Is anyone else just tired of the iphone? I'll be out of contract come Jan and may get the omnia HD or the HTC Hero, not because I think they are better phones as such, its just that... well... the iphone just doesnt excite me any more. The most excited I got about the iphone [in recent months] was when I seen one of the mock ups that were done before we kew what the 3GS looked like.

Am I the only one who has an overbearing sense of 'meh' when using their phone these days, albeit very functional?

Fanboys and those just wanting to trash other phones need not reply please.

Huh?!
still talking english over there?

[EDIT] I'm really sorry OP! it's just that I opened a reply to your thread and went to the bathroom for a min b4 i wrote anything, in that time my sister wrote that! :S

my real reply was gonna be this:
"well, yeah! you're kinda right... the look of the iphone in general is not changing much since it first began... i mean i loved the new 3gs (getting one soon)... i love every feature/aspect of it... but it would've been better if they pimp it up a bit... physically and in its homepage or something"

They should have made at least some design changes this time around. Even a matte back would have sufficed, not to mention avoided scratching.

The 3GS doesn't bring anything terribly new or amazing to the table. The "oooh" factor is absent this time around.

You'll miss it. When I sold my iPhone I couldn't stand it. No I'm not an apple fanboy. I'm just a fan of the iPhone.

Yeah...... Messenger what you talking about exactly?

I think youre probably right, but I can always get the 4G or whatever its called. Only if its got that 'wow' factor though :)

All things get boring eventually. If you get a new phone, it will become boring in a few weeks, too. IMO the iphone is better able to hold your attention than any other phone out there because of its many apps and games, but I'm sure you already know that.

don't forget the updates like 3.0.0.0.0.1 that get you excited for like a few minutes;):p

I agree, I'm really tired of the UI. We need native-skinning ASAP!

Exactly.

Even if Apple wanted to make money off of it, they could have a Themes section in the App store. Instead, they rather just change 3 icons by putting diagonal lines in them and call it a day. ;)

get this
getDynamicImage.aspx

a 3gs, you can't really beat the CPU/graphics/Ram in there, if you don't have one already
jailbreak and you can never get bored, jailbreaking is like having one of those regular smartphones you quoted, UI freedom etc.

Blimey, some of you people have the attention span of a five year old!

When you're trying to establish world domination it's usually a bad idea to dramatically change your concept with every new incarnation of the product... one of Nokia's strengths historically has been the familiarity of their UI over the years.

But yes, there's still plenty of room for improvement, and it'll come, in time, and gradually.

Apple knows they have loyal customers. If they can get away by advertising cut, copy and paste as a must have revolutionary feature 2 years after they launched the iPhone, then at that rate, I say we'll see custom themes in 2013.

I can agree with what OP is saying.

And, if I might add, I think iPhone becomes as interesting as your life is in general. It can enhance your already fun or productive life, but it won't turn your life around for the better.

As for myself, instead of getting iPhone 3GS now, I will buy the 3rd Gen iPod Touch this fall. Come later this year, my new smartphone will be HTC Hero. This way, I can have all the great Apple apps on my new iPod Touch and I can also experience what the android has to offer as well.

Me thinks that you are going to have a disappointing life.

Seriously.

Anyhow, what is wrong with a functional device with a good UI?

I am sure bored of the UI.
Why?

Are you expecting the UI to entertain you?

Blimey, some of you people have the attention span of a five year old!
Getting that feeling as well.

But yes, there's still plenty of room for improvement, and it'll come, in time, and gradually.
True. And yes, changes will come. :)

So exactly how long will the device you buy to replace the iPhone entertain you for? A week, maybe two?

Seriously, why can't you just see it (or any phone) as a functional device?

Good question.

In fact, since the iPhone is so functional, it is getting harder for me not to take the plunge. Still happy with my iPod touch 1st gen 32GB model and my current cell phone. Getting an iPhone would allow me to carry 1 device instead of three that I normally carry (phone, touch, and P&S camera).

I'm not attacking the functionality, I already stated I find it functional.

I just fancy a change. Is there any reason why I cant buy a phone that has a UI that I prefer, so what if I get bored with the new phone? It's my mistake to make. I'm bored with my current phone so nothing to lose.

As for haivng the attention span of a 5 year old - well I have had the iPhone since day 1. Thats over 2 years. The longest I have had any device. I think its time to move on and see if anything else suits me better. I'm inclined to think the majority of people who defend the iphone [even when no-ones attacking it] havent seen or used android on a day to day basis, myself included. I'd like to see what my options are. What can I say, familiarity breeds contempt! :)

I'd maybe keep the camera handy :) (unless you bought it in 2001)
