Neither are Apple and Samsung smartphones. The world is bigger than the US (perhaps you forgot).

In the UK the phones cost pretty much the same unsubsidised. On contract they're both free. The iPhone 5 is slightly ahead of the GS4 here right now but only just. It's very close and both phones are very popular.

I better like the story when the newly formed Apple had to figure out how to build the machines that had just been ordered. Apple has never been about selling the most units, they are about their product enhancing lives.

It's not even about Apple. No Android maker seems to be able to make a noticeable dent in the Android marketplace these days.

Competition is good when everyone is trying, not just Samsung (what is happening now)

we have a fleet of ~150 iphones and 2-3 android. not planning on buying any more either.

iOS is a lot easier to support. the UI is standard, the essential apps (email, VPN, etc) are all standard and the device is fairly spyware/malware proof out of the box.

That not even a valid argument. You can create a corporate image for both IOS and Android. You an include or exclude any app you want EXCEPT for IOS which pretty forces you to use their apps. Android you can take what is included or replace it with whatever you want that fits you companies needs. When you go to android you can skin it to look and feel to your corporate liking. Cannot do that with IOS. You are stuck with what Apple decided you should have. The corporate Android image is malware/spyware free.

Exactly the same situation as in Australia, but Merkie was just trying to reverse out of their non-sensical posts...

Keep in mind that this statistic alone is not the whole picture. Last quarter, 51% of all Verizon smartphone activations were iPhones. While Samsung may outsell Apple in total number of shipped units, clearly Apple continues hold about half the market for Smartphones, with Samsung taking the lion's share of the other half (plus HTC, Nokia, Motorola, LG, etc.).

You are only looking at the US though, not the worldwide market. With the US being the 2nd largest market for smart phones, it is an important geographic area for any smartphone manufacturer, but taking the entire world into account, the iPhone is barely a blip on the radar compared to the plethora of Android phones and specifically the Galaxy series. And this includes giving away iPhone 4's and selling the 4S at less than $50 or £30 or €40 or 500,000,000,000 Yen. J/K about the Yen.

Point is, analysts only give the US market share numbers, because worldwide market share numbers are extremely embarrassing for Apple. This sort of media manipulation gives the illusion Apple is doing better than it actually is. And as we have seen, that forced subsidizing on carriers outside the US by Apple is coming unraveled and with it, profit margins. Russia is just the latest country to tell Apple to kiss their a33es and kick them off all 3 major telecarriers. Apple is basically a Ponzi scheme falling apart.

Cmon now you can't possibly be comparing the plethora of 3rd rate devices (not to mention sloppy clones running android) to the iphone now can you? Considering apple only makes flagship devices, it's only fair that we limit it to Android's flagships as well. I mean let's at least dwell in some sort of of realism.

I would like to see some companies kicking samsung down a notch. Not Apple but, other phone manufactures. HTC really knocked me back with the ONE, and now Moto is back in the game. I personally am excited! However we all know Nokia will be dominating by years end!

What you call third-rate actually have better hardware specs than iphone. Look at phones ZTE, Huawei and others eventhough they are much cheaper.

iPhone 4 and 4s are not flagship phones anymore. They are cheap mid tier phones at this point. And according to most analysts, the 4 and 4S iphones outsell the 5 (although no one will every know, since Apple refuses to give iPhone 5 sales figures from their online and brick and mortar stores.)

And if you really want to just break down flagship phones, then the S3, S4 and Note 2 from Samsung still crush iPhone (all of them) sales per quarter, worldwide. Now add in phone like the Nexus 4, HTC One and a couple other high end Android phones and it isn't even close.

Is that real enough for you?

A lot of people prefer to live in their own little Apple-Bubble and will always refuse to acknowledge that other companies might do better than Apple.

The only people 'feeling' it are probably stakeholder - even though they hate to admit it.

Being able to provide support over the phone and knowing that the user is using "mail" rather than some obscure third party thing i've never heard of = feature.

iOS 7 while offering a few new features is too soft, feminine & pastel to appear a serious competitor. Yet Apples past accomplishments are still carrying them. This is likely to keep their sales moving along in spite of a very unexciting 2013.

Are you serious??

You know that policies can be enforced on Android phones, don't you?

Sure.

At a cost of developing said policy and having the company own the device.

That isn't the only reason we aren't interested in Android - lack of vendor support post sale (I can still get security updates onto our 3G-s fleet), laughable android security issues (recent code signing one), etc are all contributing factors.
