how's the battery life on the hero with a lot of apps running?

Before the update it was much the same as my iPhone 3G. I'd get about 36 hours usage between charges. After the update its been significantly better (updated the 'radio' to the latest version too). Thats with HSDPA and push-gmail / twitter / facebook notifications on all the time though.

Its interesting coming back and reading some of the replies to this thread.
You know the only thing I miss about the iPhone? The keyboard. Some people moan about the iPhone keyboard. They should be shot. In the face.

It may be a limitation of the Hero give theres less space, but I miss the iPhone keyboard its miles better. I had a play on a HTC Desire the other day and the keyboard was a lot better. Screen size is a big factor (3.7 inch vs 3.2 inch) Aside from that I really like it. I'm running a custom 2.1 rom and its really nice.

I'm hoping the new iPhone HD is fantastic, I like the look of iBooks. Ichat could be good - video calling is kinda old - 3 done it years ago, but with a decent platform and user base it could be something else. Multitasking too, while it was never a big deal for me its nice to have. Would love *.avi or *.mkv support but I'm clearly delusional :)

The only other thing about android that annoys me is the fragmentation of the platform. I guess you cant have it both ways - youre either tied to what Apple releases or your tied to what Google releases, at least apple releases updates to everyone at the same time, the advantage of having a single device tied to a single platform I guess.

If anyone has the inclination to try something new then I'd recommend the HTC Desire, or if you live in the US then the HTC Evo. They are worth a look.

I am looking at buying the HTC Desire but there have been a lot of issues with it.

I am bored of my iPhone but then when I shop at Sprint, AT&T and Verizon I look at my iPhone and go I am never getting rid of it because all the phones out there compared to mine are boring 10X worse.

The only one I have not played with is the Nexus One but who wants to deal with Google, I like dealing with the stores, also the new HTC phone is really nice but it is only on the T-Mobile network and that one stinks in my area, so I sit here in anticipation for June's WWDC
