I experienced this last weekend. I went to northern Wisconsin and caught off guard when my iPhone suddently showed AT&T in stead of T-Mobile at the to so I can confrim this has happened to me.

They roam on AT&T in some areas but they don't have roaming access to the entire AT&T network footprint. My phone switches to AT&T in some parts of northern SC when traveling to Myrtle Beach but in some remote areas of Eastern NC where AT&T has voice and Edge service, Tmobile goes to 'no service'. Also roaming data is capped at 50 or 100MB per billing cycle depending on your plan and the speeds are severely throttled even when it shows AT&T "4G".

Are you sure these plans are available for iPhones? Cuz when I went to "Shop Prepaid Phones" and filtered for iOS, I got this:

why are you going through all that extra work?

Just get a SIM, activate the $60 plan, pop it into your iPhone....and your good....obviously AT&T isn't going to feed its customers Prepaid Plans and tell them to switch...they would rather have iOS users on Postpaid so they can make more money from them...I have used GoPhone smartphone plans in the past just like i described above on my iPhone 4 in the past, now will be doing it again on my iPhone 5. its not an issue.

Can someone educate me on the pros and cons of using a GoPrePaid iphone?

I was thinking about the $40 option. 500 minutes. Do I still get free nights and weekends?

The way I see, I can't see any reason why someone would get a regular iphone data plan with the GoPrePaid option available.

What extra work?

Are you sure? Perhaps describe the exact steps in "Just get a SIM, activate the $60 plan".

will let you know step by step in a two weeks, I have ordered my SIM from eBay as soon as it comes in ill be going to the link below to activate my SIM and also ill be putting in just 1111111111111111 as my IMEI (its what store employees put in when they dont know the phone customer will use as default - I've worked at a store before) and let the system auto detect my real IMEI, will it matter to AT&T? no, they will not cancel my account, I've had my GoPhone plan same way on my iPhone 4 for over a year in the past.

Except you're then saddled with a spotty 4G network and EDGE everywhere else.

It depends on your location. I typically get LTE speeds, but I usually get 4G. I have never gotten EDGE anywhere.

Most people actually need minutes.
Port phone number over to Google Voice and use Talkatone/GV Phone for additional calls over data. This is an easy solution for those concern with minutes or need more minutes.

It's works but it's not an easy solution. Voip is not as clear as a cell call and is useless when there is no data or weak data coverage.

Also postpaid is eligible for discounts whereas none is available for a prepaid account.

There is no postpaid discount that will give you a discount that will make your plan as cheap as the prepaid one.

Unless you're talking about discounts on phones...

I am picking an iphone 5 tomorrow. How would I go about getting this plan for it? I currently have an iphone 4. Will I be able to go into my local AT&T store and get a nano sim and get this plan activated?

Yes. If you go into an AT&T store with your iPhone 5 they will give you the SIM card free of charge and will set you up on the plan as well.

I will be moving to this plan from straight talk when I get a LTE device. No point switching while I'm still using an iphone 4. We shall see what the 5s brings, excited to get ATT LTE with reasonable terms, it is quite good in my area.

Great, thank you! You never know with these providers. "No no we can't do that" etc.

Just to let everyone know I am now running this plan on my new iphone 5. No unlockit.nz needed either. At&t set it all up over the phone.

Can you tell us if these features work:
- Personal HotSpot
- LTE (& Can you share a Speedtest app screen shot of speed?)
- MMS
- Visual Voicemail

Can you tell us if these features work:
- Personal HotSpot - Asks me to set up via 611 or online
- LTE (& Can you share a Speedtest app screen shot of speed?) - Ping 113. DL 2.55Mbps. Upload 1.25mbps. On '4G'
- MMS - Not working yet, should though.
- Visual Voicemail - Don't use it and don't know how to.

Looks like I may have to download the apn settings afterall to get mms working.

that is some super poor "4G"....DL 2.55Mbps...and UL 1.25Mbps...do you have LTE turned on? maybe need to switch APN though to get faster speeds.

Yes I thought the same. Shall I try unlockit.nz?

MMS is now working. Personal hotspot is not supported on prepaid.

ya try the "AT&T LTE" APN and see if you get better data speeds.

I am getting varied results from anywhere between 1.99 and 3.55 DL. No real change after installing the new apn profile.

What kind of results should I be expecting?

maybe its your area...you should be getting 10Mbps+......try doing speed test elsewhere....does LTE symbol show?

Yea it might be. No just the 4g symbol. When im in area where I get LTE I will do another speedtest and update.

Doesn't it say that the speeds will be limited using this prepaid plan?

I'm sure they will limit the speeds but not to the point where they are below 10Mbps....thats just ridiculous....I get 3-9Mbps on my Straight Talk AT&T SIM....all around Chicago, IL

----------

Can we get some speed tests going people? I'm sure the member couple posts above isnt the only one on the GoPhone $60 plan....lets see some AT&T Prepaid 4G and LTE Speeds!

AT&T has always had limited speeds on the GoPhone plans. They do that to try and push people to post paid. They are not going to allow the same speeds people are getting on a cheaper pre paid.

I'll be watching to see what people are getting as well. I get way faster speeds on T-Mobile.

There must be a soft cap on the GoPhone plan.
