Butting in for no reason other than to say I just switched my Asus 27" 1440p monitor for an LG 27" 4K display (27UN500, which is currently on sale just about everywhere I think, I got mine for £100 off here in the UK) and I am in HEAVEN. Running via HDMI from my M1 MBA.
What are your scaling settings?

I do find QHD at Native resolution at 25 inches to be fine on my Dell monitors. I have my 27 inch 4K monitors at native resolution as well.

Scaling is set to the middle of five options in the Display system preference. According to EasyRes, this is 2560 x 1440 (at 60Hz). So same screen real estate as my 1440p display, but with insanely clear text and UI elements.

Basically any 4K or above monitor for current Mac's it superior to any 1440p monitor due to HiDPI support. Surely 1440p works and it is readable, but fonts look terrible and I'm sure anyone checking those even without side by side comparison sees that.

Can you honestly say fonts look exactly the same when QHD is at native resolution vs 4K monitor in scaled HiDPI mode? ;)
I mean surely QHD is readable and such, I used one for like over 2 months but fonts are just terrible compared to my MBA M1 or any modern iMac. As soon as I got 4K monitor fonts look the same as in modern Mac's. :)

ps. My QHD monitor was also Dell, it is not about the brand but the resolution and MacOS support for it.

Yep, that's why I got a 4K display. I wish I'd done it years ago (although I do like the low price at the moment!).

Yeah same here, seems to work nice with Windows too. When I got my QHD monitor few years ago, I was about to get 4K already back then but I had only Windows gear in use and I thought they are better at native.

When I got my Mac mini M1 couple months ago and I was shocked how fonts looked on my QHD monitor, absolutely disaster compared to Windows and I almost returned it due to that and considered iMac 24" but luckily I did not since 24" is just too small and would have needed to step down in "screen estate" unless using even smaller fonts than before. I ended up getting 32" 4K monitor (LG 32UN880-B) and it is heaven, I can comfortably use 3008x1692 with good sized fonts and gained more "screen estate".

I don't use scaled mode on 4k monitors. Fonts look the same, only smaller.

Both look fine.

Yup.

I have a computer from 1977 on my desk that I used to program in high-school. This computer still works. Modern fonts look nicer but my old computer is still quite readable.
Have you ever tested HiDPI font mode in your 4K monitor?

Surely fonts are readable always. I'm talking about quality of them.
