Yeah, there was a one day delay on being offered the 2 free iPhone 8's for getting the 2 discounted iPhone X's.
I called 12 hours after placing my order because I hadn't received an email from AT&T, got someone from the regular Sales department (not the Loyalty department). That person helped me with tracking and then mentioned to me that I qualified for the 2 free iPhone 8's if I opened a new line for each.
So....I'm guessing that regular CSR's are incentivized to move the free iPhone 8 promo and push it on consumers who call them. Loyalty people have a different agenda. So try calling 611, ask about tracking your iPhone X, and then ask "hmm, do you have any promotions if I want to open a new phone line?" See what happens.

Grandfather's get nothing. It's your punishment for being a Grandfather. (I know this because I was one for forever until giving it up this past summer to save a ton of money because my teens were eating up their 5GB of data like swine at the trough).
AT&T is going to do everything it can to get you to move to one of their new Unlimited Plan's. Yes, it's a better deal for you as a single line, so keep it. But know there is a calm inner peace found from not having to stress over the damned thing. I used to worry every time a new iPhone was released that they'd kill the grandfathered plan, no worries anymore.
Oh, and I got $1000 for my iPad's Grandfathered Unlimited Data Plan SIM card. $1000 for a SIM card. Then added the iPad to my Unlimited Plus plan for $20 a month. For the win.
People that buy that have to be INSANE data consumers to make it worth it to them
And bare the risk of something att could easily drop or clamp down on somehow
