What do you mean by usage time with screen off? How can you be using it while it's not on?
When you're say playing a podcast or music for 2 hours...in iOS that adds 2 hours to usage time even though the screen has been off for 2 hours.

Again, this might be the experience some have had (on youtube videos or otherwise), but I am pointing out that in my experience with my numerous iPhones (and my iPad), this has not been the case.

And to be clear, I'm no iPhone apologist. After recently switching to Android, I don't see myself returning to the iPhone anytime soon.
It's not about your experience versus anyone else's. It has everything to do with the way iOS indicates battery drain. They calibrate the battery percentage to be higher for longer with a fast drop off.

Let me state again: You see this issue. Every iOS user sees this issue. It's a software issue.

You can look at multiple battery drain tests on Youtube as proof. The iPhone status will display at about 85% to 100% range longer than other phones, then the percentage will drop rapidly below the other phones.

This is on iPads too. Anything iOS. Ever wondered why you can have 15 to 20 minutes of usage and it's still on 99% or 100%? Completely bogus, and not a consistent rate of drainage throughout the whole usage.
I noticed this with my iPad yesterday. It sat at 100% for a good 45mins while using it, as the day went on it began dropping, once it got below 90% it started falling fast. Very odd behaviour, it gives the impression that it's holding its charge well but after it drops out the 90% zone, things get pretty ugly.

Now that you mention this, my last iphone did this. It would spend AGES at 100% before dropping.
I always kept the battery fully charged if i could so i was of the impression that the battery life was much better than it was lol.

Iphones definitely do this.

Yep!

Apple aren't the only ones to do this, this is a phenomenon I first saw on Nokia Symbian phones back in the early 2000s. Everything that I used from Nokia N80, N81, E90 to the 5800XM ,N97 and N8-00, used to do this.

The battery bars would show full for a very long period of time, and then once that 1st one has dropped you'd see a rapid decline.

Speaking of iPad. Usually have the screen on looking at notes. Always nice knowing I have a beefy device.

My #1 pet peeve with Android is services always turning on by itself. I would have mine rooted and use Disable Services. It's like playing Whac-A-Mole. You Greenify an app or disable a service, another one wakes up on its own.

For idle time, iOS rules. I had a hand me down iPad 2 from 2011. On airplane mode, that tablet could last for months on standby. I didn't use it for four months and battery still wasn't drained to 0%. It was 6-years old but battery wasn't degraded much, if at all.

This does not change the fact Apples battery indictor is not linear like Android. Battery life arguments are kind of silly these day, My S8 plus gets through a whole day of heavy usage. For example on Sunday i woke up at 7am to go to the UFC where there was no wifi so i was on 4g/3g all day, by the time i got home at 6pm i was still at 30 percent battery and by the time i went to bed at 10pm and placed it on my charging mat it was on 10 percent. Thats a full day of very heavy usage.

People still use Greenify? Doze took care of all that long ago.

According to some this isn't accurate

Consistently good battery life on year old 7+. My test android units dies within a day. My iPhone can be idle for at least 3. I'm with you though. I do feel like some people really want to like Android that they fudge the evidence. A phone isn't going to be perfect. It's ok that your phone has **** battery if you like it
its not.....over 8 hours with 55% left = not really using the phone......

Most androids have sh*t battery.

Thats just plain wrong! People like you come on here who have zero clue and spread misinformation. Some of the best phones when it comes to battery life are Android phones. When it comes to Screen on time my S8 plus will keep up with the iPhone 8 Plus no problems and is not to far behind on standby time either.

Pixel 2 XL, oneplus 5, Note 8, and iPhone 8+, X are all great, but iPhone X in particular trails slightly.

I don't know dude. I have two android devices and that is my experience. If anything this thread proves that people spread misinformation about the iPhone. I have posted two screenshots with amazing standby and pretty decent usage but people disragrd it. Apparently listening to music, surfing the web and doing work on my phone isn't enough. But I wouldn't be able to do that with my Androids.

I am glad that (if true) Samsung finally put effort in battery life. However, a 3500 mAh
Should beat a 2715 mAh battery.

The Pixel 2XL has a 3520 mAh battery. Remember guys if a phone has a smaller battery but gets better life that phone has better battery life.

Ah yes. That explains it.

Yep amazing battery is amazing.

Why should anyone buying a phone care about how big the battery is?

The iPhone has great battery life i'm not disputing that, i'm disputing your ridiculous claim that Android phones have **** battery life. Also the size of the battery is irrelevant, we are not discussing which OS is more efficient, we are talking about battery life of a phone. If you want to bring efficiency into the equation you then have to look at the advantages these Android phone are getting that causes the extra battery drain like true multitasking. The current crop of Android phones are on par and some like the One plus 5 have well and truly surpassed the iPhone.

I think the battery life debate is going to go away fairly quickly it's been a lot of years since I've had a phone not make it from 0600 to 2300
Yup. Between Qi charging pads everywhere and multi-day battery life AND the fact that everyone has to sleep, battery life isn't much of a concern on the big devices anymore.

I've read that the Pixel 2 (and XL) have stupid good battery life. I've also seen some reviewers say that the iPhone X battery is good not great. From what I understand, OnePlus devices have great battery life as well. While iPhone used to be battery king, these days the hill is quite crowded.

And to echo @Puddled, Android's battery screen gives you screen-on-time usage. iPhone just gives you "usage," which includes screen-on time AND screen-off time when things are running in the background. Those two numbers can't be compared.

iPhone is hardware, and android is software.

Battery life between my S8+ and 8+ are similar. Nothing worth fretting over.
