopoly owned and operated by 3 massive carriers with a few garbage budget carriers, who are actually owned by the big 3. When you hear Canadians pay the highest mobile rates in the world—it’s no joke. Plans start at $80 for $20GB 5G but capped at 250Mbs, and that does not include a phone 😂😭. Sometimes you can find deals but a deal would be like $40-50 for 40gb on crap slow data.

Likewise, wanted the Gold SS Pro but understand that the colors had to be boring and muted to mask the expected paint chips, scratches and dents that will result from titanium instead of more durable stainless steel. It's lighter, but understand there were even corner dents when dropped which will reduce the trade in value. I don't want to have to put on an ugly case to protect an ugly color for a phone that's a bit lighter. Also, am on the Upgrade program and also decided to wait, for the first time, to pay off rest of phone and keep the 14Pro I like. Hope we get a gold option and a few more features with the 16.

No. Stick to 14pro until next year

Was also goin to get ultra 2 but no black. Have 6 , may get 9 , then give 9 to family member when blood pressure feature is integrated

According to this article the phones have had a price cut in the UK compared to the 14 models.

They have. The 14 pro last year sold for £1099 and 14 for £849. The 15 pro this year is £999 and 15 is £799. It hasn’t been that low since the iPhone X from memory.

Apple is offering 420 EUR for my current iPhone 12 Pro Max. I was actually thinking about keeping it another year to upgrade to the iPhone 16 Pro Max next fall but it just occurred to me that I could simply upgrade to the iPhone 15 Plus in the meantime. It would only be 680 EUR and I like the Non-Pro colors more anyway
