Just going by the booing of the people on these subs, it seems that 800 dollar mini pro would be of least interest to majority. Even the binned chips tell that apple knows that it will sell well and steady but in niche lower amounts.
Apple have such variety of products, that speaks to different people.
If Apple made a smaller iPad Pro 9" I would definitely buy it instead of the regular mini, no doubt!

From the assortment Apple offer now, I will not buy the mini 7 next time. I've had Air's also earlier, so it will be the smallest Air with M-chip instead, as it seems from toady's sortiment.
Not purchasing right now, as I want to see the next event, plus my mini 6 is ok for now. I like my Mac's a lot more anyway.

I was going to skip until I realized you get 5.3 bluetooth instead of 5.0. No more battery drain when leaving bluetooth on would be awesome.

The mini 6 is my favorite iPad yet, but it still performs well so I won’t be replacing it any time soon. The 7 looks nice and I would buy one if I needed a new iPad. I have an iPad Pro too but definitely prefer the mini.

I had the Ipad mini 6, loved the form factor, but this is totally on me, i kept getting frustrated with it because of what i wanted it to be, and not what it is! So i returned it and then used the pros for a bit, but the pros to me feel like wonderful hardware that the software is limited for what it can do.

so i returned that and been without an ipad for most of this year and just using my phone (upgraded to the 16 pro max) and you know what, i miss having a genuine ipad.

The phone (even though its the max) is just too small to lay in bed for extended periods of time and watch movies or scroll though social media and i miss beling able to draw or run two apps side by side.

So i said ok, wait till the mini 7 is out, its out, bought one and cant wait to get it and i went 256 gig cellular so i can bring it with me on the rare trip i go on without having to depend on local wifi.

Heres the diffrence for me this time though. Im getting one at launch and keeping it using it as my main ipad. I may one day also get a pro and use that strictly as a laptop but i havent decided yet. The mini 7 is going to be my lay in bed on the couch portable drawing notebook machine.

If i get a pro thats going to be my sit under my desktop laptop device. different ipads for different uses and i fully admit thats a bit exessive and somewhat unnessary.

Would i love a mini pro with 120HZ and OLED Screen and FaceID and a M processor? OF COURSE i would. Problem is, apple doesnt have that out on the market yet.

Id also love a foldable iphone pro that opens up into an ipad mini....again apple does not make that product and i figure i got 2 choices. Wait years for the device i want and do without for years, or buy what is avalable now, use it until hopefully the device i want finally exists and except its limitations and strengths as is? I rather have a device i can use now that still isnt my dream device but serves 90% of what i want it to do, instead of bitching and moaning about the device i want that apple doesnt make at the moment and going without.

I can always trade in the current device towards the dream device later on.

I think this is the last Mini in this form factor. I think based off rumors...by 2027-28 we will have a 120HZ faceId maybe OLED Ipad mini or a foldable iphone that opens up into an Ipad Mini. Its basically inevitable at this point.

There is no way apple cant eventually do it because they are going to have to and at that point we are going to hear the same old "It only took them so many years"

But thats the apple way, and people love to bitch about that, myself included but you got to live in the moment and you can only buy whats on store shelves today.

I cant place an order with apple for my "Dream" ipad because they wont build it custom for me. So i have to make due with what is and im tired of returning perfectly good devices that are still leagues better then what the other guys put out, because its not in my mind what it should be.

No one is forcing anyone to buy these new mini's. They are what they are and yes they could always be better but you have to ask yourself...is what i got now (the Mini 6) good enough and if so thats ok, or do i upgrade...or do i wait until its my dream product?

Im learning to live in the moment and be happy with what is out now! and unless i somehow someway replace tim cook as the Next CEO of apple (highly unlikely) i have no choice but to wait for apple to eventually make what i think they should.

Coming from Mini 5, the Mini 6 tempted me a little with USBC and landscape stereo speakers, and the Mini 7 tempts me a little more with 8GB RAM, 512GB storage, and Pencil Pro compatibility.
But honestly I’m still pretty satisfied with my Mini 5 (5 1/2 years still going strong). I don’t find it slow even on the newest OS, I already have a Pencil 1 (and Pencil Pro for my 13” iPad Air) and Lightning cables, I don’t take the Mini out of the house often so bringing Lightning cables isn’t really an issue, and I prefer that it has thicker bezels, Touch ID on the home button, and a headphone port. And for how I use my Mini (almost always at home with Home Sharing always available, and often times connected to headphones or speakers), larger storage and landscape stereo speakers won’t significantly improve my UX—more just “would be nice” or “just in case”. The 8GB is the most tempting because it would (I’d hope) mean less app/tab reloads, but even that isn’t that huge of a deal to me. I‘m really not sure what a new iPad Mini would have to have for me to upgrade. I mean there’s one thing—I wish it was narrower so I could hold it easier by the edges with one hand, and it could fit into my back pants pocket—but that’s a very niche preference so I don’t see it happening. I guess I’ll just upgrade when something happens to my Mini 5.

