Bought XS Max during the last Black Friday sales. There is no need to upgrade for the next 2 years at least. Might change my mind when the 5G and usb-c come together.

Fair point, but when was the last time we were really surprised? The rumors and speculation of the specs this close to the release have been fairly accurate for many cycles now.

I agree, most rumors at this stage are usually pretty accurate, but my point being, I still like to see how the new model performs and if the new features are worth the upgrade. Also I've never been an early adopter, I like to see if there's any bugs needed to be worked out before I upgrade. But that's just me

Sticking with my XS Max.... will wait for 5G and hopefully USB- C in the 2020 model. a design change would be welcome as well.

This is my plan as well. Would be good to stick with one device for a couple of years.

Plus, the new Macs with the new keyboard are enticing.

In all likelihood I will be upgrading my Xs Max to an XI Max. I'm a real sucker for the camera and low-light improvements.

Where they are really getting me is in the iPhone Upgrade Program. I could definitely hold back on upgrading to a 2019 phone and be perfectly happy with my Xs Max for another year, but I wouldn't save a single dollar over the next year. I would still be paying all of the payments on my phone for that year. September 2020 I would have a paid off phone that I could resell for a likely decent amount of money, but over that twelve month period I'd pay the same for a current or last-gen phone.

That allows my brain to justify the upgrade even though I know perfectly well that I'm turning down the opportunity for ~$500 in a year. Instant gratification :)

I am.

Yeah, I'm not going to read something by the clickbait master himself, Gorden Kelly. Message him once on any platform with even the mildest of criticisms and he just blocks you.

I upgraded last year, I'll do it again this year. Good to know you won't though?

Don't really want to upgrade to a bigger phone, but with my iPhone 6 becoming five years old and no longer being supported by software updates, I kinda have to.

I used to be a new every two upgrader but that was when phones were between $699 and $899 for the mid tier model. Given the price of upgrading today, I may wait it out a bit. I had an iPhone 7 Plus for two years, paid it off, sold it, and got the iPhone XS. As soon as I did that I questioned the move, if you are on the iPhone Upgrade Program you never stop paying for a new phone, even of you pay your old phone off. Think I will wait this time to upgrade.

I've skipped every iPhone, including the 2007 original......

I like to be off-line when I leave my desk in my apartment. On the rare occasion that I do carry a mobile phone it is a Nokia 3310, however it is mostly left at home on top of the fridge. I got fibre internet installed a few years ago (with the landlord's permission), but have never had a phone line.

I was the same way. It's a PITA using my XS with one hand sometimes but for games/media/etc the bigger screen is really nice.

Skipping this year I did iPhone 8 Plus in '17, then iPhone XS Max along with the AW4 last Sept. So Apple did get my $$ last year, my willpower was weak.

Even with this suspected 3 lens square camera bump thing on the back, the usual faster processor, etc. It's just not worth it to me and dropping more money, I'm perfectly fine with my 2018 XS Max model.

I am wondering though - like my old iPhone 5, then my 6 Plus (before my 8 Plus upgrade) - will I have to replace the battery in my MAX come next Summer. The 5, 6 Plus batteries started to bulge like clockwork in the 22nd month (Mid July, both of those phones) We'll see come next year. ‍:( At least Apple Care will still be in place.

I'm just looking forward to the iOS13

I'm thinking I'll be getting the 2019 Max. I'm one of those people who jump between iOS and Android. Currently on Android and I have that iPhone itch.

If the XI does indeed come in a copper finish, then I shall be upgrading this fall :) I saw a render earlier of a copper coloured iPhone. And it looks stunning.

Incredible though it may seem to many in this post iPhone age, where so many are connected 24/7, I have never owned a smartphone, and am unlikely to ever own one. As I said I prefer be off-line when I leave my desk.

I was an early adopter of the mobile phone when it arrived where I lived back in the early '90s because I was doing seasonal work and lived a somewhat itinerant life. However, as calls were expensive then, I used it only when really necessary.

Where I lived for a couple of years in the early '80s we didn't have mains electricity (just a couple of hours on a generator each evening), and the nearest telephone was over a dozen miles away. We did have running water, from damed spring on a hillside nearby, which was reliable year round. We got by just fine.

Well then I commend you sir, life must be very peaceful for you.... over by my parts people are slaves to their phones (myself included) I do pretty much everything on my phone to the point that I am constantly looking at it all day.... And I fear that it's too late to change that lifestyle now that the dependency is so deeply rooted :(

I "only" upgraded cause of Face ID and to get rid of the home button from my iPhone 7.

Any future upgrade will have to have SUBSTANTIAL MERIT of similar caliber.

I intentionally paid upfront for my 256GB Xs Max to avoid future temptation.

I love Apple, yes love, but these prices are unwarranted and speak to the greed that is being pushed on us consumers as a whole BY ALL CORPORATIONS, while at the same time as not compensating their employees correctly.

Robert Reich has an AMAZING documentary on Netflix entitled "Saving Capitalism". A must see!!! This price gouging, along with inappropriate wages, and corporate greed are at the heart of the film.

I want the best product for my needs, but I don't want to play these games!!! We really as a society are at a turning point.

Rant over/

I can’t reach the top of my fridge. I guess that’s a good thing. Knowing me, I would clutter it up if I could reach it.

That’s actually pretty cool. People who don’t have everything in their lives heavily based around technology will not be fazed when disasters strike.

But I can’t help think of Weird Al’s “Amish Paradise”

“As I walk through the valley where I harvest my grain
I take a look at my wife and realize she's very plain
But that's just perfect for an Amish like me
You know I shun fancy things like electricity”
