Apple will be well aware of this issue even if they don't publicly admit it. It is a valid concern that it could happen with the new iPads though given they are even thinner. This time around, I would take it to Apple at the faintest sign of it happening. On my 10.5, I think it was there since day 1 but very hard to see but slowly got worse to the point of distraction after a year.

Same here.... IPP pro bought in Japan, it gradually appeared i thing 2-3 months ago just after 1 year of ownership. Really pissed off and seems all 10.5 will be widely affected. Until then this issue becomes viral I see on redit and various forum that the resale value of 10.5 will be reduced
With thinner device for 11” I am tempted to wait... have appointment on Thursday with APC so I expect to get replacement.

Is this thread for real? I have the IPP 10.5 (256 GB, wifi+cell, space gray) purchased in August 2017 and so far I am not seeing anything wrong with my screen...

Could it be specific to some model?

Yep, for real. Mine has had it for a while now (10.5 LTE 512GB). Made a Genius Bar apt and 5 minutes later they brought out a replacement. Guess it is worth buying AppleCare!!!

Just had my launch day 10.5 replaced (yay AppleCare) at the Genius Bar in Buffalo, NY (Galleria Mall) for this issue. The tech there had never seen this - I pointed him to this thread, he whipped out an MBA, and was browsing the thread while filling out my work order. So hopefully other Geniuses at the Walden Galleria store will soon be enlightened...

But how can someone tell if his IPP 10.5 has this issue? All these photos but one show the white spot (I guess most can't show this clearly). There's an app for iOS called "RGB Test" *, however at 30% brightness and under lower light conditions (to avoid glare) I am not seeing anything.

From the posts I read in this thread this problem seems difficult to be detected right away (that's the first impression from what I read, I could be wrong, though). I am also puzzled how this kind of problem didn't appear since day one.

If it is happening on your iPad, assuming it’s in the same place about 2” - 2.5” directly above the home button, you should be able to clearly see it when you set the brightness to 100% and open an app like Notes. It has a overall slightly dimmed background, so the spot will look like a bright white spot about 1/8” - 1/4” (or a little smaller than a pencil eraser.

I also noticed it on some websites or the News app where the background is white, then has a bar of light color that scrolls through it. Basically is is slight. It looks like an extra bright spot that doesn’t move.

Sorry I didn’t take any screenshots. Mine was also from the initial release date in June 2017.

Maybe it was the initial first batch of units? Mine was from the first release day.

BTW the replacement screen is much better, brighter and better contrast! weird!

Add my wife and mine's to the list. My wife noticed it on hers a few weeks ago and I'm just noticing it on mine. Same exact spot. Hers is still under warranty but mine isn't. Let's see what happens when I take both in at the same time.

I believe even if your iPad isn’t under warranty, if you bring it in for a battery swap they will actually give you a refurbished iPad in return instead of opening up yours.

It’s a lot better than going in telling them you need a repair, and they will charge you for a replacement.

Very interesting, thanks!

Or use a credit card that gives you extended warranty for free ;)

If it's there I can't see it. Must be initial first batch of units, indeed.

Using: IPP 10.5, 256 GB wifi+cell, Space Gray.

Had this show up on my 64gb 10.5" iPad over the last couple of weeks. I'm 3 months or so out of warranty and am not sure what to do. This is obviously a manufacturing problem and I don't feel as if I should be on the hook to pay for something like this.

White spot here as well. Our local Apple store (Manchester, NH) offered to fix it for a discounted price of $500 (3 months out of warranty). No thank you.

No way, this seems a widespread issue with this iPad pro, no wonder that the new 2018 is even thinner and easy to bend.
Just came back from apple store, genius did spot the white spot and had to ask his manager to validate the repair.... my ipp was bought in Japan so they did refuse to swap with another unit and had to order the same model from japan,,, so i will receive a replacement from Japan.

I just noticed this spot on my 10.5 which is 4 months out of warranty. I took it to the Genius Bar and was offered a replacement at a cost of ~$500. Guess I'm stuck with it now.

Last week I brought my iPad Pro 10.5, which will be a year old in November, to the Apple Store in Frankfurt. My device is also a japan model. Without ce-sign and with camera sound.
Had a light white spot. Employees looked at it, carried out diagnostic tests and I immediately received a replacement model. Exchange model was now a Eu device with CE mark and without camera sound. I must have been lucky.

Some people have suggested that it may only have been the first lot of iPads that had this problem and perhaps Apple eventually fixed the fault during subsequent production.

Otherwise there should be many more thousands of reports about faulty iPads.

Are there any people who have had this issue with their new iPad Pro that was purchased 6 months after they were first released, say any new iPads bought after December 2017?

Bought me at day one, so like other it will just gradually happens...first served first to see the issue. Looks like a pressure point or heat..
I will not be surprised to see lot more people to complain, but is is really faint white color that most people won’t notice until they read this post.
Mine was bought in Japan

Bought mine in June 2017, and although I can't say for certain exactly when the problem appeared (since it seems to be a gradual thing), it was exchanged in February 2018. The replacement is showing the same issue now (started noticing it maybe a month or two ago). Now, what I DON'T know is whether the replacement was a later production than the first one, or if it had just been sitting in the warranty replacement stock since then.

However, my wife's 10.5, which I purchased in February (so, right around the same time as I received my replacement – the one that is now also showing the issue) does NOT currently have it (just checked). She uses it just as much (if not more) than I do mine. So that does lend a bit of evidence to the "Apple must have quietly fixed the issue" theory.

Thank you for the replies.

I have since done more research online and now believe Apple has NOT corrected this fault and is continuing to sell these iPads very likely knowing about this issue. This problem has now been reported on new iPads purchased as recently as July/August 2018.

I thought that after the introduction of the 11" iPad the 10.5" might be discontinued, but this faulty product is STILL being sold to many unsuspecting buyers who will lose out after their warranty has expired.

People often complain about Apple’s prices but we are told you must pay a high price for a "premium product". Fair enough, but this is not the quality you would expect from a "premium product". Nor is Apple’s disgusting lack of action in properly addressing the problem at the production level acceptable as people have been reporting this problem since at least July 2017.

I feel bad for the people who purchased this product in good faith and have been let down and am very grateful for forums such as this which have prevented me from wasting my money.

Have any of the major websites covered this issue?

I am planning to purchase Ipad pro 10.5 on black friday instead of the new 11 of I can find a good deal and I was wondering how widely spread this issue is.

If it's heat-related I wonder if the affected units had a case on during use. Mine's almost 1 yr old with daily use, but don't exhibit this problem. I use mine naked, iPad not me ;)
