People say “just replace your battery”.

There is another factor. Does Apple guarantee the water resistance of iPhones with replaced batteries under IP68 certification under IEC standard 60529? Likely not since they don’t warranty against water problems on the original phone. You can only get a water related replacement under AppleCare+.

That is another reason I try to maintain the longevity of the battery.
Does Apple guarantee the water resistance anyways?

My Desay is still 103% after 23 cycles.

It is the battery lottery. You can get 100% out of the box or 102-104% out of the box.
Yeah seen both good and bad things about all manufacturers. really is all luck I guess

Might go up. My XS did that a few times.. caught it at 97% one time then at 98% - stayed 98% for like a year then sudden drop to 92% then 95% after a while .. then started going up and down the 80s and I stopped caring. Until the iOS 17 update it went down to 73% all of a sudden and I freaked out, then remained at 75% while I was convinced I had to upgrade if I won't replace the battery because the "numbers say so".. My 15P 32 Cycles 100% but it's obvious to me the 75% XS battery still lasts longer and feels more stable. Just replace when you feel your battery is no longer holding charge enough for your needs, and forget about the numbers.

I hope Apple would be kind enough to move the option to change "Battery Optimization/80%" out to the battery usage screen so I don't have to see "Battery Health" in my face every time I want to change the setting.

This is all I have in my Settings-General-About

seen diff readings on the max capacity every time you plug in, sometimes more sometimes less. YMMV but weird
Short answer: Because apps such as coconutBattery report only the data at that moment (shared by the OS). It’s also why Apple’s own algorithm (i.e., Settings->Battery->Battery Health) is a better estimate. Additionally, when using an app like coconutBattery, wait until the app states “Fully charged” and no longer displays a charge rate before noting the max capacity. In many instances, the charge level will eventually climb above the initial (i.e., captured on app launch) maximum capacity.

Long answer:

Time to sell it and buy a new phone.

Seriously this isn't bad. Just use your phone and stop worrying about it. If it's faulty and goes to 80% then Apple will replace it.

Mine is also at 99%. I've charged nightly to 80% only on an 18W charger since I got it on launch day. The phone still gets pretty hot while charging (not enough for me to accuse Apple of selling a brick of fire, but more than any other iPhone I've owned). I don't have the expertise to know if it's "normal", but it doesn't feel like it 😅

If your phone warm when in the morning when you unplug from the charger?

Thing I noticed with our two 15PM's that both have Desay battery but other was weaker from the start is that the one with stronger battery is actually even improving after about 15 charge cycles while the other has gotten only weaker after the same amount of charge cycles. Weaker battery also during use takes deeper drops in FCC than the stronger one which practically stays about the same always. So definitely looks that these are noticeable difference in quality too.
My weaker one still show 100% health but at this rate not for long.

try charging in front of a fan. sounds ridiculous but it will keep temp down. mine gets hot too had every iphone since launch and def hottest. but to be honest android phones ive had get even hotter and they been just fine

Again, this is almost all due to what your actual starting capacity is in comparison to the rated capacity of 4441 mAh. If your actual starting capacity was very close to 4441 mAh, it will drop to 99% more quickly.
For example, my 14 PM had a maximum battery capacity of 4559 mAh while the standard rated capacity of the 14 PM is 4323 mAh. Since the battery percentage does not show 105% but rather 100%, it will sit at 100% until its current rated capacity goes below 4280 mAh.

I bought my iPhone 15 Pro Max on October 10, 2023 and today I checked the cycle counts and battery health its reduced to 99%. WTF!!

Having 30 cycle counts in 36 days isn't heavy by any means. 95% cases
Is my battery faulty? Should I show this to service center?

I remember with my old iPhone 12 Pro Max, it took more than an year for the battery health to reach 98%. I immediately charge the battery once its power is less than 40%. Because apple recommended not to keep the power lower than 40% for long battery life. I mostly charge up to 95-97%. There were only 2 occasions when I put it on charging and slept for couple of hours and realized that the battery was 100%

Just for comparison my release day 14 Pro 1TB is still at 100% and that gets used heavily for calls

Just charge at 5w overnight. You don't need the fast charging. It doesn't matter if it takes 1 hour or 6 hours if you charge overnight, it's going to be full when you wake up regardless.

First, that percentage doesn’t go linear. The health is merely an estimate based on a range of parameters. Battery simply don’t degrade linearly. That’s not how those batteries work.

Second, 36 cycles trading 1% health figure? My iPad battery has 1136 cycles and health sitting at 87% according to Apple technician. Probably sounds impressive to you but I already can feel the battery is dropping fast on daily use.

OK I didn't know those figures are not 100% reliable

1%...? I wouldn't worry about it.
I wouldn't have worried if that 1% was after an year of usage. This is something that never happened with my previous iPhones (XS Max and 12 PM). But from my past experience I've seen that once the battery loose 1% health it starts degrading faster.
