Jeez, I'm perfectly content with my personal life, thanks all the same. :)

what about the BB Tour??

http://estore.vzwshop.com/bbtour/

I am in the same boat you are..i am just bored..i scroll thru my phone and i keep saying "i havent used that app or played that game in months.." all my friends have BB and are always on BB messanger...im tempted...

i really might make the switch.then next yr when i am due for an upgrade there will be a verizon iphone (hopefully)..i might give it a year break...it def has lost its excitement...

Never really liked any of RIM's stuff to be honest, although I did nearly buy the Pearl when it came out. I think BB's appeal to a completely different end user i.e. buisiness and professional users. I dont know anyone outside of work that uses one.

To some degree, I find boring to be a good thing - especially for a tool that I use for business.

Backing-up? Boring. It always works.

Updating? Boring. No issues there (I'm looking at you, WinMo)

Applications? Boring. They work without crazy memory leaks that crush your battery and cause other things to stop functioning (cough, Treo 700p)

UI? General usage? Boring. Stuff just works - it's boring not having to hope your phone doesn't re-boot right before (or during) a call, refuse to hang up or answer, or just stop responding.

I'll take boring with a side of awesome, please.

Get a couple of Gelaskinz for the back and your phone will look different. Jailbreak it so you can change the themes and have background processes. I am annoyed by the stock theme and icons and cant wait until Winterboard is ready for the 3GS. Doing those things will keep your phone feeling really fresh.

The Pre is the only phone I would consider if I were tired of the iPhone.

I don't see themes as being successful for sale because each time you buy an app it won't be supported by your theme. Its much better to add them yourself, and Apple won't let you do that. Best you can hope for is sticking a wallpaper behind your icons which is a shame because for the most of the 3rd party icons suck.

I may just do that!! :)

Is anyone else just tired of the iphone? I'll be out of contract come Jan and may get the omnia HD or the HTC Hero, not because I think they are better phones as such, its just that... well... the iphone just doesnt excite me any more.

Not bored at all. Going from an iPhone to something else makes you appreciate the iPhone all the more.

OP: Don't come crying back after you buy another phone and find out how *****TY they are. If it wasn't for the iPhone, there would be those touch screen phones you mentioned, remember they are just copying what apple did, and they still can't get it right.

Go for it.

Winterboard, Backgrounder, MxTube, SBSettings, and changing the fonts are reason enough to JB. That way you can hang out on MacThemes and obsess over themes :D . Heck, if you go with the smaller size icons you can run "Five Column Dock" and "Five Column Springboard"; however, Five Column Springboard really did cause some lagginess for me. That being said its really sweet and the 3GS may have no issues with it. The emulators are great, but if regular games bore you then they won't magically keep you entertained. You can even set up a great lockscreen with well-styled notifications and icons.

The best part is that the 3GS has more than enough oomph to handle any lags mobile substrate may or may not cause.

Just be aware that not everything, like Winterboard I believe, is ready to be used on the 3GS.

I am with the OP, sadly. I started my foray into handheld Apple devices with the 1st gen iPod Touch shortly after it was released. Then I got the iPhone 2G. In January I got the iPhone 3G, and in June I got the iPhone 3GS. Are they great devices? Absolutely. Are they entertaining? Absolutely! Do they keep me satisfied with my mobile computing? To an extent. Why?

The UI. It hasn't change much at all since the 1st gen iPod Touch came out. You turn the device on, see a wallpaper, text-based date/time, and an unlock slider. Unlock the device and you have icons thrown at you. I am a fan of the welcome screen on some devices. I thought the MotoQ (despite being a Microsoft Smartphone) had a great welcome/home screen (or all WinMo 6.1 devices for that matter). The wow factor of WinMo ends at the home screen, but damn is the home screen nice. Same goes for Android. The G1 has a nice home screen, you can pull up the full App list, or pull down the notification area, but to begin you have a nice home screen. THAT is what I like.

