Another strange behaviour I have noticed on the last 2 betas is when updating some applications that present the 'restart X app and install' button after downloading the update...the app closes and the update occurs but the app doesn't automatically reopen until about an hour later in some cases. Very strange.

Visual Studio Code is one app that exhibits this behaviour, there has been others but I can't remember which. So I assume this is a macOS bug, not app specific 🤷🏻‍♂️

Can you post the link to this video so we can see if we are also able to load this specific video? Thanks

Although people are saying all videos were not working. I have tried many over the last 24 hours, not one had a problem.

got it: you need to show the developer menu in safari (it's under advanced preferences). then go to experimental features >VP9 decoder & disable that. & youtube works again in safari...

I've never touched that.

Thanks @Ansath. Nope, still unable to play that video.

Out of interest, what are your VP9 settings set to in the develop menu?
Mine are:
VP9 SW decoder on battery (unchecked)
VP9 decoder (checked)

I've tried all the combinations of checked / unchecked for those settings to no avail.

for some, there seems to be no problem. for others, disabling the VP9 decoder seems to work. and for others, still not working. i reported it on feedback assist, am suggesting others with the issue do the same...

Disabling the VP9 decoder did the trick for me. Good find!

For some reason safari is not loading any pages on this latest version of the PB, Tried removing wifi and re-adding but its as if internet is being blocked somewhere? Any ideas it was working fine on the previous PB?

EDIT: figured it out it was adguard nightly beta basically blocking everything disabled it

I've never enabled the Develop menu, so mine will be the default settings.

Here "we are" on Saturday morning: let's hope it is no more alarming than any of the other beta releases.

the VP9 settings are on by default, whether you enable the develop menu or not. it's just an option (to disable VP9), if youtube videos are showing that error. if you don't have the problem, it's irrelevant.

Well, I use Brave as my main browser, and have been watching Cecila Bartoli strut her dead funky stuff
on youtube all morning.

Save for offline reading in Safari reading list working for anyone? When I add a site it says 'saving...', but after turning wifi off it won't open.

I was having the YouTube issue. I disabled VP9 and restart Safari and now everything is working properly. Thanks!

The Safari issues with it quitting instantly sometimes, when first launched or after awhile of browsing many sites was finally resolved with Big Sur beta 10.

This bug was additional to the issue Apple corrected against Safari.

I see no need to refer to the same release as PB 6, just confuses readers IMHO.

This worked for me as well; Thank you so much to all !! I anyways don't need to stream anything in 4k; it literally burns up the MacBook Pro, so this turned out to be a good find for me.

Not for me it hasn't👎

Sorry to hear that, for me I run the browser in private mode majority of time. Perhaps you might try that to see if that makes a difference? Some sites like Netflix require cookies to work via normal mode, but everything else private mode works as a FYI.

TL;DR
What version is the public beta for Big Sur?
I've just downloaded public beta profile to give Big Sur a try. I know for developer, it is version 10, but is public beta also version 10?

It’s the 5th release for public beta. So it’s really PB5, but it seems to be pulling the Dev Beta version number through.

This happened on the iOS betas too. Some of us with Dev profiles were getting beta 1 and 2 showing as Public Beta on some devices and Developer Beta on others.

Basically whoever is responsible for the labels of the builds needs a slap lol.

I just wish they give up labeling it differently for PB testers. Commenting about bugs and issues using Big Sur beta 10 is easier to relate to, less confusion. It's the same release these days. ;)

Thanks for the information!

Just too many beta numbers to keep track.
