I KNOW it's an iPhone Display

Hey, for sure it's an iPhone display. Why, because it's in the BACK OF THE STORE. It's kinda like the supermarket when they put the milk in the rack at the rear of the store, so when you go in to buy "just a quart of milk" you have to walk by all the other goodies before you get to the merchandise that you really came to see. And guess what? That method has been proven to sell a lot of the stuff that people walk by to get to the milk.

July will be soooo much fun.

Apple ][ Forever!:)

Probably iPhone display work. Since the store is open 24/7, they'd want the work isolated from customer traffic. Stores that close can work on the display after hours. Educated guess after talking with local store folks.

I should just go down there and rip off the curtain.

In the event of such a breach, the staircase and elevator retract into the ceiling and the secret product behind the curtain is simultaneously transported to a vault 500 feet below New York City.

Meanwhile, the geniuses round up anyone who may have gotten a peek to the firing squad behind the store.

Not a good idea in my opinion. ;)

What a tease, Apple can be!
They're like Paris Hilton--attention whores,
but in more of a good way.

Agh, what I'm trying to say is that they know that
even if there isn't an "iPhone display" or something
of that excitement, the black curtain that seemingly
"pops up outta nowhere" will attract some MAJOR
attention, and possibly some sales in that store.

Dang, they're smart.

And as for the "pull-down-the-curtain" fund:
I got $5.60.

DO IT.
;)

A couple of attractive young women nursing babies makes for a good diversion in most retail stores -- probably even more so in a place where nerds hang out. :p

Haha, you guys are oddly serious about this curtain removal... I dont really want a police record, or an "Apple" record.

The curtain is up in the 5th Ave store because of the one key difference in the 5th ave store that doesnt exist in any other Apple store...IT NEVER CLOSES. Open 24/7. Not like they can change things up after closing time. So, for a new display that is for an exciting new product, such a thing would be necessary.

I expect an iPhone display, ready for the weekend.

I think sunday night would be a good time for this. If I were a manager, I would just put the curtain up, and set up the display the night before. The actual iPhone will be fedexed to all the stores overnight with an early morning delivery.

The phone wont be there until noonish on monday, but the display should be up until the night before.

If you go to the store early monday, I bet the manager will have it in his shirt pocket to tease you all.

Just because no one will be able to get one for 3 weeks doesn't stop pre-sales!

Yeah, and I'm sure NO ONE at the store reads MR :D

yeah i agree with what a few have said, there could very well be a few iPhones at the store for people to play with and such. Not for sale until the 29th, of course. Makes sense to me!

Anyway I'm in NY, i might stop by and see what all the fuss is...

Duh guys, its totally Apples new clothing line of Black turtle necks, stone washed relaxed-fit jeans and iShoes (yeah I said iShoes, thats not a misspelling) Ok maybe not, its probably just an iPhone display, or maybe its a Cingular booth where you'll be able to activate your iPhone. Eww can you imagine an Orange booth inside an Apple store? Or did AT&T drop the orange?
