Are you upgrading to the 11/11Pro/Max?

Not everyone is disappointed. Particularly everyone that likes the current designs are elated. In fact sales would say otherwise.

Are you saying iPhone 11 will not sell because of your specific disappointment or unmanageable expectations. Because I don’t see that happening.

I have an Xs Max and will decide in September if I’m going to upgrade or not, but so far I really like what I’m seeing.

Btw 5g isn’t ready, everyone that bought a beta 5g phone this year will have to have it replaced in a year. If they hold onto it for that long.

I didn't say everyone was disappointed, but there will be quite a few who feel the same as me I would imagine. It'll sell, but I'd be surprised if it outsold last year.

How are my expectations unmanageable? They are all features on phones from other manufacturers this year, hardly anything out of the ordinary.

Some will, most wont. That’s the way it works every year.

So if the 11 sells more than the xs you would be surprised, is that’s it?

Were you also surprised by how much the iPhone X sold, with its price notched screen and lightning connector?

Apple released an lte phone a year after everyone else. First year implementation of 4g on smartphones was horrible. Same is happening with 5g.

If you want a beta 5g phone there will be a small selection to choose from this year from other oems. But you will be replacing it next year when the new modems are out.

Notch-less screen. Come on. That’s not going to happen apple uses Face ID. It’s not going to happen next year either. None of the other oem have 3d facial recognition let alone one without a notch.

Google is rumored to be releasing a phone with 3d facial recognition this year but their implementation requires a bar across the top of the screen.

Other manufacturers lack features and hardware components that only apple implements.

It’s actually very out of the ordinary, hence the poor management of expectations.

As for the phone being re-designed in 2017 - Apple has pretty much always introduced a new design every two years apart from the 7 and 8 being similar (iPhone 3G - 2008, 4 - 2010, 5 - 2012, 6 - 2014, X - 2017), so 2019 was the year for a new design.

The 6,6s,7,8 are largely the same phone, so at this point, WHO KNOWS what the redesign interval is. With the X less than two years old, I for one didn't expect a refresh this year... IMJS

Otherwise excellent post!

Even being on the Annual IUP I am tempted to keep it another year. I will only have 8 payments left so another year I get 4 months no payment and full cost of selling my XS Max

I’ve upgraded yearly since the 6 and for the first time I’m considering skipping this year’s version.

Currently have a XS Max and very happy with it. Battery health has dropped to 96% but had it since launch.

The rumours and mockups of the iPhone 11 look hideous, especially with that big black square camera at the back.

Genuine question: _If_ the iPhone 11 ‘triple lens camera’ proves to be something no one was expecting in terms of what It can produce in results, would that hideous design on the back of the iPhone prevent you from upgrading? (Assuming you were considering to upgrade.)

I’m pretty happy with the camera on the XS Max. I’m not a photographer or instagrammer. I only take pics of my dogs haha.

So probably no I won’t upgrade because the camera is amazing.

That would be enough for me. But it would have to outscore the Pixel 3/4 and P30 Pro. I would buy that iPhone 11

I'm almost positive the 2019 iPhone will delight most, and still manage to surprise with a feature or two.

But for the tech savvy, and those in the know... It would almost be negligent to purchase the 2019 iPhone; unless you're a yearly upgrader, but even then...

Hopefully Apple learned, from the slowdown in sales in 2018. I have faith they'll do the right thing with pricing. But, I secretly want them to go below expectations for two consecutive years, so the hopeful rewards are even better in 2020 and beyond.

The same thing happens every year. Threads about how people will skip this year only to watch the iPhone keynote and do a complete 180 and buy the newest version.

I’ll probably upgrade. I do every year, and lately have found myself zooming more and more on my XS, so the idea of going back to a larger iPhone is sounding more appealing by the day.

Unfortunately, it's not always feasible to base purchasing decisions on Apple's release schedule.

I really do not understand why are people complaining about the camera looks great to be honest.

I guess I can understand why people complain about the camera, I don’t necessarily think it’s great, but I don’t have a problem with it either. The reason I don’t have an issue with it, is I don’t look at the _back_ of my iPhone (like ever) and most traditionally use cases anyways, which would mask primarily what you would see with the camera.

I seem to have switched from a 2 year cycle to a 3 year cycle. Nothing coming in 2019 sounds that interesting to me, but if the 2020 iPhones have a design something like this (i.e. iPad Pro like design with a shrunk down notch/hole punch) I might be looking to upgrade in 2020.

Same here. I was an every year guy for the 4/5/6... phone tech has caught up and every year upgrades just don't make a lot of sense anymore. 2 year upgrades are even questionable.

Gonna roll with the 8 Plus for a 3rd year. No reason not to. It still takes great FB photos... if I want something better I'll use my standalone camera for pics and 4K 60 fps video. (My drone also has that video capability.)

1 more payment left on both my 8 Plus and my 2nd gen iPad Pro... the money doesn't really matter but still not going to upgrade and pick up another $1000 device payment when there is absolutely nothing a new phone will offer me that I care about. (That includes Face ID... the Touch ID button is still going strong and nobody has broken into my phone despite it's lack of Face ID.)

:)

The only thing that will make me upgrade is if the phones are cheaper and it would reduce the monthly direct debit on the IUP highly unlikely there be a price reduction on them thou.
