Has anyone noticed when adding Credit Cards into Apple Pay that Chinese Transit passes are also populating? My region is Canada and I have no idea why I'd be seeing them.
Did it happen just now with the new 12?! Where do you see Chinese Transit passes, in settings?
Did you turn on Express Transit ?

I usually upgrade my phone every 2 years with Bell, my current phone is the XS Max, and the 2 year contract is over and I am planning to upgrade to the 12 pro max. Seems like Bell is not offering any major incentive/subsidy for hardware purchases? Just offering the option of monthly payments, but the cost of the phone is the same as buying it outright, just spread over 24 months.
So what is the point of signing another 24 months plan? Won't BYOB plan be the same.
I don't mind doing another 2 year contract, but don't see any incentive. However, I am not likely to switch away from Bell. I am on one of their Canada & US unlimited, and I don't see myself changing plans or carrier.

Yeah I saw that on my gf’s phone yesterday. Don’t know why 🤷🏼‍♂️

Once I popped in my Bell SIM, the issue went away. Not sure why setting up w/o a SIM would cause that. At least I know the CCP isn't tracking me :)

Correct - these days there are no real discounts for buying a phone through any of the big 3 carriers. They just offer financing, that they claim is 0% but they actually base it on a slightly higher price than Apple (C$1440 vs C$1399 at Apple). So if you can take the liquidity hit of dropping ~$1600 (after-tax), in my view it’s generally better to buy phone outright from Apple and have full flexibility with carriers being on a BYOD plan.

Got offered 20GB for 65$ or 30GB for 75$ on Fido BYOD in Quebec. (special offer that showed up in their app...) I took the 30GB plan as I need a lot of data at my cottage.

Those unlimited plans are a joke. The slow speed after your fast data runs out is 512kbps = 64 KB/s.

if you travel, it’s nice to pick up a local sim for cheaper rates. Or like me, I have my business line on my phone as well so I don’t have to carry 2 phones.
I'm a guy who likes to change devices every time that esim solution wouldn't be good for me... it makes me remember the times we had CDMA on Telus and Bell

The big thing that changed for us is we used to get subsidies in exchange for contracts. That used to really offset the high monthly bills (relative to the rest of the world) we'd have

Now there are barely subsidies and its really switched to a financing model. No surprise the carriers are making more money than before and record profits. People still want phones and now are paying more to get them with less cost to the carriers.

One could also leverage loyalty credits discounts and plans a lot better. This has also changed.

It sucks for us but now its about working around the way the current market is. I am interested to see what black friday brings. Last year may have been the last time we'd see phones subsidized significantly. EPP plans do seem to have slightly more discount versus the regular plans, but really we get the short end of the stick now.

Its amazing when I thought the iPhone X fully subsidized on contract for 600$ on a 60$ plan was a bad deal. Now you'd be lucky to get something like that on a $1300+ phone.

Now we might get 120$ off an inflated retail price, maybe a waived connection fee, and pay around the same for a phone plan in addition to financing the rest of the device over that contract o_O

Anyone order a 12 pro through Bell? Curious what others shipping times were like (I see 2 weeks on the website but am skeptical). Put my order through on Oct 21 so am coming up on 2 weeks.

I ordered through a small town co-op provider who operates on the Bell network. Might have got one of the last subsidized offers out there not on an EPP. Was EXTREMELY surprised to see they were still offering it on the 12 pro. Ended up going with a $40/month plan with 6gb data and unlimited calling, $900 device cost for the 128 gb pacific blue. Compared to my current plan, the savings from the monthly rate will offset the cost of the device quite a bit over two years!

Wow, that’s a fantastic price for the Pro. Normally it’s like $1400.
The plan is decent too.
Is this provider perhaps still offering deals?

You’d have to reach out directly, their website doesn’t have much info. Small operation out of the Listowel/Milverton area of SW Ontario: Mornington Communications.

Thats quite a good deal I would say esp with a 40$ plan.

My EPP discount is via Telus, and the current 120$ subsidy they offer on the 12 series includes both a markup retail price and an additional connection fee

So its really a whopping 40$ subsidy in the end! 😆

Hopefully black friday deals here will have something palatable, but I doubt this will be the case for the new phones, as the Pro Max and Mini will also be freshly out by then too, and despite my rep suggesting otherwise, I find it difficult to believe they will offer significant subsidies a few weeks later

I'm not sure how Bell EPP works, but with Telus EPP the best deals of the year are on black friday with the same deals repeated during boxing week, and that's typically it for the year. Best deals on 11 Pro and Pro max were black friday and boxing week last year. Even today, their iPhone 11 pro deals are worse than they were almost a year ago

edit - spoke too soon. Looks like Telus just removed the 11 Pro’s as well as XR from my portal (they were there this morning) but the regular 11 and SE 2020 get some big discounts

My employer EPPs through Bell and Rogers were really nothing to write home about (was looking at $100+/month for plan/device financing, so was glad I found this one!

Thanks. BTW, how did you find out about this company. Are you from the area? I assume they’re legit and reputable. 🙂

I ordered Oct. 18 and ETA is Nov 12-18. I checked the Apple website to see if they restocked and lo and behold! Most GTA apple stores have them available (12 pro gold 256gb). I really cant wait another 10 or so days so I decided to order one and picking it up tomorrow at Sherway. Finally 😭

I’m in one of their service areas for internet/tv and have internet through them. I kept getting fliers for their cellular options, so decided to look into it as well.

Interesting. I've already ordered my mini for delivery on the 13th now - and the website still says it's not ready just a few more minutes lol... Glad I had the app open on my phone too!

And it arrives on Friday the 13thm what could go wrong? LOL

Same, I wanted to order from epp website to save a few bucks on Apple care. Now I have to go into retail to pay for AppleCare.. if the website is up and available on same delivery I’ll reorder.

iPhone 12 pro max PB - delivery nov 13 - received confirmation email 8:03 pm.. for some reason my Apple Pay wasn’t working. Luckily I had primary payment saved and memorized my credit card 3 digit cvc number.. super stoked!!!

You have 60 days to buy AppleCare after your purchase. You buy it online or in person at the store
