How did you get LTE working? Any settings need changing etc? I have yet to experience it.

Ok, so that I understand this correctly, this is only up to 2gb. What happens after 2gb of data is consumed? Secondly, I have a family plan at the moment with grandfathered everything, but the cost for two lines is 189 with a discount. Obviously this would be better at two individual lines, but still intrigued at what happens after 2gb. Is this GoPhone working off the same exact infrastructure as provided by ATT for PostPaid subscribers?

I dont understand the difficult part...it clearly states on the site, after 2GB data runs out you will either have option to enroll another 1GB for $10 or live without data....2GB is a lot, you have to be watching movies/videos all the time to be consuming over 2GB...like for me where ever I go I have everyones WiFi passwords saved so my iPhone automatically connects saving me tons of data each month. IF your data usage is below 3GB/month ($70 Total/month) then it makes sense for you to switch, otherwise keep paying the $189 for both lines and hold onto that Unlimited data.

I use data for:
- At least 30-70 miles weekly GPS via Google Maps
- Stream music 1-2hours weekly via Tune in Radio or Pandora
- Check ton of emails
- Make VoIP calls (1-2hours weekly)
- send photos, iMessage and even update small apps via Cellular data.

Total = I use about 700MB-1.5GB/month....which is amazing for me. I think 2GB will be just perfect. IF i need i know i have the option for additional 1GB.

Ok, so today I went to my local AT&T and asked them.

About keeping my number, just need to find my account number and the pin. They'll do the rest.

Once the plan is activated, I'll need to put $60 on my account every 30 days to keep it running.

They told me that once my number is transfered, they will charge me a one-time $26 activation fee.

I'm now feeling sad about Straight Talk. Got it a year ago, and I paid for the SIM (about 15-20 + shipping). It uses AT&T's network (I heard they're not selling AT&T sims anymore).

I use about 1.5GB per month, and my current speeds are 2-4 mbps.

What do you guys think?

um..do it online and then call in to port your number...the reps are just ripping you off on the $26 FEE...other members here have said they even got a free sim...

I dont know how much you pay every month but last month i was not able to find any straight talk refills on eBay that were cheap, ended up paying $49.98, to me thats deal breaker...I would keep straight talk if I was still able to get refills for $35-$42....but for additional few dollars If i can get 2GB unthrottled data + LTE...VVM...thats more worth it to me.

Also I noticed Straight Talk no longer lets me Text International numbers....in the past it used to but for the past 4.5months I have not been able to...and I think that all happened because of their $60 International plan.

AT&T PRO's:
- 2GB LTE Data
- Visual Voice Mail
- MMS (working out of the box)
- International Texting (Unlimited)
- Once jailbreak for iOS 7 is out, we will be able to Tether again using TetherMe :D

Cons vs Straight Talk:
- $10-$12 more for those that will be refilling/topping up via AT&T (Go with Callingmart.com as I said before there you can save $3-$10 easily every month, just keep a look out for their 10% off coupons on their Facebook page)

Hmm they didn't charge me an activation fee, I even asked them and they said there was none for prepaid.

ST cheap sims seem to be gone, on ebay they are $49 to $59 (why a $45 card is more than face value I have no idea). If you buy right from ST they are $48 and change out the door, where if you buy go phone minutes online or from the kiosk they are $60 out the door (taxes included) making it only $12 more for go phone. I think getting the cards from callingmart are usually always at least $57, and I know I got 2 $60 minute refills from a vendor for $39 each, although he raised the price soon after.

ST was just too much of a trade off IMO, I dealt with them before the $60 go phone plan because there wasn't anything else out there, but now there is.

Where do I get the sim?

Emm I pay 45 + tax, (about 48) at Walmart.

Noticed the same about International SMS, but I don't really need them.

Same story with MMS, I use iMessage/WhatsApp/Line

I don't really need Voice Mail either, never used it.

