I have an X and just bought an XS with AppleCare off of eBay and that is my update for now.

I’ll wait and see but it’s a bit disappointing that they are on a 3 year design cycle now with these phones since the competition is passing them with designs at this time.

I’m not upgrading this year neither and I’m also eagerly awaiting this year’s keynote. Next year I’ll be waking up early to preorder with those who will be upgrading.

Every year I hope this will be the year that preorders aren't late at night. :(

Every year that I upgraded I set my alarm and prayed that my order would go through. Every year I got my iPhone on launch day except when the 7+ was released. If Apple changed their preorder time, I think the system would be even more swarmed than usual.

I didn't get mine on launch day this year because I slept through my alarm. #firstworldproblems

The only benefit to the pre-ordering time, is depending on the time zone that you’re actually living in. For me, it works out perfectly, because it’s not too late or too early in the morning, but for others, they literally have to wake up early morning (3 AM as an example), then try to go back to sleep before they have to wake up again for work.

I would add that I'm also the walking dead when I first wake up. I'm always surprised that I don't make a mistake with the order I'm so groggy.

I like staying up and getting the first pickup on launch day.

I won't be doing it this year...

I'm picturing you waiting by your door on launch day...

...only to have a Mac Pro delivered to your house

"Wow, Apple really made the iPhone boxes big!"

lol. I'm more afraid of ordering a phone with the wrong storage amount in my slumber induced stupor.

Yes.
I use a chinese Max with 2 Simslots and AC+ in Germany. So I wait 2 years until AC+ is gone.
Then there will be the Phones with 5G, this should really be a step forward.

I also used to enjoy the annual upgrade but it is too expensive now to justify. I also still love my X.

I kind of regret buying the Apple Watch 3 in 2017 as I bought it when I intended to NOT buy the X and then I got the X (256gb) so cumulatively it was a big layout. Put on 0% credit card but have not paid off as diligently as intended.

That said I tend to buy my phones outright to avoid being tied into 2 years contracts which now seems no longer necessary so I might go with the apple upgrade programme (or buy on contract) if there are substantial camera and camera functionality improvements to tempt me.

I'm in an 8 plus, about to hit 2 years with it and was really kind of looking forward to upgrading this year but i'm pretty disappointed with the mockups I've seen...if it's something I'm going to keep for another 2-3 years then I might wait for the redesign that's hopefully coming next year and won't be designed by Jonny Ives.

Depends on where you live. 5G is fairly unique in that the actual infrastructure is so far behind in a number of countries.

I am not comfortable yet that 5G is totally safe and will be disabling it in the short term should I own a device that uses it. I’m not in any need of 5G on a device yet anyway as the speeds I currently get are more than sufficient.

Will disabling it stop those signals from passing through you anyway? The towers will still broadcast and others around you will utilize. May as well enjoy it.

You are correct. Living in California where Apple headquarter is has time benefit. Midnight is definitely not too late and too early. You are very fortunate to live in California.

Probably won’t be able to stop that but I can limit my personal proximity to it. Thankfully I live in an area that tends to get that sort of thing last too. We didn’t get 4G until about a year after it launched.

Fair enough. I never get toooooo concerned with these things but it would be nice to know that they’ve got a difinitive answer on the safety. Obviously the independent third parties won’t have a chance to test until more people get 5g devices in their hands and are actually utilizing the service.

Since Apple bought Intel's modem business you'll probably be seeing them for a while.
Well, hopefully they'll improve...
When I use wifi in the gym (weak wifi signal), it has to be in portrait mode or it wont stay connected. Leather case, so nothing too thick.

2021 or bust. It'll be fun getting old for once. Not being on the bleeding edge.

Apple has shifted it's mind, meaning they're not trying to do too much each year, knowing people are holding off longer as Tim Cook himself acknowledged.

No point, if you have X or above. IMJS

I have a 6S still. Its OK, the battery was replaced with the replacement program about a year ago and its on 89% health according to their checks.

I dunno now, I'll wait for the keynote and see for myself. I'll go into an Apple Store, do the usual play about with the new (already finger printed marked by this time!) toy and see how I feel. The XS just didnt do it for me, I suppose the price put me off, but then again, if it lasts me as long as my 6S thats not bad for a daily use machine which is always next to me. I have certianly got my monies worth from it.
