twitterific is pretty good, but not full featured.

twitterfon is pretty damn good.

both are free.

so is Tweetie the winner??

Yes. The only drawbacks are:
It doesn't appear to cache your tweets that you saw from the previous launch (this speeds up load times I assume)
and
It doesn't update avatars. You have to uninstall tweetie and reinstall it to update avatars.
and
the refresh button is part of the scrolling tweet feed. BIG UI issue, IMO.

Not true, they are cached for 3 days.

The only thing that Tweetie needs IMO is loading all tabs like Twitterfon does, although I understand that this is on it's way in an update.

It's always been what I've seen the most talked about. However, the update to LaTwit just came out, and in many ways in terms of functionality I think it's better than Tweetie... but I just like Tweetie's text-bubble UI better...

I encourage you to check out SimplyTweet too. Disclaimer: I am the developer.

It doesn't have a large feature set yet, but I believe it is the only app that provides a screen (I call it conversation) which helps to list out replies to a particular tweet. Most other apps require you to click/touch through the replies manually. Look carefully at the screenshot in http://motionobj.com/simplytweet/.

Oh. Good to know. Thanks. I guess I am just a little too impatient. I'd at least like a way to force it to recache the avatars.

[app]TwitterFon[/app] does the job perfectly:
It looks great, goes to the first unread tweet on launch, caches tweets with no loss in the instant load time, smooth scrolling, great Safari/YouTube link integration, upload pics to TwitPic, etc, etc.
Totally Awesome and free, with zero ads and bloatware.

TwitterFox for Firefox is an awesome add-on too, by the same developer. ;)

That is what I use ... but I barely use it at all so it doesn't really matter to me.

true, but its not like i have money to throw around left and right

Yet his signature shows some frivolous expenditures.

'13" Black Macbook, 2.4 GHz, 4 GB RAM, 250 GB HD
3G Black iPod Nano 8 G'

Didn't the black MacBook cost $100 more just because of the color? That could pay for a lot of apps.

And for the original topic, iLounge just posted a review of 23 different Twitter apps.

Favorite Twitter App

I just joined Twitter and I'm going to explore it over the coming days. It seems like it may be similar to Facebook, but I'm not sure yet.

Just wondering what is your favorite Twitter app? Thanks!

I merged you into a thread with more discussion of this topic. ;)

I personally use Twinkle, but I haven't tried the others in detail.

And just a friendly reminder, we ask that you please don't promote piracy on MacRumors.

I would like to "tweet" and have several of the apps but I don't know how to get started with it. It seems to me you have to know someone already on the app in order to chat with them, am I right? If not could someone explain how you got started and how to use the app. Thanks.

Not really, it's the most fun when you do know people on twitter, but you can basically chat with anyone. Not that it's a chatting app, that really annoys me when people have a back and forth conversation. Anyway you should just get started, tweet what's on your mind for a while and convince your friends to join.

My vote goes to tweetie.

Btw, I hate it when people start going off topic and giving moral advice on what people should or shouldn't do (in this case I am talking about pirating). It just clutters the threads and annoys the s*** out of me. Sorry but I needed to vent

I'm using Twitteriffic Premium. The interface is amazing.

I have SimplyTweet hidden on the back page of my phone for the push notifications. I'd probably use it as my primary if the themes were modified a bit. They just seems kind of.... lacking.
