I use a cradlepoint MBR 1400LPE-AT. It works great!
Brandon, may I ask you, you use a regular prepaid at&t iPad 29.99 sim in this router? Does att say something about improper sim usage or tethering?
It is very important to me, I have ipad unlimited plan and don't eant to loose it. Really appreciate you answer.

I use an AT&T prepaid 29.99 iPad unlimited data plan. The grandfathered one from back in 2010. I have had no e-mails from AT&T about usage or tethering of any kind. I've been using it since around last February in this setup with no issues whatsoever. I just use standard ATT broadband APN settings.

As for the review, I can do some tests for you guys but it will have to be later today, or early tomorrow since I'm out doing stuff this afternoon.

Does the AT&T GoPhone Unite Express work with the iPad unlimited data plan? I know many people use the Unite Pro but the Unite Express is cheaper and they both have LTE.

I'm curious about this as well, as I bought the Unite Express in hopes of acquiring an unlimited iPad plan, but ended up getting a Verizon plan.

You'll be fine. Been tethering no problems.

did you use an iPad to tether? or you are using a dedicate mobile hotspot?

if iPad, how did you enable tethering?

technically ATT do NOT allow tether on this plan, but the fact is (based on my experience and online sources), ATT does NOT monitor activity on those plans at all. they just 'allow' you do anything you want.
maybe because of the quantity of this plans, it was only offered for like <60 days, and really not many people have it now

I've used in the past a unite pro but now I use my rmini jb with terherme/mywi.

See, I've gotten 80mbps down and 60mbps up on my VZW UDP, also through the Asus AC-68R, and range and stability are incredible. I'm still just not seeing what the advantages of the cradlepoint are. I'll likely get even higher speeds when I live in a large metropolitan city. I also get WiFi AC 1300mbps in-network speeds when I'm in the same room as my Asus.

Casey-

What Verizon plan are you on for unlimited data? Cell plan + unlimited data ($50 now)?

I bought a Verizon UDP from a seller on Howard Forums (for $500), and the plan is $45 before tax/fees, and about $49 all said and done. The contract expires in Nov 2016, so Verizon cannot raise my bill by $20 until then.

I'm currently living full time in a travel trailer, so if that changes and I move to a city in the near future, I'll probably sell this plan to someone else. The $500 price I paid makes me seriously question how people are selling these iPad UDP's on AT&T for >$1000. Perhaps I just haven't looked long enough, but the Verizon coverage has been good enough that I don't need a separate AT&T plan to complement it.

TrueFan31- I did the same thing with an iPad 3 on AT&T, but I found MyWi crashed often, needed to be reboot or device restarted. My Unite seems to not need reboots as often. How reliable is your MyWi?

Yeah $49 for Verizon is a good price. I use Verizon for my iPhone 6S with a granfathered unlimited data plan.. It's expensive ... But I have two iPad unlimited data plans, that I use for home internet, one for the road.

I find Verizon's LTE are way faster than AT&T LTE. 40+ down (Verizon) vs 5 down (AT&T- Unite Pro). Not to mention Verizon's coverage is better.

That's why I'm considering a Cradlepoint MBR1400 (home use) for my AT&T unlimited iPad.. Curious to see how much better the speeds would be (5 down).

Brandon- Do you think an external antenna paired to a Cradlepoint MBR1400 would provide better results than 68 down? I'd be totally happy with 68 down.

After the hike that's $70 vs. $30 per month. If you're housed up cable providers would be competitive with the Verizon plan but not able to touch the ATT one, which is why they're more valuable.

Say you want to go this route for the long haul and pay $1200 up front for the iPad plan, that's a $700 difference from what you paid, but simple math dictates that the plan would pay that difference off in 17 1/2 months, after which point your bill would be $40 a month cheaper saving you about $480 over the Verizon plan for a year or $2400 over a 5 year period.

However if you're on the road in a travel trailer and situated in the western states the premium for Verizon would be negligible as the coverage with Verizon is better particularly in western states in remote areas.

I have both I use tetherme as default because it's native basically. Mywi is just a backup. Tetherme works well. Once in a while I'll need to toggle personal hotspot off/on but I'm ok with that.

I'm sorry I've been MIA on getting the review up, I moved recently and couldn't track down my netgear base antenna for the Unite Pro hotspot. I've located it now though, I'll have a results comparison up by tomorrow evening!

My tethering solution.

