  • Same as before, pretty good

  • Seems worse

  • Much worse

  • Better than before

Indexing would explain short term excessive battery drain. It has been days now since the update and I continue to see greatly reduced battery performance.

iPhone 6S Plus.

Same, I expect poor battery life for a few days but this has been 4 days and its still really poor.

Was going to install this until I read another SE user say that it tanked their battery life. That must mean something is very wrong. I can usually get two days of use between charges on my SE, the battery is great.

Unfortunately I initiated the download before I saw this thread, and there was no way to stop it once I had accepted the download. I even rebooted my phone, but iOS knew to continue downloading the 1.86GB update lol. Now it says whenever iOS is connected to power between 1-5am, it will auto-update. I could just not charge it during those times but ugh is there any way to erase the install? Tell it no? Refuse to update? I don't want it! No no no! Lol.

I installed 11 yesterday on my iPhone 7 and my iPad Pro 9.7...they were both on all day today...nothing heavy duty just websurfing, email. No problems and both currently around 70%...stats are standby 19 hrs, usage 4 hrs.

As usual, there’s couple of items the puzzle me with the new OS but I’m sure will get used to them. One change stands out...the iPhone screen for entering my passcode is so light, I can barely see the characters...what in the world was Apple thinking?

But is this usually the case on first release?
Do they fix it in next update?

Well sometimes.
I remember I had similar issues in the past on .0 Release.
To me it feels that they focus on optimising the first release for the newest iPhone (iP8 and iPX this time)
Hopefully they will fix battery drain on .1 or .2

Getting a noticeable battery drain compared to iOS 10. I'm not using it differently in any way. This is on an iPhone 7

Major drainage in iOS 11 for me. And I’ve been using iOS since 3.0, never has the battery died this fast with me on any previous version.

Compared with 10.3.3 where I could easily be at 40 or 50% at the end of the day, I’m not even able to last till the afternoon with 11. When actively using, i can literally see the % dropping every few minutes, especially in Messages.

In addition to generally worse battery life, which I suspect is temporary or until I tweak a few settings, the battery percentage being displayed on my Mini 4 is totally out of whack!

It'll say 80%, I put it down for 5 minutes and it goes to sleep and I pick it up again, and it says 65%. 30 minutes later with no heavy use it jumps from 65% to 40%. I plug it in, it instantly says 70% and charging.

It starting acting this way a couple of days ago. Yesterday I drained it (used it right until it shut off), charged it back up to 100% over night, and rebooted it. I'll see how it does today. So far so good. Battery at 97% with 40 minutes of use and over 5 hours of standby. Seems normal... so far.

Hello,

after upgrading to iOS 11 it needs to charge my iPhone and iPad every day. At iOS 10 I charged them once a week ! I spoke with Apple support and we ran Apple diagnostics but they told me my devices are okay with no issues and this behaviour is expected. I have sent feedback to Apple about this. Anyone else with the same issue ? What can I do now ? What should be my next move ? Even when I don't use the iPhone, battery lasts less than one day.
Any idea could be great.

Thanks

Charging one a week sounds unusual...

It’s normal for the devices to use more power for a period after upgrade, for example re-indexing storage.

iOS 11 includes more powerful photo machine learning IIRC for recognising people, so I’m anticipating quite a bit of behind-the-scenes processing for a while on this as I know I personally have a great many photos on my devices.

Once a week?

You ever use your phone?

I read this too and thought wow... I haven't had once a week charging since my monochrome Nokia back in the day with the extended battery on it, LOL. I think he was referring to iPad. I charge my iPad Mini about once a week. Tho now I think I get a little less life out of each charge, but not a major difference.

Thanks guys,
it was certainly once in a 4-5 days and sometimes once a week. I have iPad for Music and iPhone for calls, mostly.
The fact is now wherever I go it needs to have my charger with me.
So, this issue may be stop after a while, as I understood.
I wish and if not, I hope for a software update.
* Maybe I was just lucky then but now, I cannot handle the every day charging :)

I updated my iPhone 7 Plus (10.3.3) to 11.0 -- what a mistake! I had been happy with battery life, charging it every night. But iOS 11 drained the battery very quickly -- twice as fast. Luckily I had made an archived iTunes backup and just successfully restored to 10.3.3 (with some difficulty). So my advice: wait for 11.1 ... .

Exactly what I want to hear, thank you :)

If you have an archived iTunes backup, to downgrade to iOS 10 see http://osxdaily.com/2017/06/07/how-downgrade-ios-11-beta-ios-10/ (I had to use the optional step of entering Recovery mode ...).

My 6S plus has also suffered the battery issues, but seems to have stabilised somewhat today after 48 hours.

It normally takes a while for the upgrade to process everything. I would let it charge overnight and do it’s thing.
Then if battery usage is not what you expect, I would restore as new device and slowly add back your apps and see what happens.

Well, I managed to inadvertently update my SE after only about 9 hours of trying to avoid it. Massive fail. The battery life doesn’t seem affected though, yet. My eyes on the other hand...wow. The new control center is bad, as well as the lockscreen when listening to music. I don’t think any great UI designers are left at Apple. Forstall is laughing at this Control Center. It’s beyond bad - like thesis stuff in art or tech school where the teacher rips you a new one for being so bad. Think Gordon Ramsey. That’s this new Control Center.

Having bizarre battery and charging issues with 2 iPads (Mini and an Air 2) where the devices stop charging and then drain battery to zero ! Happened twice with the Air2 and once with the Mini, different chargers and cables. Also iPhone6 using much more battery than normal. Never had such issues with any prior iOS (going back to iPhone 3G)
