For my use case(working out at the gym) I NEED physical controls and some form of mounting and sweat proof feature.
The AirPods do not fulfill any of those requirements although from a general use case between Apple to apple device I imagine you can't get a better UX than the AirPods.
I'm far from against physical controls, I just don't particularly like ones you have to press so hard it forces the earbud further into your lughole, not very user friendly as far as I'm concerned. Though obviously not all of them are going to require excessive force.
Top and bottom buttons are fine, or a touchpad with multiple gestures maybe. But surface mounted buttons that require a bit of force are a no no for me.
Mind you, as I mentioned, I'm not a big fan of ear canal buds anyway, they never feel particularly comfortable to me and I hate the noise you get when you touch or move one (less of a consideration when there's no wires,) but mainly the comfort. I've got to wear them so loosely that they end up falling out Though of course that's a personal thing, millions of people are fine with them.
I'm just glad there's options, Apple's sit-in style (which is my preference for buds) was a relief when they announced them I'm glad they didn't change to a full on in-ear style or I'd have to stick with my over-ear cans and miss out on true wireless (or be uncomfortable I suppose
)
I'm not concerned about sweat after reading many reports and user opinions and there was a video apparently of them surviving a washing machine. Plus I've used EarPods many times when exercising and they've never given me any issues, so I don't expect AirPods to be too much different.
I'm still hoping Apple will add at the very least a triple tap (or otherwise) that will allow track skipping from the AirPods.
I can cope with taking one out to pause, usually I'd be removing at least one when I pause anyway. Volume I'm not too fussed about, I mostly set and forget and it's easy enough to use the Apple Watch for that if needs be.
Those two things don't require any touch control, whereas track skipping is impossible without either removing a glove (I'm in Scotland, half the bloody year needs gloves
and those awful touchscreen compatible ones provide no warmth) or of course using Siri which isn't always available or appropriate to use. So one physical method of skipping tracks and I'll be happy.

I'll pay for postage if you're really offering that deal.
Someone's got in before you I'm afraid, but if he decides he doesn't want them your next in the queue.
