Looks like nothing happening in the UK till at least Friday? My Apple order is 28th March yet still no movement on it.

Meanwhile you can go into stores (Best Buy at least) and buy it in the US / their online orders are arriving

On the bright side, we'll have more time to enjoy our tablets before they are struck down with white spots or are otherwise afflicted with terminal bendies, or whatever happens to be the latest flavour of iPad disaster according to the denizens of this estimable forum.

BTW, dinna fash yersel. I am just kidding around. In fact, I am absolutely certain that our minis will be simply wonderful.

Speaking with John Lewis customer services online, apparently they’ll be available from the 5th April...

Wow. Really disappointed at how Apple have handled this outside of the US so far. Normally been really good - but this time around seems to be nothing but lack of information.

My Apple order still hasn’t done anything. Does the estimated date change eventually? I hardly see them still meeting 28th at this rate. Never had Apple under estimate delivery before.

But EU laws state a decide must be fit for purpose and last 5 years. Especially with a Mac. Apple’s warranty in a sense only adds accidental cover to that. Trouble is people don’t know their rights and buy these extended warranties. I’ve done so even!

Both stores are great though and will offer top service.

Common misconception, but it doesn't say that at all. EU is technically 2, UK is up to 6.

That doesn't say it has to last 6 years. It's protection from poor quality and inherent faults for a reasonable amount of time given the price, and other factors. It's purposefully vague.

That said, in this argument, and the way apple's customer service is heading downhill, I'd go for John Lewis. One of the few companies left with good customer service.

Oh dear .

Just been into the Lakesude Apple Store. They said Friday. I’m still planning to wait for John Lewis now in the hopes of getting the extended insurance. I also want the Pencil and the new Airpods too. Both of those are in stock, just waiting on the iPad now.

Good luck! I'm nearly as anxious as you about this now. I'm going to be really disappointed if you don't get your three years.

Are you like me hoping that they widen their 3 year deal to models other than the 64GB WiFi?

Though that said at this rate the 3 year deal will disappear even before said models are in stock.

An added bonus for me with John Lewis would be that I wouldn't have to travel nearly as far to collect it.

My case and screen protectors arrived today.

The 64GB does say 3 years but the 256GB says 2 years. Who knows!

If I remember correctly, you suggested the other day that you could live with 64 GB. But JL is all over the place at the moment with this. I wouldn't put much store in anything on the website as regards these devices. Well, as I've said before, we'll know soon enough.

Yes I know. It’s a mess right now.

Just hanging on until we know for sure. I already have a media devil mini 4 screen protector left over and spare cases for my mini 4. My first third party mini 5 case arrived yesterday, based on its fit with the 4 I think the cutouts for camera and volume buttons are wrong. It’s a Fintie :(

There's a fairly small but burgeoning selection of cases for the new mini at Amazon UK.

I just managed to get the new AirPods with charging case from John Lewis. I went with them as for £20 I get two years warranty including accidental damage. Coming Friday.

My badly fitting Fintie case came from Amazon. That’s going back tomorrow. I’ve got a cheap one from eBay that has larger cut outs than the Fintie so hopefully that will be fine.

I am going to try my luck this weekend at my local John Lewis store and hope for the best really.

Still torn between the 64gb and 256gb model.

Sure as hell don’t need that much space on an iPad if I’m mainly going to be using it for reading PDFs and streaming content.

I only need 256 GB because of the crazy number of ripped albums I have. Actually, if I played in lossless I'd need more. I have large Kindle and Audible libraries as well, but I invariably tend to download items as and when I need them. I only have a few movies as I much prefer watching on a big screen. Everything else takes up little space. If I streamed music instead I'd probably go with 64 GB although I'd feel more comfortable with 128 GB.

Totally agree with you on the 128gb option but clearly Apple cleverly dropped that in hope that people will go for the maximum storage.

It’s £150 more in any case, which will probably end up being a coin toss for me.

Just spoke to John Lewis Customer Services and I was told, not that I can believe it, that they received the iPads on the 22nd March but wouldn’t be selling them until the 19th April!!!!

I have emailed in the hope of getting some clarity.

I don't think anyone in the UK has got hold of one of the new iPads in any configuration, have they?

I am at a loss as to why John Lewis put on their site that they were available from Tuesday 26th, only for every model to then be labelled as out of stock and coming soon.

The reply to my email says “I’ve checked our internal system, and can see that a new stock order “was placed on Friday, 22 March 2019. This product can become available any time within 2 weeks of this date“

So who knows and still the warrenty period says 3 years for the 64 WiFi and 2 years for the rest.
