If anyone is curious, the loyalty deal for iPhone 8 256gb is $399.99 and they throw in a case.

Sounds to me that the iPhone X discount deal is worth it only if you can avoid having to pay the $20 monthly access line fee--from what I've read so far, looks like the only folks who can avoid the fee are those who are on non-grandfathered unlimited data plans.

Has anyone who's not on an unlimited plan successfully able to get the discounted iPhone X deal without having to pay the access fee for the duration of the 2-year contract?

Yup. Access fee does not change on unlimited choice and plus. I finally abandoned my grandfathered plan about a year ago because it was cheaper to go to plus with data hogs in the family (even after losing my FAN discount). I picked up tethering as well!

Did anyone get this by calling in? I tried twice and made no progress. I tried to do it online... but the loyalty chat department isn't open right now? Of course one person I spoke to in retention said loyalty and retention are the same department.

It's through chat. Close your browser. Count to 10. And try again.

They increase the access fee to $40 for each phone for 2 years. You are not saving money, you are actually paying more...they are just giving $300-$400 off the phone upfront. By the end of the 2 years, you paid $100 plus more for the phone.

Not true if you are on Unlimited Choice or Plus. There is absolutely no change to your fees/cost. See above.

Has anyone here who has a mobile share plan been able to get this deal without line charge going from $15 to $40?

On the slickdeals thread there was a person who was promised that but then had to fight the bill.

Bought two 8s's. Wife dropped her old one in the toilet. Son wanted a 7 for Christmas. Saved about $750!

Is chat only available during the week? I logged on, went to "contact us" and it says "we're sorry, chat isn't available for wireless support".

edit: maybe not through business anyway . . .

edit II: connected to chat through personal side of wireless. they said chat que was long and they would forward to a call. they call and then I'm just transferred around by different people I can't understand and wind up with "warranty department" Now original chat guy says he will transfer to supervisor.

edit III: few minutes go by and get this:
Desirae-Supervisor: Thank you for getting me involved. Let’s go ahead and start looking at some options that will absolutely meet your needs today.
Me: ok

then I get: Thank you for chatting with us today. The agent has left this conversation. Please continue to browse our website and use our self-service options.

That's frustrating!

So basically this deal is worth it only for someone already on or looking to switch to Unlimited Choice or Plus plans--oh well, bummer for me since my overall monthly bill is lower when on Mobile Share vs Unlimited Choice or Plus.

I can't beat the price I'm getting on Unlimited Plus with 4 people in the family. My daughters killed me every month when I had the Grandfathered unlimited and they were on metered data.
From the sound of it, that seems to be the general consensus over at slickdeals.

I just got the iPhone X 64GB for $549 + Tax! All I had to do was commit to a 2 year contract and pay for the phone up front, but my monthly costs don't change. What a great deal! My experience was slightly different as I started with chat and requested the loyalty department and they said that department was only available over the phone. Once they called, the process was exactly as others have said. They didn't say anything about a case or headphones, and I didn't push it.

Update: I called this morning just to check on the status of my order and they offered me 2 free iPhone 8’s.

Seems that with the purchase of an iPhone X you get an iPhone 8 for free if you open a new phone line with AT&T. Couldn’t take advantage of it as I don’t have another family member to add to the plan but thought I’d let others know that if you, say, want to upgrade yourself to an iPhone X and get your 11 year old his/her first iPhone you can wind up with both an iPhone X 256GB and an iPhone 8 for $699.

Hmmm, got off with chat a little while ago and they would not combine the bogo with the discounted purchase with 2 year contract. He said it was a separate promotion. Sounds like a YMMV situation. Maybe I'll just do the same thing and order two phones and call back later to check the status and see what happens.

Can't do it now, however, the chat feature seems to be disabled. Anyone else able to chat right now?

I have a 15gb shared plan that is the same price as Unlimited Choice - but with speed throttlig and only SD streaming quality on the Unlimited Choice plan, it just doesn’t make any sense for me to switch. <sigh>

Is there a line fee for those on grandfathered unlimited data plans? Did anyone with grandfathered unlimited data get this deal?

I know there are new unlimited data plans, but for single line, $60 all taxes included, grandfathered is still a better deal for me.

SD streaming quality can easily be cancelled by you.

So basically you’re just going to pay a $20 higher per line fee(unless you have an unlimited plan)?

A lot of people with non-unlimited mobile share plans are going to be quite disappointed when they realize this....AT&T is not in the habit of being reasonably priced.

Yeah, there was a one day delay on being offered the 2 free iPhone 8's for getting the 2 discounted iPhone X's.

I called 12 hours after placing my order because I hadn't received an email from AT&T, got someone from the regular Sales department (not the Loyalty department). That person helped me with tracking and then mentioned to me that I qualified for the 2 free iPhone 8's if I opened a new line for each.

So....I'm guessing that regular CSR's are incentivized to move the free iPhone 8 promo and push it on consumers who call them. Loyalty people have a different agenda. So try calling 611, ask about tracking your iPhone X, and then ask "hmm, do you have any promotions if I want to open a new phone line?" See what happens.

Grandfather's get nothing. It's your punishment for being a Grandfather. (I know this because I was one for forever until giving it up this past summer to save a ton of money because my teens were eating up their 5GB of data like swine at the trough).

AT&T is going to do everything it can to get you to move to one of their new Unlimited Plan's. Yes, it's a better deal for you as a single line, so keep it. But know there is a calm inner peace found from not having to stress over the damned thing. I used to worry every time a new iPhone was released that they'd kill the grandfathered plan, no worries anymore.

Oh, and I got $1000 for my iPad's Grandfathered Unlimited Data Plan SIM card. $1000 for a SIM card. Then added the iPad to my Unlimited Plus plan for $20 a month. For the win.