I basically made up my mind weeks ago I was upgrading if a new Mini came out. I was hoping for a bigger upgrade, but decided the new chip and extra RAM was enough. Best Buy giving me $350 for my 256 GB Mini 6 didn’t hurt.

May not have been the wisest decision, but I’m excited to get it next week.
Totally agree. I had to think back to what I was anticipating (a new iPad Mini) and having my Mini 5 since Sept 2019...a bit long in the tooth, being lightning, etc., I was...I AM ready for a new iPad Mini with USB-C with whatever iterations it has developed in the 5 or so years. I'm on board.

The Mini 1-5 form factor is superior to the 6-7, in my opinion. I prefer the 5’s aspect ratio as a portrait orientation user, and the side bezels (again, in portrait) are smaller than on the newer models. The home button is timeless and works perfectly.

The only reason I have pre-ordered the 7 is because of the slowdown of my 5, specifically with anything ram-intensive. There are certain websites where it bogs down. The MLB app is a nightmare with auto-playing videos every 10 seconds, I don’t even attempt that on the 5 anymore. For my use, it’s showing its age. I’m glad to hear yours is not for the way you use it. If that’s the case, truly no need for you to switch.

If I could just upgrade the internals of the 5 ala the way computers used to work, I would gladly do that.

I think the mini 7 is a nice spec bump actually. Especially the increase to 128GB base storage and the 8GB RAM (I’m assuming will be the case). I’m tempted! The downside for me is that I’ve got the Apple Pencil 2 that I use with my 11 inch M1 iPad Pro. This pencil won’t work with the Mini 7 ☹️

I‘m going to hold out though for the rest of the year at least to see if we get any blow out sales on the Mini 6 256GB model. $399 would be perfect😊. If I can get a great deal on an existing Mini 6….and I mean a great deal, I’d go for that instead. Especially since I can use my Apple Pencil 2 with it!

I'm not seeing a whole lot of reason to upgrade given that I purchased an 11 inch M4 iPad Pro over the summer as an "iPad mini Pro" of sorts.

That said, I really love my mini 6 and the price drop (256 GB model is $50 cheaper than the same model of the mini 6) does make it a tempting impulse buy. So... super ego says "NO." but id says "Ah, why not?" Unclear which will win out. But I'm sure I'll wait a while to see if the mini 7 actually has twice the RAM and also to see what else Apple might announce that might be a better choice for that money.

But my use being casual browsing and mostly reading books, there's really not reason for me to upgrade.

Promotion or Face ID would have pushed me to make the change - though I wasn't expecting that to happen. Hopefully those features finally do come to the iPad Air in coming years which would be a good sign that we do see them eventually on the mini.

The mini 7 is more for people who have the mini 5 or below or if you have the base model mini 6 with 64gb, then the base model 7 with 128gb and double the ram are a no brainer. If you have the mini 6 with 256 like me, then this update is just not worth it.
Does depend too if you fancy trading in and getting a more future proof iPad. I am on a 6 and with the Apple trade in of £190 it means my iPad mini 6 has ‘only’ cost me £100 a year over 3 years. New one similar price, bigger storage and RAM… and current folio case fits it. Almost a no brainer.

The camera hasn’t moved on the Mini, has it? So they didn’t need to make it incompatible with the Pencil 2, unless of course something has changed there to fix the jelly scrolling.

Thats a good deal. Right now I just checked and the trade in value at bestbuy and it makes no sense in my case. They are offering me 185 dollars for a mini 6, cellular with 256gb with no marks on the screen, while if I had the base mini with wifi, they would give me 260 dollars as a trade in.

I am on the fence. I have an iPad mini 6 and have used it extensively for the last 3 years. I never really had an issue with Jelly scrolling, but when I look for it I can see it. The increase to 8gb RAM is nice and since I have the base 64gb version, 128gb would be a nice upgrade as well. It is a modest incremental upgrade, but would add a few years to the lifespan of the mini if I upgraded. Apple is offering $230 trade-in which is not too bad for the base model with 3 years of use and battery drain.

Exactly ... I would take it!

(I am sorry Student of Life... that is crazy isn't it for the lower spec to be more trade in!)

Really? Wow! I got $350 last night for my 256 Mini 6 (WiFi) last night from Best Buy. That's what pushed me over the edge to upgrade. I'd have passed too if I was offered $185. That's nuts, especially for one with cellular too.