What I'll be getting is a few more MB's of data at high speeds but not unlimited anymore (Straight Talk throttles at around 1.5 GB and then gives low 3G speeds, but not 2G). Still, I rarely use more than 1.5 GB in a month.

That data, even when I'm not under LTE coverage, I guess is better than Straight Talk's.

With ST, I never ping less than 150 MS and the speeds are between 1 MB (peak hours) and 4 MB. The upload speeds are usually around 0.30 and never more than 1MB

I'm afraid my iPhone will consume more data with LTE.. I mean, it must be tasty....

StraightTalk was never unlimited. They just started throttling recently it seems, but I read about people getting axe'd from the service or getting calls after going over 2GB.

Where do I get the sim?

You can either call ATT and have them mail you one, or you can go to any store and they will just give you one. I've never been charged for one, but I don't know if they are supposed to. You can then have a corporate store port you over, although this can be a pain and it might be easier to just call ATT over the phone after you obtain a sim.

I may do this, I'm currently on Tmo but the lack of LTE where I live and Edge speeds at work are pushing me away and I want to make sure I get the proper work flow here

- Pay off my iPhone 5 (bought from Tmo) and request an unlock
- Once unlocked, buy this http://www.amazon.com/AT-Nano-SIM-Card-iPhone/dp/B009DRLCXK and activate it online
- Contact ATT and port my Tmo number over to the ATT number
- Ported complete, pay off any remaining fees to Tmo
- Enjoy LTE coverage

Looks good aside from the sim. Doesn't seem to be a go phone sim. I would reccomend going to an att corporate store for the sim. Att will also likely need to know the imei of your device in order for you to get LTE service.

Thats pricy SIM...go to a AT&T store they will most likely give you a free one as other members have said. I have one sitting around so I'm going to activate that once my current cycle is over with Straight Talk.

I am pretty sure GoPhone SIM's aren't specific....as long as the SIM isn't activated it can be used on GoPhone or Contract plan.

Go phone Sims that come with a go phone will not work on other phones. They are locked to that go phone.

Anyone else here that has signed up yet? I have GoPhone $60 since yesterday on an iPhone 5 with iOS6. LTE working great, text etc. but I cannot enable FaceTime over Cellular.
Says the account is missing the feature. Two out of three AT&T support people said it should work but didn't have a solution ready. Now escalated to backoffice. Thing is, there are conflicting reports out there.
In one AT&T press release from November 8th it says FT will be enabled on all tiered data plans within 8-10 weeks. Another press release from this year says FT will be enabled on unlimited plans also by year end 2013.
Given that GoPhone is tiered data it should have been enabled already.
Anyone out there with FT/cellular on GoPhone?

strange...well I've never bought a GoPhone per say, I've always bought a SIM from eBay or just went into a store and asked for a SIM and later activated it my self, so never ran into that whole "Specific GoPhone SIM" issue.

Did you have to change any APN settings etc? I am still not getting LTE coverage, only 4G.

No, LTE came right up after the first reboot with the AT&T SIM. No settings changed. Couple minutes later the new carrier update 14.2 came in but didn't change anything noticeably other than the emergency alerts feature.

Actually the phone must have gotten provisioned automatically with the right APNs because I had it on T-Mobile before with their APN settings.

It was all plug and plug except for the FaceTime issue

The people here at my local ATT is telling me that this prepaid plan doesn't have LTE. Is that true? I know most employees here don't know **

Statement is incorrect. LTE is included in that plan.

It's right on their website: Quote "Limited 4G LTE availability in select markets. LTE is trademark of ETSI. 4G speeds not available everywhere."

Well I just tried getting a sim at a corporate store in a major city and the salesman said they don't give out or sell sim cards but that you have to buy the gophone plan so that he can activate the sim. I was told that I couldn't active a sim over the phone. Maybe that was said so that the salesman could get some kind of sales commission, I dunno. Seemed very bogus and I'll be writing the ATT corporate folks to write my experience.

Just go to a Apple store and ask for an AT&T Sim. They literally just hand them to you...