Maybe I do have a short attention span. I am 21, I can pay attention just fine in school. Is technology different? Technology is rapidly evolving every single day. New devices are being introduced daily sporting new UI's. The iPhone/iTouch (I don't care if some people hate the name iTouch) UI has remained unchanged. Sure you can jailbreak and change the themes and looks of the icons, but BIG DEAL. That isn't the point. Change the icons all you want, the overall UI remains the same. It is VERY functional, but getting stale.

How do people like me combat the boredom that comes with owning technological items? Well I work with technology every day. We order new servers and systems frequently so the fun never stops from that angle. On my personal phone side, I own two phones. The iPhone, and a MotoQ (broken sadly). When I get bored with one, I switch to the other. Then back. Some days I want a physical QWERTY, other days I want my iPhone. Bored with one? Switch to the other.

In my life and at work, I constantly see technology changing. New servers are released with more memory and faster processors. Constantly patching Linux servers to remain ahead of the hackers. Yet the mobile device that is a huge part of my life remains the same. That is why I switch phones every now and then. To mix things up in my constantly changing technological life. How can you expect me to deal with the constant change in technology at work and yet never change my technology on a personal level?

That was a rant.

While there were touch screen phones before the iPhone it really is all about the software. That's why the Pre is the only decent alternative IMO. And just like the iPhone, after a couple of firmware updates its going to be rocking even harder.

No

Yeah that kinda sums it up better than I could :) I think jailbreaking is the way forward. I think the harest thing is KNOWING there isnt anything better out there, but I'm compelled to look anyway!

Bingo. While it may not be *better*, it will be a refreshing change, even if it is only temporary. I found someone who will give me their Android Developer Phone for $50 because they are done with it. This will be my next device to swap my SIM into whenever I get bored. Is it better? Probably not, but its different.

I tend to think that many people want a noticeable cosmetic change to the iPhone so that their peers will immediately know that it's the newest, coolest model. I'm not one of those, though. My 3GS works fine with a good feature set, and I'm fine with that.

I agree.

When it comes to getting things done, I'm fine with boring as long as it works effectively for me. The last thing that I need is for some cool device to not function as expected when needed.

When playing around or experimenting, that's different. It's fun to explore and test new things.

IMHO, the two situations are very different.

Dudes, I'm getting pretty bored with my bathtub.

I mean, it just sits there - and fills up with water when I turn it on. How boring is that?

I'll stand in it and have a have a shower, and think to myself - is this it? Just water? Just making me clean? Holy snore fest.

Like ... what should I do? Get a new bathtub? Just try my best and suffer with this one? Complain to the fine people at Bath Co. ?

Water, faucet, tub, curtain, blah blah blah - I am bored with this thing! Help!

Technology is constantly changing and evolving, daily, while bathtubs and showers are not. Bathtubs and showers serve a single purpose, for 10 minutes a day usually, then are done. Your phone is used throughout the day for a variety of tasks and is always with you. Thus, your analogy is stupid.

Your phone is a single purpose device - to be in contact.

Oh? I use my phone for taking pictures, writing notes so I remember to do something, playing an occasional game to pass the time, testing my latest programming escapades, as a mirror for when one isn't handy and I think I have food on my face, etc. None of those involve being in contact, so again, your analogy remains to be stupid. If you don't like the conversation, leave this thread.

I think my wife, who is an interior designer, would have an issue with your saying that bathtubs and showers are not constantly changing and evolving. As for me, I totally agree with you (on the part about bathtubs and showers, but not on the previous poster's analogy was stupid).

HA!

Ok, will do, uberamd from minnesota.

You just proved how 'awesome' and 'exciting' the iPhone is - what with it's picture taking, and music playing, and game supporting, and mirror (?) toting, and program testing, and .... wait - so how is this thing boring again?

Go fly a kite if you're so bored.

If you care to read my previous entry on page 3 of this thread you will see why I still find this device to get stale after some time.
