I’ve just noticed my 10.5 also has a couple of white spots. They’re not too big and I can live with them for the moment. The iPad’s over a year old so it’s out of warranty. Does consumer law offer any mitigation? I’m UK based.
4 months! That seems really too soon. At least you have quite a bit of time left on your warranty. My 10.5 is 4 months old and it has the white spot too. It’s pretty faint right now and I could live with it I guess. However with AppleCare + I will likely switch it out at some point before the two years are up. I figure the longer I wait then perhaps they will have addressed the problem by then.
Who knows, just visit the store and ask for free exchange.I just noticed one white spot very small on my June 2017 iPad Pro 10.5inch 256gb/cellular. I guess now I am stuck with it since it is out of warranty. I hope Apple does something about this.
Would you mind sharing which Apple Store you got it replaced? So this post is more for those in Australia with a 10.5 inch iPad with the bright spot issue
Now that’s a theory I haven’t heard. The magnets. But then again it doesn’t seem to be happening in other iPads does it? Like the basic iPad 2018. That’s got magnets too so you’d think it would be repeatableI had this problem in the spring of last year, I bought the ipad pro 10.5 when it went on sale. The white dot was in the center of the screen and seeing different photos on the internet you can see that it does not always come from the same part of the screen. I think it may be due to the magnets on the covers.
I changed the iPad in March of the past for a completely new one and at the moment the white dot has not left, I use another sleeve.

An update:
We are out of warranty and in the US and managed to get AppleCare to set up up with two replacement iPads. We called AppleCare directly and told them the issue, directed them to the many instances of it around the web. We did have to speak with a manager first (the AppleCare specialist put him on un-requested) and he seemed really sympathetic to the issue.
We did go to an appointment at an Apple store first though, and had them verify and notated the the serial numbers and issues so that AppleCare could see it when the looked.

So you gave more money to the company that screwed you over. HmmI had no such luck with apple and out of warranty replacement so I decided I could not live with the issue and used that as an excuse to upgrade from the 10.5inch iPad Pro to the new 12.9 pro.
For both of mine (the one I originally purchased, and then the one Apple replaced it with under warranty), the problem surfaced after about 7-9 months.
My wife has had hers for about that same amount of time (and uses it heavily), and so far is not showing signs of white spot disease. I don't know if storage size could be a factor, but I should note that hers is a 64GB and mine is 256GB.
I’m one my second iPad Pro in two months and both had white spots within several weeks. Their should be a recall. I live 65 miles from nearest Apple Store and I’m very disappointed. I have glass cover and a leather clove. I loved my iPad 4 it took 5 yrs to get a white spot.Ok, a little bit of a rant here. Apple recently announced a repair program for the iPhone X to address a problem where the screen becomes unresponsive. Googling "iphone x unresponsive" yields a vague array of results, with a few of them consisting of users having this problem, but nothing that would indicate an epidemic. Yet it apparently has been deemed severe enough so as to warrant a special repair program.
On the other hand, Google "ipad pro 10.5 white spot" (or bright spot), and the results appear to point to a much more defined and widespread issue, with many posts here, on reddit, Apple's own forum, and other places describing this EXACT problem. How is it possibly not a "known issue"?
My theory... the iPhone X issue is fixable, the iPad Pro 10.5 issue is not. The iPhone X problem is described as being the result of a faulty part, which can be replaced. But the iPad Pro 10.5's white spot disease is presumably caused by a design flaw, a part under the screen that, after a period of time, interferes with the backlighting, with perhaps manufacturing variances explaining why some have this problem and others don't.
So, unless we can somehow exert more pressure on Apple by bringing more attention to this, I suspect they are going to just try to sweep it under the rug.

That was my thought as well..So you gave more money to the company that screwed you over. Hmm
I believe there have been posts in this thread about successful replacements using this law (defect was in product at time of purchase).I’ve just noticed my 10.5 also has a couple of white spots. That’s the thing - eBay. From what I’ve read it’s the sellers responsibility post 12 months. I guess I’ll just live with it.Yes. Where did you buy it?

I wonder how many people who have this white spot problem have used their iPad at a higher screen brightness?
I brought my out-of-warranty iPad Pro 10.5 in the Genius Bar last Friday. The Genius acknowledged the problem but said that there was nothing he could do to replace it without me paying ~$450. He suggested I call corporate since they have more wiggle room but I probably won't bother. I can live with the bright spots.
It showed up on mine back in September, one month after my warranty ended. Apple wouldn’t do anything for me. I’ve barely used it since because I can’t un-see it and it pisses me off.
