Mines got it as well. Has had it for a long time, but I’ve ignited Red it. I also have a crack in the screen but it’s not close to the spot. Figured I would use my AppleCare free damage repair and cover both at some point. Maybe they will let me move up to an 11”

Hi, same here... I went though an apple store manager, they basically says they this is the first time for them to see this defect... can’t believe it as I see now post on apple France forum...
I asked for an upgrade for the 11 +money and they refused

If it's heat-related I wonder if the affected units had a case on during use. Mine's almost 1 yr old with daily use, but don't exhibit this problem. I use mine naked, iPad not me ;)
Hi, just matter of time before this happen I am afraid. If i wouldn’t have paid for the APC it would have been outside warranty period

Are you in France and have they agreed to replace it?

Just wanted to chime in here: I had the bright spot show up on my 10.5 pro a couple weeks ago so I made an appointment to go to the apple store and went today. Genius guy saw the spot instantly and remarked “we see this so much it’s crazy”. Must be a common issue. But he swapped it for another one on the spot and that’s what I’m typing from right now

Curious, where are you located?

If this bright spot issue is more common than we think and isn't limited to a certain batch of iPads, then Apple could issue a replacement program as they sometimes do with their products. Hopefully.

Tacoma Washington. Would be interesting to get a sample going on where everyone is from that has this issue

This is starting to show on mine as well. Not as bad as the one I saw on display at a retailer yesterday. Apple needs to address this issue ASAP.
Part, of the reason why we pay the premium is to ensure we get a RELIABLE product that will last when cared for. If they used faulty parts, probably swelling or hot batteries in this case, they need to address and fix.

Apple Care is great for those that misuse and/or overuse the product they are paying to protect. The average consumer that trust Apple’s RELIABILITY should not have to rely on added extended insurance to enjoy the iPad for many years. At this rate, when my iPad’s bright spot is to the point of being unusable, it would be right around the 2 year mark. Mine is a release iPad with 91% battery capacity.

Apple Marketing team, if you are reading this, please elevate to your leaders. A forum with 10 pages of anecdotal incidents should give you enough data to conduct research. This research will help you draw statistical data to support the difficiency.

Perhaps, but my wife's 10.5 is also in a case and, so far, is not showing this problem.

Used mine naked since launch and got this problem too 2-3 months ago, last week after following this thread i took my iPad to repair, They send it to Apple and today got a free new unit.

It’s interesting that the amount of people effected seems to increase. I’ve used my iPad extensively (at least 5-6 hours a day) and the issue already showed up more than half a year ago for me (launch iPad). So it might come with ongoing usage. I hope Apple acknowledges it soon.

There’s a story MacRumors :p

I bought mine last Dec and used it daily for 4-5 hours, but haven't developed this problem yet. Hopefully it stays that way.

Got mine in April 2018 and haven’t gotten the dot yet. I have AppleCare until 2020, so plenty of time.

Just got my replacement iPad, I can confirm this is a refurbished like « new » virtually new. I can also confirm that previously my iPad was a « M » serial and now a « N » which indicates refurbished. Anyway the screen is default free, but the Apple technician did confirm that he has seen on the forum happening and for him it is obviously a battery inflation causing to press on the back of lcd... so be prepared for your iPad to suffer from same issue. Could it be a bad batch of batteries never know.
To finish up , I saw 2 or their 5 ipp 10.5 in store with the same issue.

I just purchased my 10.5 about 3 months ago and it too has the same white spot as everyone describes. It’s pretty faint but now I can’t not see it. Does anyone know if this gets worse over time?

I really need to get around to exchanging mine, still in Apple Care till next June. Kept putting it off, 512gb, takes ages to fill it up. Plan was to do it after getting the new 11”, then sell it, but I’ve now decided to return the 11” for various reasons, and keep rocking the 10.5” for another year or so.

Bonus will be getting a fresh battery (presumably) in the replacement, it’s at 85% health now, 195 cycles.

If you look at the ifixit tear down of the 10.5, the battery goes down both sides and it is the main logic board that runs down the centre. I think it is something like the WiFi controller that sits around the area where this bright spot manifests itself.

Well the good news is that Apple still sells the 10.5" iPad Pro and they haven't discontinued it even though the new Pros released. Which means if this issue really is widespread and can affect all of the 10.5" iPads, then perhaps eventually everyone who owns the 10.5" iPad Pro will get it meaning that there will be more people to talk and complain about it in turn getting more attention and most likely in the end Apple rectifying the issue in some way.

I see only 10.5" owners mention the issue, is there anyone with the 2017 12.9" iPad Pro with the same issue?

Mine was bought on launch day and I have 3 spots now. They are super noticeable now. Apple should take accountability and replace these screens. The screen is the main part of an iPad.

Yep. Add me to the list as well. My iPad 10.5" has a bright spot about 2 inches above the home button. This is obviously a design issue and my local Apple Store confirmed that there was indeed an issue with the display after running diagnostics. They refused to replace the unit or repair the screen for free because I am past the 1 year warranty (they wanted to charge me $449 for a replacement device). I also spoke with a Senior Advisor via online chat and pretty much got the same thing. This is extremely frustrating as I take very good care of my devices and this one is completely on Apple. They need to do something about this so let's continue to raise a stink. This needs to be elevated to replacement program status.

Be sure to continue posting on this thread and give your feedback here https://www.apple.com/feedback/

MacRumors should post this as a story on their front page.

I didn't even know this was a thing! My husband and I both had our about a year and a half or so- he got his when they came out and me mine a few months later. They are both out of warranty now and both have these spots. I never noticed the spot until tonight as I am resetting both iPad to get ready to sell the, and its really obvious on the white hello screen. Damn. They won't do anything about it this long after purchase, right? I was hoping to sell them to make up for buying the new iPads. So I have to sell themas defective now??

There have been people on here that went to the apple store after warranty and apple replaced it no problem. I’d say give it a try!
