Are you upgrading to the 11/11Pro/Max?

Same here. I was an every year guy for the 4/5/6... phone tech has caught up and every year upgrades just don't make a lot of sense anymore. 2 year upgrades are even questionable.

Gonna roll with the 8 Plus for a 3rd year. No reason not to. It still takes great FB photos... if I want something better I'll use my standalone camera for pics and 4K 60 fps video. (My drone also has that video capability.)

1 more payment left on both my 8 Plus and my 2nd gen iPad Pro... the money doesn't really matter but still not going to upgrade and pick up another $1000 device payment when there is absolutely nothing a new phone will offer me that I care about. (That includes Face ID... the Touch ID button is still going strong and nobody has broken into my phone despite it's lack of Face ID.)

:)

But, but, but... your 8+ was such a poor purchase choice! ;)

I’m ready for no more phone payments for a while as well. Paying this Max off next month. I’m okay skipping 2019.

As for the phone being re-designed in 2017 - Apple has pretty much always introduced a new design every two years apart from the 7 and 8 being similar (iPhone 3G - 2008, 4 - 2010, 5 - 2012, 6 - 2014, X - 2017), so 2019 was the year for a new design.

Iphone 6, 6s, 7 and 8 all had very similar design (yes I know C came out alongside the 8). 4 years of roughly the same design. We should stop saying “this year was the year for a new design”, as there obviously no longer a pattern.

I'm almost positive the 2019 iPhone will delight most, and still manage to surprise with a feature or two.

But for the tech savvy, and those in the know... It would almost be negligent to purchase the 2019 iPhone; unless you're a yearly upgrader, but even then...

Hopefully Apple learned, from the slowdown in sales in 2018. I have faith they'll do the right thing with pricing. But, I secretly want them to go below expectations for two consecutive years, so the hopeful rewards are even better in 2020 and beyond.

Even then what? You’re saying my choice to upgrade every year since is negligent because because I’m tech savvy and in the know? Come on now. What does it mean or even matter.

Since I bought a Xs last year, I feel no need to upgrade. I have been on the "s" generation upgrade timetable and see no need to change that.

I am on the upgrade program through Apple, so I am eligible each year right at pre order, so I will get the 11 Max even though it will not really be anything special, but I upgrade every year.

Me too but this year I don’t see the point in upgrading unless it’s a feature we don’t know about.
I rather make the final payments then be payment free for a few months and I have a XS Max that is 100% mine to fund the 2020 version

Plus I still have that 12 months AC+ to fall back on if it fails during the 2nd year

Lol, and here I am considering getting the iPhone 8 to replace an existing iPhone 7 (which will be relegated to travel phone). The iPhone XR is just too big while the XS is too expensive.
I went from a 6s to an 8 in the fall of 2018 and for the most part the phone doesn't feel very different, but true tone, wireless charging and better battery life all ended up being things that made it worth it for me.

I’ve got an 8+ too and it’s plenty good enough right now to skip this years devices IMO. It’s still fast, takes great pics and does all the same tasks I’d be doing on a newer device anyway. This is what happens when iPhones get too good! lol

...iPhone 7 to iPhone 8 will offer almost nothing new - a bit of a pointless upgrade IMO!
It's either the iPhone 8 or buy another iPhone 7.

I need an extra phone (preferably not Android) by December since the battery on our "travel" iPhone 5s's are shot and camera's broken. I don't want to buy a used iPhone because battery life is a concern and that tends to deteriorate more quickly on iPhones (particularly small ones) than on iPads. Getting another 7 actually is under consideration depending on availability and pricing on the Apple Certified Refurb store. Still, between 7 and 8, the 8 is at least an upgrade no matter how minimal of one.

If Apple releases a X/XS-sized iPhone at XR pricing (I'm fine with LCD, etc) that would be the ideal option. From current rumors, though, I don't believe that's in the cards this year.

I will upgrade my XS if the 2019 iPhones have Qualcomm chips. My XS has piss poor cellular reception with the Intel chip. However, I will wait a month or two into the new cycle to see how the 2019 iPhone performs.

If the leaked renders are true I think I’ll be skipping iPhone 2019 too; I’m all for improved camera experiences (and I know it’ll never replace a proper camera) but I’d rather Apple focused on image quality first and worry about extra lenses later!

Lol. This would be only the third time an extra lens was added, just like every other major manufacturer. I’m sure IQ is one of, if not their main area of focus when performing r&d on optics for their new phones every year. Let’s be serious here and not shoot from the hip.

That’s what another member was saying to, that they’re on the ‘upgrade program’, and they can afford to upgrade annually, so why not take advantage of it. I think it makes it easier if you’re on the upgrade program versus someone that isn’t.

For those who don’t upgrade annually or don’t have any type of specific upgrade program, that’s when the decision becomes more difficult, because the price points are not very tempting, unless you trade in your device or there is a specific promotion through your carrier.

Agree 100%, if not for the upgrade program through Apple I would have skipped the 11, but I am hoping the price is the same, so if thats the case the payment doesnt change.

I don’t think I will upgrade from my XS Max. It works fine and still looks like new. Every since I got the new iPad mini 5, I have been using it as my daily driver ( for the most part). I will probably upgrade next year. I haven’t seen any enticing rumors this year.

Since I have the iPhone Xr (2018) I am going to skip this year for sure. It wouldn't be reasonable to buy a new phone this year unless my current one stopped working for some reason.

I have an XS Max 256GB and have only used 30GB and it's fast as heck. I've always upgraded yearly but I might hold off for another year or two.

biggest improvement for 2019 seems to be
IOS 13 several older models will work with iOS 13.
Hopefully 2020 will have something big making it time to upgrade
And just a comment about 5G........it’s years off till we see full carrier participation and completion of the infrastructure Necessary so 2020 iPhone may not have it

I can already see the headlines this year pointing out Apple having no 5g. 2 years I really cannot believe. Most major capitals have it already or will by the end of this year. Most large cities will next year. I’m sure Apple are not expecting large sales of the next iPhone. It will be even worse if they thought they could do 2 gens without 5g when major competitors have it.
