Oh, Anyone with negative comments..Please keep them to yourself.. Thanks....

No, if anything I've been curiously watching your thread. In fact I've never owned a Mac Pro, my last Mac in the 2000's was the G3 original iMac I bought in college, but I'm kind of fascinated by your endeavor. I'm sure there are cheaper ways to build an original Mac Pro but I'm butterfingers so just watching this project is really interesting. I hope you the best.

I've only ever ripped a G5 down to its skivvies to build a hackintosh. Are the standoffs similar?

.

I can't believe I'm reading this. I sold my "like new" 3,1 on Craigslist last year for like, $150. Was glad to get rid of it as it was seriously aged for video editing and gaming. Slowwwwww.

But to see how much effort and time you're going throuh to build one from scratch is just...I done know.

There was a time, I thought I must be completely nuts to go ahead and buy a HyperX Predator 960 SSD for my aging CMP 5.1 - So in a way I am really glad to read that blog here. I guess one must look at it as a new kind of Hot Rod DIY Garage kind of project. From that kind of view, - go for it. Those projects are usually a lot of fun.
Talking about nuts.. who would like to be the first one to put one of those card in a CMP ???

-- and would that one fit in a 3.1 too ??? ;););)

You are far more brave that I with this project! I just got a 4,1 and flashed it to run faster CPUs. Added and SSD and a more modern GPU, and that's enough hot-rodding for me these days. :)

The condition of the case is impressive. My 4,1 from macofalltrades looks like it was dragged down a flight of stairs.

Well, my Mac case is in fantastic condition, and that's why I thought. Why not make my Mac from a 1,1 to a 3,1..

Oh. I forgot that I will replace the super drive with a Blue ray SATA one from one of my PC's..

Glad that you have the joy and the time to proceed with this diy project.
Good Luck!:)

Yes it will, you have declared it previously:

:):):)

Well, I just ask the seller again and he said "Yes" You see I asked him because it's not the same board that's in his picture. But just in-case.. I bought another board (They don't cost much now), so this board will be a spare one.. HEH (You never know, as it is a bit crusty)...

Wish you all the best!

Thanks , as for the build... I have the Memory cage standoff plate now ready to be epoxied to the inside of the case. I think that I will just screw it to the board first, and put a small piece of double side tape to it, so when I remove the board, it will stay in place inside the case (so I can mark all the round the plate). Then the case will be marked where the plate should be epoxied in...

Other than a hole-in-the head.. Also the Memory cage mounting plate too (Standoffs are through the plate not on top)..

Guys, I've just finished epoxying in the memory cage standoff plate, and I must say that it lines up with the holes in the Logic board (Phew). But Now I'm waiting for that board to arrive. Because I don't want to install the wiring loom till the board is fitted first....

Update guy's, I've installed another 3,1 board (Not crusty like the last one). But I had to JB-Weld in 4 extra standoffs, because I wanted all the screw holes in the board to be screwed down. The wiring harness is in place, as well as the front I/O board, and 2008 Speaker assembly too, so the hard part is now over, and I'm waiting on (2) 3.2GHz CPU's, 32GB ram, PCI-E X1 SSD Adapter card for MAC PRO..It Will take 2 mSATA on the card (mSATA in 2.5" adapter). However, I did receive the video card..Which is a Geforce GTX 680 (2GB ram), as you can see I'm going all the way with this build......

Very nice!

Very nice!

Thanks.... actually it's not as hard as I thought it would be.... Though, I must check the part number on that sensor (That's in the super drive bay) to see if it's the same as the 2008 one..If not then I'll replace it...

More work done on my Mac conversion to 3,1, and I'm near the finish line..Though I can't fit the front fan unit yet, because I'm fitting a Blue ray DVD drive, so I have to change one plug on the drives Power cable to a SATA one (I have to take the cable out to do that)..But the other molex one will go to the USB 3.0 card (that I'm waiting to arrive)....

Oh, One hole in the Memory cage didn't line up with one of the standoffs, so I had to mark, and drill another hole (so I could screw it in place).. Now the cage is screwed in place nice and tight..

Ok Guys a long waited update. My Mac Pro conversion to a 2008 is just about complete..To finish it off, I need the 256GB sSATA card, that 3.0 USB card, and the video card too. You see I plan on installing OS X macOS High Sierra (with the patch to install it) to the 256 SSD and Windows 7 to the 500GB SSD, and a 4TB SSHD I will fit too, as for that GTX 680 Video card. I sold it on eBay for the same amount of money that I payed for it, and I used that money towards a GTX 770, that has double the amount ram that's on the 680 (It has 4GB, the 680 only had 2GB)..

Oh, Please feel free to donate to me go fund page, as any amounts will be greatly appreciated, and all proceeds will go towards this build (HEH)....
