I ordered my iPhone direct from Apple with sim installed. So whatever sim they put in there wasn’t right. The Verizon guy said “oh another one” when he asked what phone I had. Must be common??? Lol.
Yeah I think apple put in the 4G sims maybe? Idk but the 5G sims are black at verizon so make sure your sim is black and not white

I don't know. I do know that the SIM card I got from Verizon is black. The one I had in there said 5G on it but it was white and a completely different pattern (on the gold contact side). I should have asked the Verizon guy for more info but ... he went off and got me a new SIM card and I was in a hurry so ... lol.

Working very well now - tonight when DND comes on and tomorrow morning - I'm assuming will be fine. Whatever SIM card Apple put in these phones from the factory definitely causes problems with some of us.

Thanks for your help on this. :)

quick update, after freedom mobile reset my settings on their end, phone started receiving calls again. However after few hours, back to not receiving calls. Starting to think it’s not the carrier, but a bug on the phone firmware...

makes me wonder how many people are having this issue but not realizing their incoming calls are going straight to voicemail.

Update:
Did some more testing, I’m receiving calls from other carriers and landlines, only impacting incoming calls originating from freedom mobile. Those calls go instantly to call failed on the caller end.. on support call now trying to get this resolved... so i guess the good news is that I’m getting some calls lol

Well, I can get calls last night when DND turned on and this morning - with the new sim chip. But I got calls yesterday no problem with the old sim chip. So maybe the weekend is the variable here?

The final test will be Monday night when DND turns on and Tuesday morning. Will report back.

Just get a new SIM card man I promise you that’ll fix things

Got my iphone 12 pro through Verizon last Friday. I have been having the same issue with calls going directly to voicemail intermittantly since then. I have been on the phone with Verizon 6 times and the issue has now been elevated to advanced technical support. At my wits end. At least texts and outgoing calls work.

Yep yep I did - yesterday. A black 5g Verizon sim. :D -- Very happy Verizon didn't charge me anything for it!

It does appear to have solved it.
Did you simply go to the Verizon store and they changed the sim card? Also, is everything still working fine now?

Like @atlchamp said - I just booked an appointment with a local Verizon Wireless store - said I wanted a new SIM card. Walked in, told them I was having problems with my phone and wanted a new sim. 3 mins later walked out with a new sim for my #. Make sure to tell them the # affected. The moment you walk out of the store your phone won't have service (unless they swap the sim for you there - but I wanted to do it at home).

Everything is working fine now. Haven't had to toggle Airplane mode to fix the voicemail issue since.

Personally I want to see this working Monday/Tuesday before I give it 100% clear, but it is working now.

Yep - I used the My Verizon app and searched: "Appointment" - made an appointment the same day with a local store. Walked in: "I've got an appointment at XX:XX - and I need a new SIM card"

They asked my phone (iPhone 12 Pro) -- that's when the guy said: "Ah one of those again" or something like that.

2 mins later he walked back with the SIM card - "It's for (###) ###-#### right?" Me: "Yep" -- then he gave me the card and walked away.

The instant I walked out of the store my cellphone dropped to no cellular reception. Drove home, used my SIM tool to swap the SIM card (careful popping it out of the large black 5G SIM card thing). Then bam - good to go. I swear my 5G reception is better too (but could just be me) LOL.

Last night - DND did not cause the VM problem - this morning - no VM problems. Will report tomorrow and Tuesday :)

How is it going today?

Glad it looks like you got it fixed. My issue was a weird one. It was because I had an app that was supposed to send spammers to voicemail. I screwed up by ending the subscription and just deleting the app. Apparently there were some steps you were supposed to follow. Because I didn't valid incoming calls were going to voicemail sometimes.

Happy to have found this thread because I’m in the same boat - wife has said she’s calling me and it’s going to voicemail. I’m not even seeing missed call(s).

Yep - Toggle airplane mode on/off - will temporarily fix it until the night time (or DND) - at least that's what it did for me.

New Verizon Sim Chip fixed it for me.

Yep, phone didn't even show missed calls - but did show the voicemails once one was left.

I just toggled airplane mode off/on, tested, and calls are coming through at the moment but I’m afraid for tomorrow.
Here’s the funny thing, I just signed up for service with Verizon (coming from AT&T) so I have a new SIM already. You think I should still get a new one again?

It's what I had to do. I had a brand new Verizon Sim from Apple (picked up in Apple Store) - didn't swap sims. The Sim in my 12 Pro from Apple was causing this. (It said Verizon).

When I went to the Verizon store - they gave me a new 5G sim (black) with no questions asked or $. Popped that in, and been good since.

Is the SIM you have a 5G specific SIM?
I believe it is. When I was at the Verizon store setting up service, the rep asked me what type of iPhone. I told her 12 Pro, then she got the SIM from a drawer and inserted it.
Is there any way to visually tell?

They look identical from the back - but the design of the sim chip on the front is different. Lemme see if I can get a pic. - Give me a few mins.

Both say 5G with the IMEI? on the front - identical. But on the back (sim side) they look different.

One from Apple on top (sends calls to voicemail) (Bad).

One on Bottom from Verizon (works fine) - I got Saturday (Good).

Bottom one came on a black card - <shrug> - I don't know much about SIM card tech. But it's workin fine now. Haven't had to toggle airplane mode for several days now.

Let me check....gotta find that SIM popper tool first.

Edit - Just looked and it’s gold on one side (as above in photo), white in color (not black), and has a large 5G on the other side.

Finally got all my issues resolved. Had following issues since upgrading to iPhone 12 pro

- call going straight to voicemail
- incoming freedom mobile calls would get call failed
- Wi-Fi calling not working
- volte not working

freedom network team essentially had to re-provision my account fully. Took them few tries to get it to work. But they literally had to recreate my account on their end. Finally all issues resolved. Keep in mind, only change was upgrading to iPhone 12 pro from 11 pro. Was not related to SIM card for me. My guess I was just the unlucky one, or freedom has compatibility issues with iPhone 12 pro.