I think it's a 6620l USB tethered to an Asus n66 or ano th er Asus router that supports USB Internet tethering

Ah. Pretty good setup. What kind of speeds you getting?
It's an Asus AC68R ($99 on clearance at Target), and you got the hotspot right. I get 1300mbps in network speeds, and at the remote location I'm in, in NM right now, I get about 25mbps down and up over LTE.

The setup is incredibly stable, and I've left it on for days without needing a reboot. I also have a weBoost Drive 4G-X mounted on the roof, for when I need a boost in signal. (It's in a fiberglass travel camper).

Unite Pro Hotspot. It has two laptops, two tablets, two phones and one nexus tv connected most of the time. Recently I've been streaming HD more than usual, so that definitely drove me above the 250GB range I've been in.

Seems like the prices have been holding from $1100-1300 over the past couple months.

I was expecting a little bit of increased demand with the iPad Pro coming out, but it's been stable surprisingly.
[doublepost=1453318573][/doublepost]East85, how long have you been using your Unite Pro and running up that kind of high data usage? I'm contemplating switching off Comcast to use my Unite Pro connected to my Asus RT-AC66U, but my typical usage is 300gb or so per month. I don't want switch off Comcast if AT&T is going to pull the plan. I've had the $29.99 ULD AT&T plan since the last week it was offered, and I don't want to lose it.

I am thinking about selling mine. I don't use my iPad as much as I should, and it is just $30 I always forget is coming out of my account. If anyone has sold one or bought one, I would like to know more about the process as well.

I sold mine for about $1200. I threw in a 64GB iPad 3 with it.

My main concern (of course) was getting ripped off. Not so much for the iPad, but the ATT unlimited account.

I set it up so the next monthly renewal occurred right as the auction closed. I switched the iPad to a prepaid VISA and removed my personal info from the account.

The terms were:
I send after payment (PayPal).
The buyer gets to test a fully functional iPad with data service right out of the box.

Once I get a message on eBay that the item meets their expectations, I send the password to the ATT account as a reply.

I also warn the user that the account needs to be updated with new payment info ASAP, as well as notifying them that I am not responsible for changes in ATT policy regarding these plans.

In my case, the sale went thorough without a hitch.

Beware of people making "offers". Every one of the offers sounded shady as hell. The others were really lowball ($385 for the iPad and unlimited account).

I just picked up the Unite Pro for my iPad Unlimited Data Plan and noticed that if I connect to my laptop via the WiFi hotspot iTunes is throttled. If I connect via USB tethering it will download at full speed. I was hoping to purchase the DC 113a cradle for the Unite Pro and connect it directly to my Apple Time Capsule via ethernet, but the cradle has been discontinued in the US. Does the RT-AC66U work with with the Unite Pro without needing any special firmware via USB tethering? I found various other forum posts on other websites with nothing but problems trying to get the USB tethering to work appropriately with Asus routers.

I have had a couple times where it seems like Verizon is trying to throttle my usage with YouTube and sometimes just general Google searching, so I turn on Pritunl (my VPN), and all usage is back to blazing fast normal.

I updated my firmware on my RT-AC66U to the latest AsusWRT-Merlin version available (380.57) and everything seems to be working with fine with Unite Pro tethered via USB. I unplugged my Comcast cable modem as a test, and so far, so good. Speedtest.net speeds on my I-7 desktop connected via ethernet to the RT-AC66U on AT&T are about 40 down 16 up with the Unite Pro perched on a shelf in a closet with no external antennas. Be sure to make sure your Unite Pro is set up to never hibernate, etc.

The real test will be to see if my wife starts complaining about the internet connection or speeds in our home. I'm not telling her that I disconnected the cable modem but will "fix it" by reconnecting the modem and go back to WAN as the Primary connection if the Unite Pro doesn't do the trick. I have 20 devices showing up on my network, so I have my doubts that the Unite Pro will be an acceptable substitute, but I hope it will.

My relevant settings after clicking on 3G/4G on the USB Applications page are:

Dual Wan Tab

Enable Dual Wan - On
Primary Wan - USB
Secondary Wan - Wan
Dual Wan Mode - Failover
leave remaining settings as they are except allow ping to internet and choose a webpage (i.e. www.google.com)

My relevant settings on the Internet Connection Tab for USB Modem/USB Tethering are:

Wan Type - USB
Enable USB Modem - On
Select USB Device - USB Modem
APN Configuration - Automatic
Telecommunications Standard - WCDMA (UMTS)
APN Service(optional) - broadband
Leave everything else EMPTY til you get to
Authentication - None
USB Adapter - Auto
USB MTU - 1500
