I don’t own a mini, but I’m thinking of buying one for the first time.

Does anyone know if the cases for the Mini6 fit the Mini7?
I have a broken mini6, so I checked. The Apple folio is the same part number for both.

This seems more of an issue of iOS/iPadOS itself. I keep experiencing this since the beginning of iPhone and iPad. Even on my M4 iPad and iPhone 16 Pro.

It's partly iOS/iPadOS but I get far, far, far fewer reloads on my M1/16GB iPad Pro. At least I've been able to leave my forms open, look up data and then go back to the form without the tab reloading.

Yes. Maybe my reason is an outlier, but I found the CPU to be oppressively slow, especially in Safari where I'm known to have many many tabs open.

I saw a video on YouTube saying the mini 6 is stilly might powerful enough, and I'm like, really? I realized I unconsciously began avoiding using it because of the slow UX issues.

I look forward to being able to use iPadOS 18 and Safari and everything else on a snappy CPU.

Not sure where this comes from but I've seen it in several posts. Last data I saw that appeared to be reliable (not just a variety of opinions written in an online forum) claimed that 1 out of every 5 iPads sold is iPad Mini. There's a LOT of iPads. If 1 out of every 5 is Mini, it's a pretty popular iPad.

While I'm just one guy and thus no statistics can be inferred, it's the ONLY iPad I choose to buy/own. And if they did discontinue it, I'd probably go Android tablet for the small size before going with a bigger iPad or a hypothetical iPhone fold.
I sure hope you're right! I am definitely just going by the general consensus I see repeated so frequently, and the fact that the mini goes so long between updates. I would assume that if Apple considered it a high seller, it would receive more frequent updates. Just looking at how often the larger iPads are updated.

And yes, the mini is the only form factor I'm interested in as well!

I need to see the display quality first before I decide to trade in my Mini 6 to get a 7. If there have been any changes to the display to address jelly scrolling issues that affect me then I won't upgrade (like rotating the display leading to jelly scrolling being prevalent in landscape orientation). I am not thrilled about the need to change pencil type but I suppose if I do go for a Mini 7 I will just give my pencil 2 to my wife (who will likely use it once every few months lol) and get a pencil pro later when I find it on sale.

Unlikely to happen in the next 3 years, but I’ll wait for an iPad mini I can connect to my desktop display and mouse/kb or a Nexdock and use stage manager. Even better if I could do this from an iPhone.

I was really excited for this mini, I’m pretty disappointed with this update over the mini 6.

If there is still an iPad and Mac event this month, I’m still crossing my fingers for a mini pro, but I don’t see it happening unfortunately.

That (hope) makes two of us. I did see that somewhere on a marketing statistics site with good credibility. So I was inclined to believe it at the time.

You can't much trust even cumulative posts "stats" around here. First, "we're" a tremendously brand biased group and second, see the countless posts that start with "99%" like "99% do want" or "99% don't want." If you dig into any of those, you find out that perhaps only the poster is extrapolating their own opinion to the 99% or, in better cases, they and a few friends may feel that way... but they haven't surveyed any others.

Combine the two: tremendous brand bias AND extrapolation of personal preference as if "everyone" feels some way and it's very easy to get bad if not entirely wrong information. Add in the Faux News effect where the same wrong information is written over and over again and it can seem like it must be true because "so many" have said it. Of course, if the "so many" are all writing about the same "wrong" information, they are all sharing wrong information. And the misperception just builds on itself.

See Paul (McCartney) is Dead as a classic example of this just getting completely out of hand.

Pencil Pro is on sale at Amazon for $95 right now. I got one on sale for $90 yesterday.

My Mini6 is fresh from AppleCare after iOS18 seems to have burnt out the SoC or something. So it'd be the perfect point to sell a basically fresh device to get the 7... but with Apples buy-back-offer it still is 599 for 256/5G, which is not really making much sense.

The A17 is not «snappy» compared to the Mini6, it will likely be 20—30% in theory. As most apps (except games and video/music) do not really use CPU/GPU to the max, you will not notice the speed bump and after two days the «new» iPad will feel normal again. Even the M4Pro does not feel fast.

Strangely enough, LLMs bring back a feeling of «hey, this machine is faster than that one» which prior to that felt reserved to rendering video and 3D etc. It has been some time since Photoshop felt slow on a M1Ultra :-D but with generative Stuff like a local Flux you feel like you're back in the 90s, staring at the loading bar.

Oppressively slow sounds off

Do a restore and set up as new ?

I ordered a 256GB Starlight mini 7 . Apple is giving me $230 for my mini 6. I have several iPads around the house. I used to travel with the mini and a MacBook Air but since I got the M4 iPad Pro I don’t need to bring the MacBook Air or mini. The mini is my bedside iPad I use mostly for watching YouTube and web browsing.

I wonder if I'll notice the performance gains from Mini 5 to 7 lol. I do have a iPad Pro 12.9 M1 that I use every. single. day.

Apple Pencil is was a impulse purchase just to have stored on the top and is not used at all.

100% not upgrading.
I don't need another mobile processor, nor do I need to be buying yet another pencil.

This is a cash grab and nothing more.

The forced obsolescence of the Apple Pencil 2 & removal of the SIM tray (there goes the convenience that went with sharing 1 SIM card between my 2 different sized iPads) are big drawbacks that make the case not to upgrade this time, since the "upgrade" benefits are miniscule.

Hm, it's snappy enough on my iPhone 15 Pro. The UI is definitely more fluid than on the mini 6. So I'll be happy.

Though, sadly, I've also occasionally had major slowdowns in Safari on my 15 Pro with tons of tabs. But that improved with a battery replacement and with some more proactive tab management.

Plus, it might be the increased RAM that helps me the most with my Safari situation. When I equated the A17 to "snappy" I should've emphasized the RAM on the SOC. Even on my 16GB iMac M1, my Safari usage can domineer the RAM and occasionally slow things down… I've also occasionally crashed my 24GB MacBook Air M3…

Basically, I just have a Safari addiction problem which I'm not really interested in solving. So bigger & better chips/CPUs/RAM it is!

Perhaps that would help, but I'm not in the mood to start from scratch with every app/login/etc.

Admittedly part of my problem was also getting the 64GB version and coming up on the edge of that too often. So I need 128GB anyway. When I restore from iCloud, there'll be much more breathing room. I can tell 128GB is the sweet spot for my iPad usage.

I basically made up my mind weeks ago I was upgrading if a new Mini came out. I was hoping for a bigger upgrade, but decided the new chip and extra RAM was enough. Best Buy giving me $350 for my 256 GB Mini 6 didn’t hurt.

May not have been the wisest decision, but I’m excited to get it next week.

Yes, the mini released now wasn't enough for me either.

I'll wait for the next event, to see what else is coming.
I don't hold my breath for another mini upgrade, but if they come with an M-chip mini - a Pro - it's not totally impossible, I'll bite.
If they don't, I guess I move on to an iPad that has it, iPad Air it will be next time.
They might be upgraded too, along with the other ones.
I actually found this mini release weird - I really want't to see all upgrades they are up to at the same time.

Which size did you get? 256?

I was thinking that Apple maybe could separate the iPads just a bit more, and the 'iPad Pro mini' could be released with the other iPad Pro's.
Adding just another smaller size to the 11" and 13" - a 9" maybe? (somewhat bigger then the mini though) Makes actually more sense to me at least - ah, we'll see what the Apple's comes with later.

Just going by the booing of the people on these subs, it seems that 800 dollar mini pro would be of least interest to majority. Even the binned chips tell that apple knows that it will sell well and steady but in niche lower amounts.
