Alfred Hitchcock Presents is available on Amazon for 1/2 the price

Why would I buy Season 1 of AH Presents for $50+ when it is available on Amazon on DVD for $28

I can watch the DVD's at home, or even better with a friend, and I can rip the DVD's to my laptop for travel, and use QT to make iPod Video-ready copies as well

Someone posted here about hi-res downloads - now those would be worth the $1.99 per episode

Im getting the serious feeling that Apple will kill off iTunes or bring a new program into the picture. They can't (well they could but it would seem silly)sell movies/etc. on a music store for long (not if they keep expanding). My guess is that iLife 06 will bring a new app for video (much like iTunes for music) or maybe an all in one app that combines iPhoto, iTunes, etc into one?

yes but not yet , there is just not enough content on the video side for a dedicated App/Store yet

I was pretty excited about the Conan stuff, until I realized that two of the episodes are $9.99 and the rest are just clips ranging from six to 12 minutes in length but they're still $1.99, too bad. I can think of a few episodes of Conan that I wouldn't mind having that I can't find anywhere else, maybe they'll expand to entire episodes rather than just small clips.

But overall I think it's great that we've got all these extra episodes available! :)

Not for us in Australia :( I wonder how long this will take? It took a lot of kissing up just to get the music store.

i'm not one to trash apple... but this whole video ipod and video on iTMS seems retarded... hopefully it'll all come together in january with a dvr... but until then i can't see why somebody would want to spend 1.99 on a 30 min show to watch on a 2" ipod screen. i guess some people have too much time and money on their hands
It's not about watching videos on your iPod necessarily. It's about watching them at ALL. On your iMac, or your iBook hooked up to TV, or whatever. A 2" screen is a mere novelty to me--and that's how Apple sells it. But being able to catch an episode I missed is a good thing.

(I'd be interested to know how many of Apple's video sales were to people who do NOT have a video iPod.)

Just like buying individual songs for $0.99, what if you don't want all of the episodes? As long as you want fewer than 14 episodes, you come out ahead, and you don't accumulate more discs.

For shows like this, the piecemeal approach works very well since the episodes stand alone and do not form an overarching story. I for one know that I really like maybe about 30% of AHP episodes enough to own them.

Thank you NBC, for understanding enough about the show's demographic to make "The Office" available. The UK version might have made you chuckle, but this new version will make you crap your pants!

It's on tonight.

Most of them, I'd guess. Even though the press treats iTMS video sales as an iPod service.

Who says they need to rename or replace iTunes to sell videos? Everyone already knows they sell videos, there's no need to split off the video function.

In fact, they've specifically tried to keep the video function seamless with their current app. Remember, we're talking about Apple - they want to make it easy and elegant.

Dvr

The fact that they added this content means to me that they want to stick with the iTVS distribution model, and it will not be replaced with a DVR. Apple will either not make a DVR (my guess) or will have the DVR and iTVS coexist somehow.

i think this post hits the point of the ITMS videos. if you want the box sets and/or DVD quality, DO NOT USE THE ITMS.

if you happen to like a few episodes of some show, it's perfect. just a few bucks and you have your favorite knight rider episode. you can watch on your computer, TV, or your ipod, whatever you prefer.

or, you heard all about this "Lost" show that all your coworkers are talking about, so you download the first one to see if it's any good (only $2 after all)...

before you know it: ABC just got you to shell out for the DVD box set of season 1 AND the extra $2 pocket change for the download. (plus you just might download season 2 episodes 1-8 to "catch up" to what's on the TV).

I wish Apple would bring HBO along cause I've been wanting to watch Entourage and Six Feet Under, but I don't have HBO. Plus if they did, I could easily download my favorite episodes of Sex and the City! :D I'm glad they did bring along Law and Order though. That is the best show!

I've noticed some previews are at 640x480...
Is that the size of the download or are they just doubling the size at playback?

If they have 45 mins at 640x480 for 1.99 thats a deal.

Or you could be like me and addicted to lost.
and season 2 hasnt screen in my country yet. so I get some vouchers off eBay and then download from the US store.

I wish they'd make Jay Leno and Conan O'Brian episodes available for iTMS Germany. They used to come on TV here, until they replaced it with some ****** Giga-Internet-TV show that seems to air 24/7, and is as boring as watching paint dry.
Of course thats never going to happen, as there are probably a million legal reasons why that would be difficult, but a man can dream, a man can dream...

Uhh, The Tonight Show and The Late Show DO still come on here in Germany. CNBC, ca. 2100.

Um, are you kidding? The UK version is 10x the US.

I still like/watch the NBC version, but the original was head and shoulders better in every way, unless you are turned off by non-US cultural references.

I haven't seen this mentioned yet, but The Office through the iTMS is in widescreen. Ridiculous the other natively widescreen shows aren't.

Very cool! And my stock certainly seemed to get a nice jolt from the news.

Still though, I have a hard time justifying a purchase for $1.99... but that's probably just 'cause I'm a Netflix subscriber. I was soo tempted to get the next episode of BSG that I hadn't seen, but then I remember I could just wait a couple days and get my DVD from Netflix, then burn it.

I do feel this is a good move by Apple though, and could get really big in the future. The networks just need to stop being stingy with certain shows, like Conan O'Brien, and give us full content at a reasonable price. Clips for $1.99 is OK, but if I could get a whole show at $1.99 I'd jump all over that. And why not? I can purchase full episodes of BSG at $1.99 so it's certainly feasible.

Yeah.....unless you're an American customer of Apple's there doesnt seem much point to the video iPod.

You mean except putting YOUR OWN video content on it?

That's just like the people who saw no point to the iPod when when they didn't have an iTMS available in their country.

All available ONLY on the world's smallest movie player. (Don't get me started on desktop or laptop playback.)
Dang it I want a PMP with a 4" screen. I've seen the iPod with video. It's too small IMHO for watching TV.

This time around, the iPod with video is pretty much an experiment. If it turns out a lot of people buy videos off of the store (and they will, with this newly expanded content) then Apple may eventually make a version of the iPod specifically for portable video in mind (bigger screen, higher resolution, better battery life, more formats...)
