So I wanted some protection (insert_joke_here), but didn't want to fully commit to a pricier case so I went with this combo:

It's an ultra lightweight case, with simple, screen protection film. Not too far off from what we're doing with our other devices, just a change from Spigen/Tech Armor.

I actually prefer this style screen protector, and the case is cheap enough it's not a huge deal to replace later, as other option become available.

Also Spigen but is open at the bottom so swiping up might be easier. Also has cutouts for buttons which might feel better than the rubber covers.

Me too. Every year I say I am not going to buy a ton of cases, and inevitably I do. I wish I could be like a normal person and buy just one and be happy. I ordered the Apple folio, K11 bumper, Caudabe Crystal, an Elago something or other and a Vaja slim grip. If I was smart I would stop watching this thread.

They are not bad, depends on how often you drop your phone.

I have broke my screen once because I dropped in an angle that the bottom opening part bumped into a sharp corner.
But that will happen to any case that has bottom opening.

I think I'm about 98% on the Ringke Air + Tech Armor HD front screen protector. Minimalist, some drop protection, screen is reasonably safe and it will show the nice phone design (I went with silver/pearl/white).

Ringke Fusion for me have had them on all my iPhones look really good and good protection with drops etc

Excellent, I went from 98% to 100% and actually ordered it yesterday! Tech Armor was OOS, and I wasn't sure how long a direct order would take, so after a little research, I wound up ordering amFilm product from TechMatte (that seemed to be the exact same type of screen protector).

I really like the look of the TwelveSouth relaxed leather cases! I was leaning towards the Apple leather but the saddle brown seems slightly off for me (out of the box). I may have to go with the TwelveSouth cognac. Hopefully they're ship times are fast.

this there is no way around that unless you get a lifeproof cases.

i take my phones out on a weekly basis from their cases and clean them.

How about some sort of pouch or wallet to keep it in. The extra layer will help with the dust, along with removing the case daily to clean.

I just order the Spigen thin fit in silver to go with my Silver X. Any thoughts about it so far? Slippery, notches, etc? I like having access to the buttons (vs rubber cover) and the open lip at bottom for swiping seems like a good idea right now. Not to dissimilar from the apple silicone case in that regard. Not expected massive protection but hoping it works against the minor dings and scratched.

Relax and don't get upset over a comment. One bad drop tot hat open area and bam shattered screen especially for the X where the glass is that low. Before with other iPhone models it was still plastic/aluminum a bit at the bottom no?

I'm having a nervous breakdown with the new multitasking gestures. I hate the open bottom but I have to concede the lip on my preferred case might drive me nuts. Is it worth sacrificing protection for gesture/finger freedom?

(Double problem: I'm an old man who sort of runs/jogs/rambles and every Apple Leather case I've tried has been to slippery. Some guy on YT claimed coconut oil on the leather gives it a nice grip but...)

I've been getting Apple leather iPhone cases since they started making them. After you use them for a bit, grip starts getting better as oil from your hands, etc comes into contact with it.
