Apple Cases

They are stiff but I’m willing to deal with it. The reason I’m loving this case is the TPU portion comes down halfway over the sides and provides a lot of grip. Also it’s so easy to take on and put off. Perfect for me because I hate cases and take it off whenever I feel it’s safe. But when on it feels very protective. I’m done with case obsession lol. I’m returning everything and keeping the symmetry.

Same here. The stiff buttons are definitely not a deal breaker. The Symmetry just about strikes the perfect balance between form factor and protection. A few days ago, I pulled the trigger on AppleCare+ and considered downgrading to a slimmer case, but ultimately decided to keep the Symmetry. As the old adage goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

I just uploaded my latest competition video to my YouTube channel, “TECH-FIGHTER”. It pits the 3 Apple OEM cases against each other. Check it out if you’re interested plus I’ll be giving away a free case so you may want to give it a shot.

Enjoyed the review man. Silicone may be my pick, but that's a personal thing.

With the mic issue on the Leather Folio though, won't the front (bottom edge) mic always handle phone calls? That rear mic is only for recording video I thought?

Thanks. I wasn’t sure what was the cause at first but upon searching thru Apple’s discussion forums I found multiple conversations that arrived at the same conclusion. Here’s a link to one of them:

Anyone here own a Lifeproof Fre? I've heard people say that the film that is attached to the case gives the screen a blurry look.

Interesting. Post below states the rear microphone is responsible for background noise cancellation.

So, with the case flap so close to the mic & rubbing up against it, the phone would think the environment is very noisy & perhaps employ to heavy filtering of background noise which may then impact the quality of your voice.

Yes, it does. I’d call it grainy rather than blurry, though. Now that most of us have gotten used to tempered glass screen protectors, and phones are pretty much waterproof-the Fre seems like overkill. The plastic screen protectors are not as responsive or durable as the glass.

Unless you’re going to be using the phone underwater, I’d suggest the Otterbox Pursuit. Same type of case, and you can use a tempered glass protector.

Yes, the Lifeproof FRE for the iPhone X is pure garbage. Returned mine a couple of days after receiving it.
Here are a couple of pictures showing the lovely grainy screen.

Were you using the FRE with a glass screen protector? I would think that would exacerbate the grainy effect, since the plastic built into the FRE is going to be in even closer proximity to the "surface" of the screen. Which is not to say that the grainy effect hasn't been a drawback of every FRE model since the dawn of time, it has, but without a glass protector the effect may be less pronounced.

How does the Silk Road compare to the Apple silicone case, in your opinion?

View attachment 745407 Just bought and received the incipio Octane Light in Glossy white for my Silver X. Brings me back to the good old days of the iPhone 4/4s bumper. Fantastic quality bumper that shows off the design of the phone
https://www.incipio.com/cases/iphone-cases/iphone-x-cases/octane-light-iphone-x-case.html

I think the regular Octane is terrific. I had the light but the band was too slippery. They should have used the band design on the regular octane.

Was there anything other than the screen protector that detracted from the case? The FRE is an excellent choice if you want ultimate protection on your device, but the screen protector will predictably cause some distortion of the screen-especially if you put an additional screen protector under the Lifeproof one. They definitely advise against that.

There’s a reason they sell TONS of these. People who work outside, regardless of weather conditions, swear by them. They’re not stylish, but I wouldn’t call them garbage. More like an extreme use case with an unfortunate compromise. There really aren’t any other absolutely waterproof cases that compete with the fit and finish of the FRE-especially if you factor in their stellar customer service.

But again, it’s total overkill for most people. If you don’t need one, there are better options for sure.

I was using the Dark Olive apple silicone case since I got my iPhone X, but since I had a bad experience with my older 6s dropping and cracking near the earphone jack I kept looking for an alternative covering the bottom.

The Ryokosy Silk Road case gives the same nice silicone touch and good hand-grip and of course protect the bottom

Yes, the pictures are of my phone with a tempered glass protector on but I also tried it on my wife's and daughter's phones and the results were the same, major grainy screen on all 3 phones.

Got my eye on the tech 21 evo tactical to replace my Otterbox symmetry. Any owners have any thoughts on that case?

Had a good last few days...

Walmart specials. $4.88. As close to you can get to a Apple Brand Silicone. Can’t find much telling them apart from genuine other than logo and price.

Like this Catalyst quite a bit. Excellent buttons, I appreciate mute knob albeit probably not for everyone. Not a huge fan of clear back but a excellent case. Really like the color combo myself, seems I tend to lean towards black cases.

Neat case. Like the vent mount included. Not sure about Apple Pay working, but with magnets in it it says wireless charging works. Pretty good buttons, ok face down protection, ridges on edge to help with holding phone. I like the ballistic nylon backing.

The Evutec looks interesting, though the rear camera cutout depth makes it seem overly thick?

I also picked up the Evutec but in the carbon. It seems much slimmer than this one. I mainly bought it because the magnetic mount is awesome.

No once you get camera in it it isn’t any thicker than any other case. Definitely slimmer than some mate.

@jlczl how well does Apple Pay work with magnets in back of case? The magnetic mount is SWEET though. Good hold for sure!

Here is the Evutec "karbon" edition. picked it up on clearance at Target over the Holidays for 25.00. I really like the case, only issues is the magnetic mount; the hold is so strong that the rubber claws dont hold the mount in place and it comes off my vents.

Looks awesome. Been wanting something with this style of back so opted to not get carbon this time. Karbon looks a lot thinner than this version
