Never seen it in my 30 years of Apple products. For that matter, any product. I've seen more cases that people like to blame the manufacture for their own mishaps.

Oh, come on. Seriously? I received a bent 12.9" straight out of the box from the factory. Never even used it. Sent it back for a refund. I can definitely see someone not noticing it until later.

With every new product release, I still don’t get tired of these posts where someone wants you to believe that their new Apple product was sitting on a table somewhere by itself and it just bent on its own. Never gets old.

Exactly. While these bend reports are alarming because I will have to make sure that I am more careful, they just don’t bend themselves. Some form of pressure has to be applied, either by someone at the factory or the owner. Normal use, with care, should not cause a bend. That being said, it does seem easy to bend, or at least warp, so I’ll have to be extra careful.

But if someone at the factory bends it before you receive it...then you receive it from the factory bent.

Of course, I understand that. I think the point is, it’s not going to bend by normal use. I have AppleCare. I hope that would cover it if I accidentally bend it. The people at the Apple Store, in my experience, are so nice and helpful as long as you are polite and friendly. The OP should just take it into an Apple Store.

He tried so hard that he ended up scratching his ring, which looked like it was probably silver vs platinum.

I've had my 2016 MBP close to two years now and there aren't any noticeble scratches on the Space Grey finish even though I've never put any kind of protection on it and it's traveled with me on trips. I don't abuse it, but I don't treat it like an expensive piece of jewelry either. It seems to be no worse for the wear, but I have seen photos that other people have posted of their Space Greys not faring nearly as well as mine.

In those cases, they claim they actually did pamper it for the most part and the slightest accident caused the finish to strip off. I believe them, but I don't think it's common.

All I’m saying, my point, along with a lot of others point, is that for a minimum $800 mobile device, we shouldn’t have to worry about the thing bending, or warping. I have the 11”. So far so good. But I still worry about it. To the point that I went to the extreme and bought a pelican case just to transport the thing in, so it’s inside a hard shell wrapped in foam when I bring it anywhere out of the house.

Yes, I agree, but the problem is everyone wants everything thin and light. You can’t have it both ways. It’s either thin and light, or thicker and more durable. I just don’t believe with normal use it’s going to bed. My iPhone 6 never bent with normal use. I didn’t use it different than I used any other phone - rather I was just careful and cognizant of where it was (i.e. never putting it in my back pocket).

These bends are happening because pressure is put on the iPad, pure and simple. They aren’t going to bend themselves. Granted I wish they were stronger and I didn’t have to worry about it, but I think people are making more out of it than it really is.

And hopefully your right, people are making more of it than wht it is. I too had the 6 plus with no issues.

Not everyone wants thin and light. I would glad take a thicker iPad. Get rid of the stupid camera hump, more structural integrity, and maybe a bigger battery. The structural integrity alone is enough to justify the added weight.

If I bought a product and it was bent out of the box, I’d return it. Otherwise, I’m inclined to believe it was accidentally bent. I still can’t see how these things are just bending without any sort of legitimate pressure.
I'm not so sure about that, i've had a Samsung Tablet for a few years that i've treated like crap and it is still not bent. You know it really is ok to admit when a product has a design flaw ;)

You've never once had a defective product from any manufacturer? Lucky you.

All the iPads are checked before being put in those boxes.

Uh huh. I've had an iPad with a scratch in the middle of the screen, right out of the box. Yes, an actual gouge in the glass about 1.5" in length.

Another time I had a hair in the box--a rather long one. So someone didn't tie their hair back when packing that unit.

Picture in link below!! F Apple
I’ve treated this thing like a baby, never in a bag, carried everywhere, and keyboard case from day 1. Apple, this is ********. And I just saw it and it’s past 14 days now.
What can I do? See picture, it’s bent right at the antenna line from the factory.

My 11” iPad Pro with LTE looks exactly the same as above. All I did was take it out of the box and viewed at the same angle. Maybe it’s an illusion, but sure looks slightly bent.

Is it for sure bent or just look weird from that angle?

You’ve observed from multiple angles?

I swear in the right light my 7Plus look bent, but never actually was.

It's all about your eye perception. My iPad Pro 11' looks like it's bent at a certain angle but in fact it's actually straight. Don't let your eyes deceive you. You can simply test it by taking a ruler or some sort that is flat and put your iPad against it.

You didn’t read the discussion. Discussing a bent iPad from the factory. I’ve had other issues like a scratch but never a bent device.

I deal w material science and manuf costs daily in product development. Calls for titanium and magnesium casing border on the ridiculous. It’s more expensive than aluminum and more difficult to work with which means even more expensive devices. I’m also unsure of the impact on RF, not my wheelhouse.

I bet the iPad Pro is made from 6000 series aluminum. Apple could have rather inexpensively used 7000 series instead. The inclusion of some additional internal ridges laterally and longtiudally like you seen on car roofs would have added more rigidity without sacrificing much space.

The radii on the corners and back in previous designs added rigidity versus the new flat & boxy design. If all the reports of bending are true, this is a major design and use case testing fail. I’m sure there will be class actions and Apple will make it right like they always do after there’s enough negative PR.

I haven’t and won’t check.... but have concerns about bending when popping my iPad in and out of non folio type 3rd party Speck case. None of the case manuf planned on the 2nd gen pencil and inductive charging, so you need to pull the edge of the iPad out of the case to charge the pencil.

IMO slightly OT, bigger beef I have with Apple is the **** job they do with connector platforms shifts. Pretty sure Apple can afford the relatively minimal USB-C licensing fees. Apple could have at least incorporated USB-C on the XS and XR so I don’t have to carry around 2 different kinds of headphones. Yes yes I could get Bluetooth headphones but don’t want to carry around something else I need to recharge. My guess this is the first move of many as we get nearer to the EU connector regulations for devices.

I believe the reason Apple is using 6000 series aluminum is not cost, but weight. 7000 is heavier.

If you bought a 3rd gen iPad Pro then you are telling Apple, by your purchase, that you DO want thinner.

LOL, that may not be true at all...upgrading to a new product doesn’t mean you WANTED every new feature but the pros may outweigh the cons for now.....just like how I returned mine and HAPPY I did cause the design flaws and unacceptable amount of ram make it a BAD purchase for the money

You’re not wrong but Apple thinks different / just look at the bottom line and attribute it towards sales

“People ‘LOVE!’ No headphone jack and no port flexibility on 2016 and up MBP’s, it’s why iPhone 7 and redesign MBP sold like gangbusters” ;)

I did. You said the iPads are checked and therefore could not have been bent before being put into the box. If the iPads are checked, why did I have a hair in my box? Why was my screen scratched?

Because humans are doing it and humans are not perfect. It's entirely possible for a slightly bent iPad to be boxed.

Increased weight is negligible. Ppl complaining about impractical insignificant marginal differences in weight need to head to the gym.
