Both say 5G with the IMEI? on the front - identical. But on the back (sim side) they look different.

One from Apple on top (sends calls to voicemail) (Bad).

One on Bottom from Verizon (works fine) - I got Saturday) (Good).

Bottom one came on a black card - <shrug> - I don't know much about SIM card tech. But it's workin fine now. Haven't had to toggle airplane mode for several days now.
Thanks for posting the pic of the cards! This should help everyone figure out what the latest version SIM is for Verizon.

FWIW, my Verizon iPhone 12 Pro had the bottom SIM installed in the phone. The top SIM card in your pic looks like the previous generation SIM card and may explain why it didn't work properly. Looks like the factory inventory got mixed up and some people are getting the wrong SIM card installed in the device.

EDIT: I should add that I'm not experiencing any call or network issues on my device.

Is your SIM white in color or black? @BigMcGuire said his was black in color but mine is white in color with 5G on the side.

Edit: Looks like that airplane mode trick was only a temporary measure as my wife just called again again and it went to voicemail with no missed call showing.

Yep - airplane mode is only temporary fix. It will come back randomly.

The tiny tiny part of the sim chip that goes into the iPhone is white. The big card that it comes in (that you have to punch out the sim chip on) is black.

Okay, I’m relieved to hear that as mine is as you describe. At this point, not sure what my next course of action should be as I’m currently switching settings off/on and resetting them to no avail.

Same as BigMcGuire the actual chip is white and has 5G written on it.

Update....

Got on a chat with Verizon and the first agent asked me to perform some basic recommendations, e.g. turn off Do Not Disturb, turn off Call Forwarding, and restart the device. These didn’t work so they escalated the issue to a level 2 technician.
That individual told there were some updates they have to make in their system for the line. Then they came back on and said they turned off that feature that forwarded the calls to voicemail and had me restart.
After restarting, I tested and was getting calls coming through. I’ll see if this sticks tomorrow and report back.

I purchased my phone from Verizon but having the same issues. I am on my way to the VZW store to swap the SIM card for a new one. Hopefully this works.

Just as an update, I got a new SIM card from Verizon and activated it before putting it in my phone, but now my phone is saying it’s not activated on the network. What a royal pain in the ass.

Update: Verizon fixed the activation, so at least it works now. Let’s see if this fixes the larger issue!

Update: last night about an hour after the Verizon representative assisted me, the issue recurred where it was going to voicemails.

Today, so far, calls have been coming through - I can see and hear them, and noticing it's also missed as well. Appears to be intermittent but I'm keeping my fingers crossed it doesn't occur again.

While I’m appreciative that you all think this is an iphone 12 issue, my XR started doing this exact same thing about three weeks ago. I’ve done all of the things normally necessary to resolve the problem to no avail. I haven’t bothered contacting Apple since the level 1 and 2 employees don’t seem to ever care and I don’t have an hour to waste sitting on the phone with them. It never crossed my mind that this might be a Verizon problem. I will reach out to Verizon and hope to let you all know if the SIM card is the culprit.

My iPhone 12 Pro came with the new sim but I've been having this issue on and off for at least a month. Verizon as well.

New SIM card yesterday, worked until today when we're back to all calls to VM.

I am on VZW eSIM and having the same issues.

FWIW, I seem to be able to get the ability to receive calls to stick if I turn off 5G immediately after resetting network settings.

And, it seems like the call issue may be related to the text message issue discussed here. I am not receiving MMS ("green" group texts, mostly) when I can't receive calls, but if the calls are working I get all of my messages.

FYI verizon engineering got back to me this afternoon with a text saying all was correct with my cell phone service and that it was device related. I’m going to restore from an IPSW and set up as new to see if that helps. Will report back.

Please keep us updated on if that resolves the issue. I'll do that if I have to, but I was really hoping to avoid it.

Yeah I'm back to having calls go to VM. ...... sigh.
So long story short, I gave my phone to a family member, took out the sim and popped it into a new phone I got. And behold, the calls direct to voicemail problem came back.

I then used VerizonWireless.com to switch back to the old 5g sim that Verizon gave me with the first phone I got. We'll see if that solves the VM problem tomorrow! (amazingly how smooth and fast this went - no human interaction needed other than me and the website).
