I have to agree with another poster, do some people have the attention span for a child.

If you're bored get a new phone, because you know what, its just a phone. Not an object to be worshipped or put on a pedestal or a work of art. The iPhone for me is extremely useful and helpful device.

Am I the only one who has an overbearing sense of 'meh' when using their phone these days, albeit very functional?

Anyone who disagrees with me need not reply please.

Fixed that for ya. ;)

(or at least, that's how it seems after reading your later posts!)

First, it's attention span OF a child, not FOR a child.

Second, the OP never contested the functionality of the iPhone. He/she is simply tired of it and wishes to try something new.

So, who is the one that is putting the iPhone on a "pedestal?"

I dont get bored of my phone because I mainly see it as a PHONE. It has plenty of other features that I find useful, as well as an ipod and a few games, but I never thought of it as a device to keep me entertained for hours. You want something like that then get a PSP or Nintendo DS. I never considered the phone a toy and while I would love to see a case change, I'm still very happy with my 3G

so the OP wants to get a crappier phone just to spice things up. Hmm sure go ahead.

Is this a joke? How can you get bored of a cellphone?

I know what the OP is saying

i'm not bored with my 3G its just that it does what it does so well that i find i rely on it......

Its like getting a new car, for the first few miles its great, but as you rely on it and use it everyday it becomes boring and you want a new car even though theres nothing wrong with your old one, it could be the best most expensive car in the world but practical everyday use would make it boring.......

am i making sense?

Any new feature on the iPhone or future iPhones will become boring the more you use them, its inevitable.....

Also like someone else said, the iPhone will only be as exciting as your life, it won't enhance your already mundane life lol (not saying your life is mundane btw)

I don't see where youre getting that tbh, I wasnt looking for agreement in my original post. I was asking if anyone feels the same about the phone. ;)

Thanks for your well thought out and constuctive contribution. :)

Dont even get me started on my car! lol :) yeah its like that. Boredom, as in the title. I understand that its for all intents and purposes the best device out there*

*obviously subject to opinion

Bored?

No. Not bored with my phone because my phone isn't the sole means I am entertained. I use it for email, to make calls, listen to music, watch videos from time to time and use some other apps. It's highly functional for what I need it to do. I don't rely on it to be anything more than it is. A device.

I enjoy a lot of hobbies, spending time with friends, etc.

I'm not bored with my alarm clock radio, tv, refridgerator or oven either.

The iPhone is basically a blank slate. A slab with a screen. It can be pretty much anything. If you're bored with it, I suggest trying to breathe some new life into it with some apps and/or games.

Haha fair enough. I can see this thread going nowhere.

I never realised it was just a phone, I thought it was my sole source of entertainment! Come on guys FFS lighten up

Tbh that's the only reason I have kept it so long - I (and I'm sure I'm not alone here) usually get a new phone every year but have kept the iPhone for 2 . I dunno I would have probably got the 3GS if it offered something groundbreakingly different to the 3G (again not attacking the 3GS just stating opinion). I hope they break the mould with the purpoted "4G"

I'd maybe keep the camera handy :) (unless you bought it in 2001)
Well, that depends on what you are going to shoot.

Also, please notice I said instead of my P&S camera. Remember, more pixels does not equal a better picture as there are many other factors involved.

Anyhow, let's say that I am heading out to Akihabara which is a couple of hours away by train from where I live. You never know what you might see there. It seems like the iPhone 3Gs camera is good enough where I don't need to carry my P&S to take a quick picture of some electronic equipment.

note the smiley ;)

i used to get a new phone every year, but i haven't even thought about getting a new one, even though i've had my 3g for over a year now.. new apps come out all the time, and they get better and better, you cant say that nearly as much for most other phones.

I took this to mean that you thought that the iPhone 3Gs camera is worse than a P&S camera built in 2001 or later, which I don't believe is the case. And is why I explained what I did.

note the smiley ;)
Still don't see the point of your smiley. Sorry.

lol tell me youre kidding :)

haha nope, im surprised it took this long before i did something like that to it though, normally my phones get covered in pen/spraypaint/anything when i get bored. took this one back to the apple shop and the warranty is void because of the moisture sensor.. so thought i may as well customise it.. what next.. hmm

Yeah thats what I was getting at - but trying (and failing it seems) to be funny.
I dont really think a P&S circa 2001 would be better, was just a little dig at the phone's 3MP camera :)

Sell it on ebay :)

They should have made at least some design changes this time around. Even a matte back would have sufficed, not to mention avoided scratching.

The 3GS doesn't bring anything terribly new or amazing to the table. The "oooh" factor is absent this time around.

What are you people talking about??? it's rediculously faster and it's got video.

You're kidding right?
Just look at the features
  • 3mp camera with autofocus - awesome feature and huge improvement
  • video capability - People are amazed at the quality of the videos
  • Speed - things just fly on the phone now, my wife has a 3G and the difference is night and day
  • Double the storage
  • built in magnameter (sp?) while the apps have yet to take advantage its has great potential
  • voice control

The list of 3GS features far outstrips those of the 3G, that is when apple announced the 3G last year its main killer feature was 3G
