Apple is an, if not the, industry leader in terms of hardware/UI design. I think Apple is smart enough not to make changes just for the sake of change.

Look at all the other mobile companies that have released "iPhone killers" that have failed. They think they can just cram hardware specs down your throat or come up with some new UI scheme that might have a lot of bling, but is not mature enough to last.

Apple's goal is to establish an entire ecosystem around the iPhone, like it did with the iPod. A strong OS foundation, a massive app and media store, a gigantic accessory market and simple integration with other devices. That is what makes the iPhone so popular, not some matte case, front facing camera or OLED screen.

If you care to read my previous entry on page 3 of this thread you will see why I still find this device to get stale after some time.

So you find it stale, big deal. It's literally the most exciting phone going on right now. There's literally hundreds of games. Literally thousands of apps. An entire hacking/JB community. An entire forum community. A crazy amount of fan sites and blogs and web sites dedicated to it.

There is music to be listened to. Movies to be watched. Podcasts to be discovered.

Go on an adventure, and take photos with your iPhone while listening to your favorite music. Then call some friends and meet up with them.

At the end of the day, if you're really all that bored, follow your own advice and get a new phone. Maybe that'll satisfy your Linux patching urges.

For a guy with a "no whining" avatar .....

I am not whining, the iPhone is a great device. I am aware of all it can do, but the UI has just gotten dry to me. I have a second device, and I switch between the two when I want to mix things up with my phones. I am a 21 year old college student.... I know how to have fun outside of technology.

And yet, your posting average is 27 per day.

I would venture to say that you could spend a lot more time in RL if you wanted to. :)

Hint, when I was your age, I would probably be posting once per day on average if that. So much to do and so little time.

Well when you are required to work 40 hours a week, and its been a VERY slow few weeks, what do you expect? Look at WHEN I post, at night? Hardly ever. Weekends? Hardly ever. Afternoons during slow work days? Yes.

I'm getting rather bored with the iPhone too. I've done everything on it and now I don't know if I want to keep paying for it each month.

Not bored at all. Going from an iPhone to something else makes you appreciate the iPhone all the more.

That's for sure! Last October I was bored with my 3G and wanted to try a Blackberry. Went and got a 8310 at the AT&T store and it was nice for a month or two, then it all got boring. Cancelled the service, paid the ETF and went back to my still activated 3G and haven't been bored with it since! I make sure I use it for allot of things such as watching music videos, buying and listening to TV shows and music and I read my email on it instead of of my Mac.

It's only boring if you use it only as a phone. Do things!

Dudes, I'm getting pretty bored with my bathtub.

I mean, it just sits there - and fills up with water when I turn it on. How boring is that?

I'll stand in it and have a have a shower, and think to myself - is this it? Just water? Just making me clean? Holy snore fest.

Like ... what should I do? Get a new bathtub? Just try my best and suffer with this one? Complain to the fine people at Bath Co. ?

Water, faucet, tub, curtain, blah blah blah - I am bored with this thing! Help!

Yeah, what's up with bathtubs!? I need something like Tony Montana or Prince Akeem bathtub. Now those would be less boring.

I can relate to the sentiment in this thread by the OP. My iPhone works great and gets everything done that I throw at it. It's a great phone, but I like variety. I wanted a Blackberry a few weeks ago because I've never had one. I don't know why. I used to have Palm OS devices and constantly switch between those and Pocket PC's when new ones came out. I thought it was fun. Call me insecure or childish, I don't mind.

hahahah, it's not insecure or childish to enjoy technology.

I love the movie Casino, but sometimes I want to watch a comedy. That doesn't make Casino "boring".

It's fine to want to play with Andriod, the Pre, a Blackberry etc etc. It's fun to check out new gear. But to be like "OMG! The iPhone is SO boring now! Come on Apple! I'm bored to death" is rather silly.

The cure to boredom is yourself.

FINALLY!!!

Someone agrees with me. Look at my thread on the issue.

Sorry for that ridiculous size, but I had to get attention. :D

I am with the OP, sadly. I started my foray into handheld Apple devices with the 1st gen iPod Touch shortly after it was released. Then I got the iPhone 2G. In January I got the iPhone 3G, and in June I got the iPhone 3GS. Are they great devices? Absolutely. Are they entertaining? Absolutely! Do they keep me satisfied with my mobile computing? To an extent. Why?

