Maybe I'm missing something, but how do we know that AT&T Wifi Calling will be restricted to certain plans? I haven't seen anything official from either AT&T or Apple. While I'm not going to argue with you that AT&T is forcing people into their NEXT plans, I think that any idea that NEXT will be required for Wifi Calling is, at least at this point, conjecture.

You are correct. Nothing has been announced at all from AT&T on the subject. My initial post about it was simply me saying I BET they try and do something like this when it officially launches, because they have done it in the past.

It says not available in my area (Houston)

I think HD Voice may be required in your area to activate Wi-Fi calling.

Anyone in an area (where the area code is from) without HD Voice that was able to activate Wi-Fi calling?

Quad City area here (Davenport, IA) and nothing yet. I get the agreement page then "Oops" not available yet.

Edit: I just gave it another try this morning and it worked. This is huge because I have a 150+ year old house and the reception inside is nil unless you are standing near a window.

I've been able to activate it today in NJ, but I dont get "AT&T WiFi".

I'm not in an HD Voice area either. I have 3 circles of signal, maybe that's why it isn't working?

Seems sporadic for me... I thought that when it was enabled as long as I was on wifi it would prefer it... But if I enable airplane mode and wifi then it connects perfectly. Disable airplane mode and sometimes it stays other times it doesn't. Weird.

No, AT&T has it configured to prefer cellular and only fail back to Wifi when signal quality is "poor". Opposite of T-Mobile.

So what kind of quality will it be? Is it HD Voice? Or will it sound like standard current 4g over wifi?

Yes and HD Voice is not required. I'm from Abilene, TX and I'm on business in Honolulu, neither which have HD Voice, and I've got Wifi Calling working on my 6+.

Wonder what will happen when you get back home, assuming the service is not there yet, what the phone will do. I wonder if the feature will remain on but not available or will it turn off the setting. I'm guessing just not work but remain active.

I'm from Abilene too, and got it working this morning.

It's now live in Los Angeles.
I tried yesterday and it wasn't available. Tried again this morning and I was able to get through the whole setup.
Will this only work if my cell signal is low or anytime I'm on wifi?

Where in Los Angeles are you located. I'm in the valley ATM and nothing here. Nothing in Agoura area either.

Has anyone with unlimited data been able to enable this? I read in another thread that it is for shared data plans only.

Someone said only when the cellular signal is low or nonexistent or in airplane mode, which would match up with what I'm seeing...

Yesterday, Wi-Fi calling would not enable. Today, it let me complete the process. I'm in CT.

I have got to stop watching this thread. Each time someone posts, I try on my side and nothing. I don't even need the feature because my signal is good but it bugs me to not be able to activate. Not mad, not sad, just wish I could turn it on.

Mine didn't either so I thought good signal strength is good so it doesn't think it needs it. Then I switched to airplane mode and turned wifi on and the wifi wording next to the carrier. Now when I turn off airplane mode, the wifi word stays even though I have good cell strength.