The UI. It hasn't change much at all since the 1st gen iPod Touch came out. You turn the device on, see a wallpaper, text-based date/time, and an unlock slider. Unlock the device and you have icons thrown at you. I am a fan of the welcome screen on some devices. I thought the MotoQ (despite being a Microsoft Smartphone) had a great welcome/home screen (or all WinMo 6.1 devices for that matter). The wow factor of WinMo ends at the home screen, but damn is the home screen nice. Same goes for Android. The G1 has a nice home screen, you can pull up the full App list, or pull down the notification area, but to begin you have a nice home screen. THAT is what I like.

Maybe I do have a short attention span. I am 21, I can pay attention just fine in school. Is technology different? Technology is rapidly evolving every single day. New devices are being introduced daily sporting new UI's. The iPhone/iTouch (I don't care if some people hate the name iTouch) UI has remained unchanged. Sure you can jailbreak and change the themes and looks of the icons, but BIG DEAL. That isn't the point. Change the icons all you want, the overall UI remains the same. It is VERY functional, but getting stale.

How do people like me combat the boredom that comes with owning technological items? Well I work with technology every day. We order new servers and systems frequently so the fun never stops from that angle. On my personal phone side, I own two phones. The iPhone, and a MotoQ (broken sadly). When I get bored with one, I switch to the other. Then back. Some days I want a physical QWERTY, other days I want my iPhone. Bored with one? Switch to the other.

In my life and at work, I constantly see technology changing. New servers are released with more memory and faster processors. Constantly patching Linux servers to remain ahead of the hackers. Yet the mobile device that is a huge part of my life remains the same. That is why I switch phones every now and then. To mix things up in my constantly changing technological life. How can you expect me to deal with the constant change in technology at work and yet never change my technology on a personal level?

That was a rant.

VERY well said. Agreed!

I just ran redsn0w and now I'm a happy camper again. Themes FTW.

Now I'm just waiting for the new version of Pwnagetool so I can change my boot logo.

Em, who said "OMG! the iphone is so boring now!" I said I was bored with it, not that IT was boring. Whats with the antagonistic approach?

I concur...I am similarly bored with Apple's constant reiterations of the same old lame OSX UI upgrades (and what's with all these Cat names? BORING!)...I think I will go back to Windows...
/:cool: :apple:

The 'approach' is from all the threads saying the same thing.

Expressing your opinion is fine, but when there's a half dozen threads all saying the same thing (for example - "OMG, white phones are teh ghey"), it gets a little tiring.

Like, you're bored with it. Great? Not sure why that can't go into one of the other (useless) "I'm bored" threads.

But don't mind me .....

Well I'm happy for this thread to be closed if one of the mods thinks that its similar enough to be rolled into another one of these 'useless' threads.

How many forum posts do you actually find useful? I thought this was a place for discussion? I find the stickies usefull - the rest are general conversation for like minded folk. The way some people react to harmless postings like mine is quite funny (and pathetic). All I asked was, Is anyone else kinda bored with their phone, now if youre not then say that - "No - I still love my phone especially example.app its amazing". But no, sarcasm, negativity, people implying my life is boring, people defending the phone (even when constantly say I love the functionality of the device and its probably the best there is) etc etc.

This is a forum, but a lot of members here (for some reason) would prefer you dig up old threads and sift through pages of text before posting your own thoughts. The fact remains that nobody forces these people to *read* these threads. If you don't like the OP, move on. Why some members feel the need to try and belittle others for starting threads because "ZOMG there was a thread created 8 weeks ago on this topic!!!one!!!!" is beyond me.

I think cellocello is probably more annoyed at the multiple threads on the same topic on the same day or over a few days. I mean, how many threads do we need on "3G or 3GS"? For me, I can just ignore them, but others maybe can not. There are a number of users on here that feel the need to stifle these threads, which I think is not good for the forums in the long run, especially for newbies. We need for people to feel like they can ask questions and not feel stupid if they do. Stifling free thought is not good.

Ended up getting the HTC Hero. With the current ROM its decent, with the new (unofficially released :) ROM) It's amazing. Lightning quick, doesnt matter how many apps I have running. So much for the supposed harware limitations! :)

I suppose I could have JB'd but like I said I wanted a change :) Would recommend the new 2.0 Modaco ROM to anyone.
